In the present study we developed a trophic model (ECOPATH with ECOSIM), to describe the structure and functioning of Bahía Magdalena estuarine ecosystem. The model, constituted by 24 functional groups, indicates that one third of the total ecosystem biomass is produced by secondary and tertiary trophic levels. The magnitude of total flows in the system and the transfer efficiency among trophic levels, are similar to those observed in other tropical systems around the world. A large proportion of the total flows are directed to the maintenance of the trophic web structure. The value of the connectance index (CI) was 0.2, meaning that there is only 20% of realized connections within the web. Benthic primary producers contribute with 53% of the total ascendency. We believe that the energy control in this particular ecosystem is top-down type (through the main predators), suggesting that high-trophic level species negatively affect other groups in the system. This trophic model can be used for exploring different hypothesis concerning the biotic and abiotic mechanisms that modify the structure and functioning of the Bahía Magdalena ecosystem, with the ultimate goal of understanding how this attributes determine the resilience of marine communities.

Semantic web is an extension of the World Wide Web (WWW) which makes the machine to understand the content of the web. The main idea behind the semantic web is to share the interlinked documents over Internet in a meaningful way. Web contents are created and designed to be read by humans that may not be understood by computer programs. Thus, they fail to communicate with each other. Semantic web brings the web structure to meaningful form of information. This article describes building blocks, several tools and techniques to implement a killer application on the semantic web.

In the present day scenario the World Wide Web (WWW) is an important and popular information search tool. It provides convenient access to almost all kinds of information – from education to entertainment. The main objective of the chapter is to retrieve information from websites and then use the information for website quality analysis. In this chapter information of the website is retrieved through web mining process. Web mining is the process is the integration of three knowledge domains: Web Content Mining, Web Structure Mining and Web Usage Mining. Web content mining is the process of extracting knowledge from the content of web documents. Web structure mining is the process of inferring knowledge from the World Wide Web organization and links between references and referents in the Web. The web content elements are used to derive functionality and usability of the website. The Web Component elements are used to find the performance of the website. The website structural elements are used to find the complexity and usability of the website. The quality assurance techniques for web applications generally focus on the prevention of web failure or the reduction of chances for such failures. The web failures are defined as the inability to obtain or deliver information such as documents or computational results requested by web users. A high quality website is one that provides relevant, useful content and a good user experience. Thus in this chapter, all areas of website are thoroughly studied for analysing the quality of website design.

Spiders are one of the groups that best adapted to terrestrial life among in invertebrates and are represented by approximately 48,000 species in the world. Although all spiders do not weave webs, the webs of spiders are literally a work of art. The main reason for spider web weaving is hunting. Some spider species live in the nature dependent on the own web, while others continue to live without being dependent on the own web. Although basic taxonomic features generally remain unchanged, some spider-silk weaving apparatus may undergo adaptive variations. In this study, the web structure of the weaving web spider, Argiope bruennichi (Scopoli, 1772) and the structural organization of the web weaving apparatus was observed by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The web structure of A. bruennichi, spinnerets especially posterior spinneret and arrangement of its spigots are shown and discussed in the light of the literature.

The objective of current manuscript is focus on processing of structured and unstructured data mining. With the tremendous growth in website, web portal to provide downloaded data to the user. The semantic web is about machine-understandable web pages to make the web more intelligent and able to provide useful services to the users. The data structure definition and recognition is to estimate the accurate page ranking and to produce better result while searching operation with web data.

A new species list of plants and lichens of Russia and neighboring countries has been developed for Turboveg for Windows, the program, intended for storage and management of phytosociological data (relevés), is widely used all around the world (Hennekens, Schaminée, 2001; Hennekens, 2015). The species list is built upon the database of the Russian website Plantarium (Plantarium…: [site]), which contains a species atlas and illustrated an online Handbook of plants and lichens. The nomenclature used on Plantarium was originally based on the following issues: vascular plants — S. K. Cherepanov (1995) with additions; mosses — «Flora of mosses of Russia» (Proect...: [site]); liverworts and hornworts — A. D. Potemkin and E. V. Sofronova (2009); lichens — «Spisok…» G. P. Urbanavichyus ed. (2010); other sources (Plantarium...: [site]). The new species list, currently the most comprehensive in Turboveg format for Russia, has 89 501 entries, including 4627 genus taxa compare to the old one with 32 020 entries (taxa) and only 253 synonyms. There are 84 805 species and subspecies taxa in the list, 37 760 (44.7 %) of which are accepted, while the others are synonyms. Their distribution by groups of organisms and divisions are shown in Table. A large number of synonyms in the new list and its adaptation to work with the Russian literature will greatly facilitate the entry of old relevé data. The ways of making new list, its structure as well as the possibilities of checking taxonomic lists on Internet resources are considered. Abstract This study shows that wet-pressing TMP and DIP with a shoe press pulse may yield similar afterpress solids, provided that an adequate shoe pulse length with similar pressure profile is applied. A wet web with more porous structure in the sheet dewatering (felt) layer seems to contribute to the increased dewatering during wet pressing. In addition, a shoe press pulse with high peak pressure at the end yields higher solids content after wet-pressing and higher bulk compared to a pulse with a peak pressure in the beginning. The increased dewatering during wet-pressing implies a reduction of steam consumption in the dryer.

This paper provides an overview of the various human factors and ergonomics (HF/E) resources on the World Wide Web (WWW). A list of the most popular and useful HF/E sites will be provided, along with several critical guidelines relevant to using the WWW. The reader will gain a clear understanding of how to find HF/E information on the Web and how to successfully use the Web towards various HF/E professional consulting activities. Finally, we consider the ergonomic implications of surfing the Web.


This research revealed the importance of public service web portals for an e-government information system. An e-government portal is interacting with its administrators, citizens, businesses and other governments helping them increase their operations performance. The authors have developed, modeled, formulated and compared an efficient assessment framework for e-government portals. In order to accomplish such task many quantitative factors and indicators were taken under consideration; also, other frameworks have been studied and compared. The authors focused on the web portals services quantity that the interested parties should use, in order to create an well designed public services’ web portal. This research provides a framework model to evaluate the basic common digital public services that a government offers to its interactive stakeholders, so that all other countries across the world can predefine weaknesses and strengths, improve existing or formulating new e-services. The importance of the assessment framework model is thoroughly explained through the results.

The study addresses the use of the Semantic Web and Linked Data principles proposed by the World Wide Web Consortium for the development of Web application for semantic management of scanned documents. The main goal is to record scanned documents describing them in a way the machine is able to understand and process them, filtering content and assisting us in searching for such documents when a decision-making process is in course. To this end, machine-understandable metadata, created through the use of reference Linked Data ontologies, are associated to documents, creating a knowledge base. To further enrich the process, (semi)automatic mashup of these metadata with data from the new Web of Linked Data is carried out, considerably increasing the scope of the knowledge base and enabling to extract new data related to the content of stored documents from the Web and combine them, without the user making any effort or perceiving the complexity of the whole process.
