Management and conservation of the blue swimming crabs by the marine protected area method require the abundance and environmental parameter information of the blue swimming crab. The aim of this study is to analyze the changes in the relative abundance of the blue swimming crab and its environmental parameters. The study was conducted from March to July 2015, in the waters of Salemo Island, Spermonde Archipelago. The specimens were collected at the three fishing locations around the mangrove, seagrass, and coral reef ecosystems. The variable of relative abundance of the blue swimming crab is determined catch per effort. Samples of environmental parameters such as temperature and current speed are measured in situ. However, for the salinity, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, nitrate, plankton, and chlorophyll-a were analyzed in the laboratory. A comparison of the blue swimming crab abundance in each ecosystem was conducted by One Way ANOVA. Moreover, the relationship between blue swimming crab abundance with environmental parameters was analyzed by multiple regression. The results show that the blue swimming crab is abundant in the seagrass and coral reefs. The environmental parameter that significantly influences the abundance of the blue swimming crab is salinity. The suitable area for blue swimming carb protection based on abundances are seagrass and coral reef ecosystems.

Reproductive biology is one of the biological aspects that needed to formulate responsible management of blue swimming crab (BSC). The crab is one of the commercial fisheries commodities in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Presently no information on the reproductive biology of this crab from Spermonde Archipelago, Sout Sulawesi. Therefore, the study aimed to analyze and compare gonad maturity stage(GMS)andgonadalsomaticindex(GSI)oftheBSCcaughtonthreeecosystemsnamelycoralreef,seagrass,andmangrovein Salemo Island, Spermonde Archipelago. GMS and GSI were analyzed descriptively for five months from March to July 2015. Results indicate there was a difference in GMS of the BSC caught in mangroves, seagrass, and coral reef. Generally, mangrove was dominated by immature BSC with GMS I and GMS II, while the BSC caught in the seagrass and coral reef BSC were dominantly mature and spawn GMS III, IV, and V. GSI BSC caught in mangrove ecosystem are smaller than GSI BSC caught in seagrass and coral reef ecosystems. Seagrass and coral reef ecosystems suitable for development no-take zone of the BSC.

A biodiversity assessment of hard corals in dive spots within Dampier Straits Marine Protected Area in Raja Ampat, West Papua, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 20: 1198-1207. Hard coral dominates coral reef ecosystems and has important functions and interactions in communities of marine biota. The structure and diversity of hard coral communities is very important to quantify, especially for the management of coral reef ecosystems. The purpose of this research is to identify the diversity of hard coral types, and quantify the condition of hard coral and their distributions in 10 marine stations in Dampier Straits Marine Protected Areas, Raja Ampat. The research method used was line intercept transects measured at two depths, 3 m and 6 m. The results showed there were 141 hard coral species included in 16 families. The percentage live cover of hard coral was in good conditions with an overall average coverage value of 64,24%. The biodiversity index (H) ranged from 0,84-1,23, the evenness index of species ranged from 0,73-0,94, and the species dominance index ranged from 0,05-0,25, indicating a high biodiversity and a lack of dominance by a single species. Although cover was slightly higher at 3m depth, diversity was slightly higher at 6m depth. In general, the 10 research stations in Dampier Straits has hard coral in good condition and the diversity of hard coral species is very productive and has stable growth compared with other sites in Indonesia.

<p class="Els-Abstract-text">Despite its status as District-Based Marine Protected Area, studies pertaining coral reef biodiversity never been conducted in Olele that located in the Gulf of Tomini, biodiversity hotspot in the Coral Triangle. Hence, we aims to investigate diversity, distribution and abundance of scleractinian coral, underpinning the health of reef ecosystems. This study was conducted using Line Intercept Transect on three research stations which were divided into three main zonations, reef flat (3 m depth), upper reef slope (10 m depth) and reef slope (18 m to 20 m depth). Fifty meters long transect were laid in each zonation, thus total transect were nine. The results showed that there were 35 species of scleractinian coral from 12 families. Each zonation has a different pattern of abundance and dominant life form. Based on coral health assessment using Coral Mortality Index (CMI) and the ratio between living and dead coral coverage, coral reef ecosystems in Olele were in healthy condition with the range value 0.29 ± 0.1 and 3.60 ± 1.14. This preliminary study should be used as a basic reference for database and novel direction of conservation management strategy in District-Based Marine Protected Area Olele.</p><p><strong>Keywords: </strong>district-based marine protected area; olele; lit; sclecartinia;life form; zonation.</p>

Data on the potential for coral reefs will support government programs related to conservation and rehabilitation of coastal and marine ecosystems as a focus area for maritime research. This study aims to determine the potential and percentage of coral reef cover, know the tourism suitability index and environmental carrying capacity, know the direction of coral reef ecosystem management. The research method is using UPT (Underwater Photo Transect), as well as measurement of environmental parameters on Larea-rea Island. Data analysis using CPCe 4.1 software, and Arcgis 10.8 (Kismanto et.al, 2018). Damage to coral reef ecosystems due to environmentally unfriendly fishing activities (Wardani, 2018). The number of lifeform types ranged from 8-12, while the number of fish species obtained was 37-44 species. The suitability class category based on the results of the analysis at the three stations obtained the appropriate category (S2), with a percentage of the IKW value of 50-67% (Yulianda, 2018). Then, area carrying capacity (DDK) in the diving tourism category is an average of 528 people / day from the three stations. Management and development of marine tourism can be done by determining the zone of utilization and rehabilitation of coral reef ecosystems, as well as limiting visitors for certain periods to reduce the potential impact of environmental degradation.

AbstractIncorporation of microbial community data into environmental monitoring programs could improve prediction and management of environmental pressures. Coral reefs have experienced dramatic declines due to cumulative impacts of local and global stressors. Here we assess the utility of free-living (i.e. seawater and sediment) and host-associated (i.e. corals, sponges and macroalgae) microbiomes for diagnosing environmental perturbation based on their habitat-specificity, environmental sensitivity and uniformity. We show that the seawater microbiome has the greatest diagnostic value, with environmental parameters explaining 56% of the observed compositional variation and temporal successions being dominated by uniform community assembly patterns. Host-associated microbiomes, in contrast, were five-times less affected by the environment and their community assembly patterns were generally less uniform. Further, seawater microbial community data provided an accurate prediction on the environmental state, highlighting the diagnostic value of microorganisms and illustrating how long-term coral reef monitoring initiatives could be enhanced by incorporating assessments of microbial communities in seawater.ImportanceThe recent success in disease diagnostics based on the human microbiome has highlighted the utility of this approach for model systems. However, despite improved prediction and management of environmental pressures from the inclusion of microbial community data in monitoring programs, this approach has not previously been applied to coral reef ecosystems. Coral reefs are facing unprecedented pressure on a local and global scale, and sensitive and rapid markers for ecosystem stress are urgently needed to underpin effective management and restoration strategies. In this study, we performed the first assessment of the diagnostic value of multiple free-living and host-associated reef microbiomes to infer the environmental state of coral reef ecosystems. Our results reveal that free-living microbial communities have a higher potential to infer environmental parameters than host-associated microbial communities due to their higher determinacy and environmental sensitivity. We therefore recommend timely integration of microbial sampling into current coral reef monitoring initiatives.

Seagrass is a marine plant that has roots with a rhizom system, the structure of the stem and leaves can be clearly distinguished. Halophila ovalis belongs to the Hydrocharitaceae family and common characteristics of this family include two branched leaves, oval leaf shape, small stalks and rhizomes that are easily broken and smooth, single-haired roots. This research was carried out in the coastal waters of Kahona Beach, South Lembeh Sub-district, Bitung City, and in Tasik Ria Beach, Tombariri Sub-district, Minahasa Regency. To date, there is no information regarding the comparison of morphometric of seagrass Halophila ovalis in both locations. The research objective was to compare the morphometric size of Halophila ovalis based on both research locations (Kahona Beach and Tasik Ria Beach). Data collection was conducted using survey method. As many as 30 plants in each study location were collected, washed with sea water and put into plastic samples which would then be measured using a digital caliper.In the results obtained, statistically, the Halophila ovalis species on Kahona Beach and Tasik Ria Beach are the same. There is no significant difference with regard to the size of the growth. This is due to the condition of the existing environmental parameters. Environmental parameter conditions in these two locations are still within the safe limits of seagrasses to grow optimally. From the measurement results, it can be seen that the size of seagrass growth in Tasik Ria Beach is smaller than that on Kahona Beach. This is due to the activities of people who come touring that accidentally damage seagrasses and damaged coral reef ecosystems are unable to withstand the strong currents and trash carried. Whereas in Kahona Beach, this is a marine protected area that is still rare for tourists to visit even though it has become an ecotourism area so that the conditions are still good and maintained, not only the seagrass ecosystem but also mangrove ecosystems and coral reefs.Keywords: Morfometrics, Halophila ovalis, Kahona Beach, Tasik Ria Beach ABSTRAK Lamun adalah tumbuhan air yang memiliki akar dengan sistem perakaran rhizoma, struktur batang dan daun yang dapat dibedakan dengan jelas. Halophila ovalis termasuk dalam famili Hydrocharitaceae. Ciri-ciri umum dari famili ini antara lain daun bercabang dua, bentuk daun oval, memiliki tangkai yang kecil dan rhizome yang mudah patah serta akar tunggal yang berambut halus. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di perairan Pantai Kahona Kecamatan Lembeh Selatan Kota Bitung dan di perairan Pantai Tasik Ria Kecamatan Tombariri Kabupaten Minahasa. Sampai saat ini, belum ada informasi mengenai perbandingan morfometrik lamun Halophila ovalis di kedua lokasi yang tersedia. Adapun yang menjadi tujuan penelitian yaitu membandingkan ukuran morfometrik Halophila ovalis berdasarkan lokasi penelititan (Pantai Kahona dan Pantai Tasik Ria). Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode survei jelajah, sebanyak 30 pada setiap lokasi penelitian, dicuci dengan air laut dan dimasukan kedalam plastik sampel yang kemudian akan diukur dengan menggunakan caliper digital. Pada hasil yang diperoleh, secara statistik spesies Halophila ovalis di Pantai Kahona dan di Pantai Tasik Ria adalah sama. Tidak ada perbedaan yang nyata berkaitan dengan ukuran pertumbuhan tersebut. Hal ini disebabkan oleh kondisi parameter lingkungan yang ada. Kondisi parameter lingkungan pada kedua lokasi ini masih dalam batas yang aman bagi lamun untuk bertumbuh kembang secara optimal. Dari hasil pengukuran terlihat bahwa ukuran pertumbuhan lamun yang ada di Pantai Tasik Ria lebih kecil dari pada yang ada di Pantai Kahona. Hal ini disebabkan aktivitas masyarakat yang datang berwisata yang tidak sengaja merusak lamun serta ekosistem terumbu karang yang sudah rusak tidak mampu menahan kuatnya arus dan sampah yang terbawa. Sedangkan di Pantai Kahona ini merupakan daerah perlindungan laut yang masih jarang wisatawan walaupun sudah menjadi daerah ekowisata sehingga kondisi di Pantai Kahona masih baik dan terjaga, bukan hanya ekosistem lamunnya tapi juga ekosistem mangrove dan terumbu karang.Kata Kunci : Morfometrik, Halophila ovalis, Pantai Kahona, Pantai Tasik Ria

The destructive fishing feared will give a negative impact on the survival of this organism. This study aims to analyze the density of bivalves, distribution patterns, and to analyze the relationship of bivalves with environmental parameters in Tanjung Pura village. This research was conducted in March 2019. The systematic random system method was used for collecting data of bivalves. The collecting Data retrieval divided into five research stasions. The results obtained 6 types of bivalves from 3 families and the total is 115 individuals. The highest bivalve density is 4.56 ind / m², and the lowest bivalves are located at station 2,1.56 ind / m²,  The pattern of bivalve distribution in the Coastal of Tanjung Pura Village is grouping. The results of principal component analysis (PCA) showed that Anadara granosa species was positively correlated with TSS r = 0.890, Dosinia contusa, Anomalocardia squamosa, Mererix meretrix, Placamen isabellina, and Tellinella spengleri were positively correlated with currents r = 0.933.

The last-stage larva of Bromeliagrion rehni Garrison in De Marmels & Garrison, 2005 is described and illustrated and bionomics and habitat information on this species are provided. The study was conducted in the Reserva Florestal Adolpho Ducke, located near Manaus, state of Amazonas, Brazil.Twelve samplings were done between April, 2003 and April, 2005: six in the rainy season and six in the dry season. In each sampling month, 12 bromeliads (Guzmania brasiliensis Ule, 1907, Bromeliaceae) were collected, six of which were terrestrial and six epiphytic, yielding144 samples. A total of 75 specimens of B. rehni were collected. The relationship between larval B. rehni abundance and the measured environmental parameters (volume (ml), pH, season and stratum) was significant (ANCOVA, F = 5.296, d.f. = 130, p < 0.001). Larvae were most abundant in the rainy season (p < 0.01) and water volume was positively related to the abundance of B. rehni. Larvae of B. rehni can be distinguished from those of B. fernandezianum (the only species in the genus with described larvae) by the number of setae in the prementum and by the color of the apical region of the femur. The association of this species with phytotelmata of G. brasiliensis is reported here for the first time.
