“The Voice of the People,” “Democratization of the Media,” and “Radio on Demand,” are some of the titles podcasting has earned since emerging on the public technology scene in 2004. The original podcast movement started with Adam Curry, a former host on cable television’s MYV, and much of the movement was focused on music. Podcasts enabled people to be “instant disc jockeys” and create their own radio shows, albeit Web-based, RSS feed, and mobile.

Sensor network can be used in a numerous number of applications. However, implementing wireless sensor networks present new challenges compared with theoretical networks. In addition, implementing a sensor network might provide results different from that derived theoretically. Some routing protocols when implemented might fail to perform. In this paper, we implement three routing protocols, namely: Dynamic MANET on-demand, Collection Tree and Dissemination protocols. To compare the performance of these protocols, they are implemented using a Telosb sensor network. Several performance metrics are carried out to demonstrate the pros and cons of these protocols. A telemedicine application is tested in top of the implemented Telosb sensor network at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals Clinic in Saudi Arabia, utilizing Alive ECG sensors.

A web-based contingent behavior analysis was developed to quantify the effect of both negative and positive information treatments and post harvest processes on demand for oysters. Results from a panel model indicate that consumers of raw and cooked oysters behave differently after news of an oyster-related human mortality. While cooked oyster consumers take precautionary measures against risk, raw oyster consumers exhibit optimistic bias and increase their consumption level. Further, by varying the source of a counter-information treatment, we find that source credibility impacts behavior. Oyster consumers, and in particular, raw oyster consumers, are most responsive to information provided by a not-for-profit, nongovernmental organization. Finally, post harvest processing of oysters has no impact on demand.

The methods to execute biological experiments are evolving. Affordable fluid handling robots and on-demand biology enterprises are making automating entire experiments a reality. Automation offers the benefit of high-throughput experimentation, rapid prototyping and improved reproducibility of results. However, learning to automate and codify experiments is a difficult task as it requires programming expertise. Here, we present a web-based visual development environment called BioBlocks for describing experimental protocols in biology. It is based on Google's Blockly and Scratch, and requires little or no experience in computer programming to automate the execution of experiments. The experiments can be specified, saved, modified and shared between multiple users in an easy manner. BioBlocks is open-source and can be customized to execute protocols on local robotic platforms or remotely i.e. in the cloud. It aims to serve as a 'de facto' open standard for programming protocols in Biology.

This chapter is about the idea of medical information interchange networks providing signal and possibly image interpretation services. Technically, the issue is similar to Web-accessible services: document conversion, searching the Web, photo development, video on demand, electronic booking of hotels or airline ticketing. Various services use state-of-the-art Internet technology for commerce and entertainment purposes. Unfortunately, medical applications are rarely represented in that form.
