The course of college English plays an important role in overall improving students’ comprehensive quality. Under traditional teaching mode, English teaching is dominated by the teacher, and supplemented by students. Such the efficiency of teaching method is low so that students cannot give full play to their dominant role in learning. Besides, their learning ability cannot improve, and it is difficult to carry out teaching activities efficiently. On this basis, an inquiry teaching mode based on STEM educational concept was explored for the course of college English in this study by combining specific implementation requirements of inquiry learning method. Meanwhile, the teaching effects of experimental class and control class for which traditional teaching mode was applied were compared. The result shows that the inquiry teaching mode based on STEM educational concept has obvious advantages in college English teaching and can significantly improve students’ comprehensive ability and professional quality, so it deserves to be referenced for teaching mode reform.

To solve the problem of low utilization efficiency of English teaching resources and students' learning quality is not high. A complete English teaching system based on visual simulation technology was developed to solve the problems of English teaching and cross culture. Teachers' development of various types of teaching methods, to improve the students' scores has significant help. Visual simulation technology can change the traditional teaching mode, stimulate students' interest in learning and improve the quality of English teaching.

At present, many problems exist in college oral English teaching, such as single teaching mode, lack of innovation, interactive communication and classroom planning. Experiential interactive teaching can develop the subjectivity of students by adjusting the teacher-student relationship as well as student-student interaction formed by the interaction. Improving the teaching effect and enhancing students’ autonomous learning ability are a good way for college oral English teaching. Under this teaching mode, college English teachers can actively transform the process of students ‘passive acquisition of knowledge into the process of students’ autonomous learning through various experiential interactive teaching methods.

This paper demonstrates the implementation of flipped classroom in a private university and explicitly interprets the three major resisting forces that undermine the application of flipped classroom in college English teaching. Based on in-depth analysis of voices from different stakeholders, it is illustrated that administrators in the focal institution lack a clear mission of external adaptation and should be more aware of hearing different voices instead of forcing the policy. As for teachers, they are used to traditional teaching delivery and fear for technology challenge and the possibility of being substituted by technology, moreover, they do not have the initiative to make innovation in tech-based teaching approaches. In terms of students, due to their lack of independent learning ability and their dependence on teacher-centered classroom context, it is challenging to change their awareness and accept the flipped classroom. Based on the situation, it is suggested in the paper that stakeholders should adapt their mindset to the external changes, and leaders in the school need to model the way of the flipped classroom and inspire a shared vision so that it creates psychological safety for its members to try new things.

This paper explores the quality and effect of Situational English Teaching (SET). The subjects are a few non-English majors from five colleges in a Chinese province. Taking college English course for example, a questionnaire survey was carried out to investigate the application state of SET in college English teaching. The survey shows that most college students are poor in English, and the traditional teaching mode cannot effectively improve students’ English level. Hence, it is feasible to apply SET in college English class. Based on the survey results, a new English teaching mode was designed based on SET, and its application effect was investigated empirically. The empirical analysis shows that the SET-based new mode can boost students’ learning interest and comprehensive use of English, and significantly improve the quality of English teaching. The research results enrich the evidence of SET, and promote the application of SET in college English class.

At present, our society has gradually developed into an Internet-based society. Driven by the development of the Internet, many areas including education have begun to reform and innovate. Many colleges and universities in China have always adopted the traditional teaching methods, for instance, using a unidirectional teaching method or teaching in a fixed place. In the era of Internet, these methods fail to meet the needs of both parents and students. Subsequently, with the emergence of Internet Plus technology, the limitations that were originally found in the development of English teaching in colleges and universities can be overcome. By combining virtuality and reality, a new mode of simultaneous online and offline teaching has been realized, making English teaching no longer affected by the limitation of space.

Directed by the traditional teaching methods, China’s middle school English teaching pays much attention to passing down linguistic knowledge, ignoring students’ learning motivation, which leads to students’ inadequate ability of English application. 5P Teaching Method aims to improve students’ self-learning ability and their language application ability, which requires teachers to change their roles and strengthen the interaction with students. Meanwhile, it can provide an active and lively environment for English teaching. This paper analyzes the application of 5P Teaching Method in middle school English teaching in China and proves its necessity and validity.

College English translation is a specialty for students’ all-around development in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Traditional “Duck-stuffing” method is only effective to teach students to listen and write, and even results in students’ rejection to learning oral English. With the traditional teaching method, students and teacher seldom interact with each other, and students are passive to absorb the content of courses, and no positive feedback on teaching, which impacts the teaching efficiency to a certain extent. In view of this, an SPOC teaching mode based on “rain classroom” was designed by combining rain classroom that is based on WeChat and intelligent teaching tools of multimedia with SPOC blended teaching and partitioning the whole learning process into stage before class, stage during class and stage after class, applied in College English translation course, and checked for the teaching efficiency to verify the effectiveness of SPOC teaching mode. Results show that the SPOC teaching mode based on “rain classroom” put forward herein has some effect on teaching reform of college English translation course.

With the rapid development of information technology, flipped classroom as a new type of mixed teaching mode relying on computer technology has changed the traditional teaching mode and formed a teaching process of “learning first and teaching later,” and it has been used in many fields of teaching. Flipped classroom reverses the sequence of traditional teaching knowledge transfer and knowledge internalization and improves students’ autonomy. However, it is still in the exploratory stage of the specific impact of the flipped classroom teaching model on college students’ English autonomous learning ability. Therefore, this article proposes a novel college English flipped classroom teaching model based on big data and deep neural networks. The study has selected a total of 230 students in two classes of the second-year English major of a university as the research objects. Data are utilized to investigate the changes of the two groups of students’ English autonomous learning ability and English academic performance, to explore the specific changes of college students’ English autonomous learning ability and its influencing factors through interviews, and to predict and effectively analyze the weight of influencing factors through the deep neural network. This research enriches the theoretical research results of college students’ English autonomous learning ability under the flipped classroom teaching model, provides reference for the cultivation of college students’ English autonomous learning ability, and has certain reference significance for the optimization of the flipped classroom teaching model. The proposed research will support researchers and practitioners at college and university level.
