Abstract— The ubiquity of technology offers promising benefits of its integration in educational sector. Yet, little is known about the rationale underlying teachers’ decisions concerning their educational uses within the constraints of daily classroom practice. This study aims at exploring teach-rs’ consideration in choosing certain technology tools in the context of technology-integrated lesson design activities. Data were obtained through a focus group discussion during the lesson design which was followed by a semi structured interview. Findings for this study have enhanced the under-standing of some aspects that teachers put into consideration while designing technology-integrated lessons; identifying goals, analyzing learners, planning instructional activities, and choosing the technology tools. In addition, the findings of this study also postulate that during the lesson design activities, teachers need to be triggered by some cognitive prompts in order to sup-port them making some decision on the learning objectives, the stag-es of activities, and the technology tools they need to integrate.

Introduction: India has become the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) epicentre with the highest number of COVID-19 cases being reported each day. This has caused a major impact on healthcare workers including dentists across the country. Most dental clinics in Tamil Nadu were closed during the initial two months of draconian lockdown enforced by the Government of India (GOI). As partial lockdown measures were introduced over the subsequent months, dental clinics have started functioning and receiving patients for emergency dental treatment. Aim: This study was done among dentists practicing in Tamil Nadu amidst the COVID-19 pandemic to understand how the pandemic has impacted their professional and personal lives. Materials and Methods: A qualitative study using online focus group discussion was conducted among 32 dentists practicing in Tamil Nadu, India using a structured interview guide in the month of July 2020. After data collection, the focus group discussions were transcribed manually and an inductive thematic analysis was performed using Braun and Clarke’s six phases for thematic analysis. Results: Three major themes were identified after the thematic analysis namely limitations of off-campus distance learning, challenges faced in dental practice during the COVID-19 pandemic and social life impacts of COVID-19 among dentists. Conclusion: Dentists in this study felt that the COVID-19 pandemic was negatively impacting their dental practices owing to lack of clarity in COVID-19 protocols, lack of patient awareness, high cost of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), increasing overhead expenses, ergonomic difficulties in treating patients while wearing PPE, patients’ unwillingness to pay higher charges for treatment under COVID-19 protocols and fear of contracting COVID-19. Majority of participants in this study did not report any negative impacts of social isolation as many of them had stayed with their families during the lockdown.

Educational research literature has underscored the key role of collaboration and interaction among teachers. As such, the present study, as its main objective, sought whether knowledge sharing in a reflective focus group improved English as a foreign language(EFL) student teachers’ reflective practice. In addition, it explored the benefits and challenges to knowledge sharing in a reflective focus group. To this end, a survey of reflective practice, and a semi-structured interview were employed to investigate research questions. Eleven Iranian Master of Arts (MA) students who were, at the same time, EFL teachers in languages schools served as the participants of the study. The results indicated that the focus group platform could enable EFL teachers to improve their reflective practice through interaction with colleagues. Among other factors, receiving constructive feedback, and recognizing the possible relationship between theory and practice were the benefits of knowledge sharing through reflective practice. Regarding the barriers to using reflective focus group, various inhibitors were reported by the participants that can be classified into personal, institutional, and educational factors. The implications of the study are also presented.

The research employed several methods for getting data such as structured interview by using questionnaire, focus group discussion, in-depth interview, tracking, and observation. This study indicated that (I) Apprenticeship process mechanism is not fully transparent yet; (2) Their income are relatively high, however, looking at their job they are still absorbed in 3D jobs (dirty, dangerous, difficult); (3) Several arising problems set the volunteer in low bidding position, and (4) process of transferring knowledge they got from overseas is vague.

The trend of enrolment in private schools is growing rapidly. The criteria of quality for teacher candidates is complex one, great value is placed for oral interviews along with other formal techniques of selection process. The present study focused to investigate the desired and observed levels of qualities for teacher candidates perceived by their employers at private educational institutions in Pakistan. Interviews of personnel involved in selection process, a focus group discussion and a survey were used as the research method. After semi-structured interview with 20 employers the initial three levels of dimensions of qualities for teacher candidates i.e. dimensions of educational and professional knowledge; dimensions of teaching and professional skills; and dimensions of values and attitudes were developed and kept for  focus group discussion. In this way six qualities for each dimension were finalized and the survey was conducted to rate the desired and observed levels of 18 items. A total number of 139 responses were available through this survey. The mean of desired and observed responses for each item was calculated. The difference between means, standard deviations and t-values were also calculated. The differences in mean values for desired and observed levels for all three categories indicate that employers of private schools are not satisfied with the output of teachers training programs.

Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is a framework to develop the theory to practice in teaching with technology. Therefore, the teacher, as a practitioner of TPACK implementation, has a responsibility to implement the knowledge effectively. This study investigates the meta-cognitive awareness produced by teachers who participate in TPACK lesson design workshops. This process involves some reflection tools, focus group discussion, and reflective journal as a platform for doing the reflection. This study documented teachers’ stories during three interviews as they created their TPACK lesson design. The detailed data was from three Indonesian teachers. Those teachers participated in the process of research from the professional development workshop to the focus group interview. The data indicated the details of their experience in reflecting and determining on their professional knowledge. These findings show that during the reflection, the teachers start to realize each aspect of TPACK in three stages. These findings are useful for the government to establish professional development workshops in the technology education field. The researcher explored the implications of this analysis for teachers to effectively design the lesson and future researchers.

Crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility – law enforcement officers, community members, social groups, businesses and governments who all need to be sensitized about prevention strategies for ensuring community safety. Interpretive paradigm was used within a qualitative research approach. We adopted a descriptive research design. A semi-structured interview guide was used to collect data from all the participants that were purposively chosen. Six crime prevention officers, that were selected using snowball sampling, were individually interviewed. Data were further collected from twenty-eight members of community policing forums in three focus group discussions and six members of the inner council in the fourth focus group discussion. Qualitative thematic analysis was used. The findings revealed that some community policing forum members abused their skills and knowledge to commit crime than fight it. The findings demonstrated that community policing is effective in reducing crime. However, it transpired that the forums faced several challenges such as: lack of airtime to make calls, lack of incentives to motivate members, female members experiencing difficulty at night because they were afraid while others were not released by their partners to go to work. Although the community policing forums enhanced social change towards crime in various communities, there are negative implications for women serving as members of the forums.
