This case is about a family business, Taybeh Brewing Company (TBC), with strategic and succession planning issues including the need to prepare the second generation of decision makers to take over. It covers the centralization of control and issues that arise when it is time for a founder of a company to relinquish control or share in the decision making process. It also deals with the lack of interest by the second generation to continue what others initiated as a family legacy. The business has been approached to become listed on the stock exchange, but the owners have not made a decision. By reading about the small family business, students can learn about business structure that is proper for a company’s future, the pitfalls of founder’s syndrome, and succession planning, which according to Muna and Khoury (2012) becomes imperative for the first and second generations to take seriously.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose a quantitative methodology for the identification of the causal relationships between strategic objectives in a strategy map of a balanced scorecard. This is done to face the possible weaknesses described in the literature regarding the causal links and the difficulty in validating the relationships. Design/methodology/approach The proposed method combines the multi-criteria decision-making method called decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) and an optimization model. DEMATEL is used to establish the importance of the strategic relations between strategic objectives, and the optimization model is used to find the relations that are more “important” and should be included in the strategy map. The method was created by reviewing the existing literature, modeling the problem, and applying it in a company. Findings The most important results of applying this methodological design include that the proposed method maintains the BSC classical structure; it also enables the generation of several alternatives to support the decision-making process in terms of strategic objectives for a better organizational performance. Practical implications The method facilitates the decision-making process by presenting several alternatives of strategy maps according to different levels of organizational criteria. In fact, these alternatives help the organization in focusing on the most important aspects of the strategy map. Consequently, managers may identify where to pay more attention and resources in order to achieve the most important objectives of the company. Hence, this method, as a support for decision makers, enables (and requires) the active participation of senior managers and any kind of decision makers in creating and valuating objectives, relations, constraints, importance, and parameters of the optimization model. Originality/value DEMATEL has been used to design strategy maps. The contribution of the paper is the use of a linear programming model to select those relationships that should be included in the strategy map. It allows manager to focus on those strategic elements that are important from a strategic point of view. The application in a company showed that the contribution is not only theoretical but practical as well.

Abstrak Multifactor Evaluation Proses (MFEP) adalah  metode kuantitatif yang menggunakan Weighting System, dalam pengambilan keputusan multi faktor, pengambil keputusan secara subyektif dan intuitif menimbang berbagai faktor atau kriteria yang mempunyai pengaruh penting terhadap alternatif pilihannya [1]. Adira Finance Kota Lubuklinggau merupakan perusahaan yang melayani beragam pembiayaan seperti kendaraan bermotor baik baru ataupun bekas, Adira Finance Kota Lubuklinggau saat ini belum memiliki suatu aplikasi yang dapat mendukung dalam proses pengambilan keputusan untuk menentukan lokasi wilayah pemasaran. Proses penentuan wilayah pemasaran selama ini dilakukan dengan cara survey yang dilakukan oleh tim marketing dengan melihat satu kriteria yaitu wilayah blacklist ke wilayah-wilayah yang ingin dijadikan tempat pemasaran,  berdasarkan hasil survey kepala cabang akan memprediksi dari beberapa alternatif wilayah mana yang akan menjadi tempat pemasaran produk, dimana hasil perkiraan tersebut akan menjadi keputusan yang dilakukan oleh kepala cabang. Dari permasalahan yang ada di Adira Finance Kota Lubuklinggau, maka peneliti akan merancang sebuah Aplikasi dengan menerapkan Metode Multifactor Evaluatuion Process untuk dapat menentukan wilayah pemasaran produk dan aplikasi ini juga dapat melakukan perhitungan untuk menentukan wilayah pemasaran terbaik. Kata Kunci : Multifactor Evaluation Process, Pengambilan Keputusan, Wilayah Pemasaran Abstract Multifactor Evaluation Proses (MFEP) is a quantitative method that uses a Weighting System, in making multi-factor decisions, decision makers are subjectively and intuitively weighing various factors or criteria that have an important influence on alternative choices[1]. Adira Finance Lubuklinggau City  is a company that serves a variety of financing such as new or used motor vehicles, Adira Finance Lubuklinggau City currently does not have an application that can support the decision-making process to determine the location of the marketing area. The process of determining the marketing area so far is done by means of surveys conducted by the marketing team with looking at one criterion, namely the blacklist area to the areas that want to be the place of marketing, based on the results of the survey the head of the branch will predict which alternative regions will be the place for marketing the product,  where the results of these estimates will be a decision made by the head of the branch. From the problems that exist in Adira Finance Lubuklinggau City,  then the researcher will design an application by applying the Multifactor Evaluation Process Method to determine the product marketing area and this application can also do calculations to determine the best marketing area Keywords : Multifactor Evaluation Proces, Decision Making, Marketing Area

The decision-making process concerning succession issues for family businesses is crucial as it affects long term performance and sustainability. However, while succession issues in family business has been extensively studied, the decision-making process for women-owned family businesses is sparse, particularly in transition economies. This is despite the growth of women-owned businesses worldwide. This study explores the succession decision-making process in women-owned small family businesses in Kosovo using a qualitative approach. The findings suggest that group decision making is important in family businesses and plays a role in determining how gender influences succession planning. Managerial and policy implications are discussed.

Decision making is one element of economic value, especially in the era of globalization, and if it is not acceptable in the decision making process, we will be left behind. According to Robins, (2003: 173), Salusu, (2000: 47), and Razik and Swanson, (1995: 476) say that decision making can be interpreted as a process of choosing a number of alternatives, how to act in accordance with concepts, or rules in solving problems to achieve individual or group goals that have been formulated using a number of specific techniques, approaches and methods and achieve optimal levels of acceptance.Decision making in organizations whether a decision is made for a person or group, the nature of the decision is often determined by rules, policies, prescribed, instructions that have been derived or practices that apply. To understand decision making within the organization it is useful to view decision making as part of the overall administrative process. In general, individuals tend to use simple strategies, even if in any complex matter, to get the desired solution, because the solution is limited by imperfect information, time and costs, limited thinking and psychological stress experienced by decision makers.

Company financial statement can be used to monitor the performance of a company. Financial statements are also used as a means for decision making so that the company can anticipate future plans. The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR) and Return on Assets (ROA) on profit changes percentage of Banking Companies. The number of sample companies used in this study was 27 Banks listed in the Indonesia Stock Exchange with observation periods from 2007 to 2008. The method used in this study was multiple regression. The results of this study have indicated that CAR, LDR, and ROA gave significant effects on changes in Banks profit so that Banking Companies performances can be measured. Introduction. Appropriate decision-making is essential in emergency situations; however, little information is available on how emergency decision-makers decide on the emergency status of the patients shifted to the emergency department of the hospital. This study aimed at explaining the factors that influence the emergency specialists’ decision-making in case of emergency conditions in patients. Methods. This study was carried out with a qualitative content analysis approach. The participants were selected based on purposive sampling by the emergency specialists. The data were collected through semistructured interviews and were analyzed using the method proposed by Graneheim and Lundman. Results. The core theme of the study was “efforts to perceive the acute health threats of the patient.” This theme was derived from the main classes, including “the identification of the acute threats based on the patient’s condition” and “the identification of the acute threats based on peripheral conditions.” Conclusions. The conditions governing the decision-making process about patients in the emergency department differ from the conditions in other health-care departments at hospitals. Emergency specialists may have several approaches to decide about the patients’ emergency conditions. Therefore, notably, the emergency specialists’ working conditions and the others’ expectations from these specialists should be considered.

Abstract There is rarely an optimal solution in sustainable development but most frequently a need to build compromises between conflicting aspects such as economic, social and environmental ones and different expectations of stakeholders. Moreover, information is rarely available and precise. This paper will focus on how to use indicators to monitor sustainable development, integrating the information provided by many of them into a complex general sustainability index. Having this general indicator is essential for decision makers as it is very complicated to evaluate the performance of the organization based on multiple indicators. The objective of this paper is to find mathematical algorithms for simplifying the decision-making process by offering an instrument for the evaluation of the sustainability progress.

In decision-making process, decision-makers may make different decisions because of their different experiences and knowledge. The abnormal preference value given by the biased decision-maker (the value that is too large or too small in the original data) may affect the decision result. To make the decision fair and objective, this paper combines the advantages of the power average (PA) operator and the Bonferroni mean (BM) operator to define the generalized fuzzy soft power Bonferroni mean (GFSPBM) operator and the generalized fuzzy soft weighted power Bonferroni mean (GFSWPBM) operator. The new operator not only considers the overall balance between data and information but also considers the possible interrelationships between attributes. The excellent properties and special cases of these ensemble operators are studied. On this basis, the idea of the bidirectional projection method based on the GFSWPBM operator is introduced, and a multi-attribute decision-making method, with a correlation between attributes, is proposed. The decision method proposed in this paper is applied to a software selection problem and compared to the existing methods to verify the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate and explain how organizations in the construction sector can enhance their decision-making process (DMP) by practising knowledge management (KM) and business process management (BPM) activities. A conceptual framework is developed that recognises the elements that impact DMP in terms of KM and BPM. The development of this framework goes beyond current empirical work on KM in addition to BPM as it investigates a wider variety of variables that impact DMP. Design/methodology/approach A case study is undertaken in the context of the construction industry in Jordan. A theoretical framework is developed and assessment of the proposed framework was undertaken through a questionnaire survey of decision-makers in the construction sector and expert interviews. Findings The outcomes of this research provide several contributions to aid decision-makers in construction organizations. Growth in the usage of KM and BPM, in addition to the integration between them, can provide employees with task-related knowledge in the organization’s operative business processes, improve process performance, promote core competence and maximise and optimise business performance. Originality/value Through the production of a framework, this study provides a tool to enable improved decision-making. The framework generates a strong operational as well as theoretical approach to the organizational utilization of knowledge and business processes.
