Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are the key courses for the students in the 21st century. There are several teaching approaches to improve the average scores in STEM education. Involvement of robots in the teaching-learning process plays an important role to transform and enhance the learning process. The technological advancement helps the students to translate the typical mathematics and science concept into real-word applications. In this chapter, some concepts of STEM have been implemented with the help of Bioloid educational robots. The educational robotics enhance the academic achievement of the students. The programming of the BioLoid robots is carried out using RoboPlus software, and the outcomes of the concrete mathematics concepts are shown physically.

The technological advancement in the world has changed the people’s life. The people view point towards the usage of technologies in different fields like business, tourism, communication, education etc. has changed. Mobile learning can give flexible learning environment for the user. It can also increase the participant number in the online teaching learning process. This paper discusses about the effectiveness of the current technologies used in higher education system. It profiles the advantages of using mobile in accessing the university central system for teaching and learning. It also discusses about mobile digital book with augmentation, which can be used to improve the teaching and learning process of the different departments in the university

Interest is one of the most important components for a successful teaching/learning process; unfortunately, nowadays students’ interest in science and mathematics is decreasing. The aim of the research is to explore the cognitive interest of 15-year- old students in science and mathematics. Students in Latvia and Lithuania participated in the survey; the data show that students’ cognitive interest in this area in both countries is mediocre. The factor analysis was used to single out four main dimensions of the cognitive interest – interest in the context, interest in mathematics, inquiry interest and enthusiasm. Students’ interest is higher in issues connected with practical life, the solution of real problems, but much lower if the problem to be solved needs effort, if they have to use mathematical tools. Enthusiasm is not characteristic for students. Only few respondents are willing to engage in science and mathematics in their leisure time. Latvian and Lithuanian students show slight differences in their interests. There are more Lithuanian students, who like mathematics and who are not afraid of difficulties. Latvian students, in their turn, show greater enthusiasm. Keywords: cognitive interest, science and mathematics, teaching/learning process.

Nowdays the implementation of teaching strategies, incorporating the most well-known Information and Communication Technologies such as ICT in the teaching-learning process have increased in different areas of knowledge, and mathematics is not exception, it allows the strengthening of logical-mathematical thinking in students and it is essential to start from the first grade of the basic primary. Taking in account that ICTs are now part of the daily lives of most of students, it was concluded that by taking advantage of the interest that students have in ICTs today, no matter their age, this interest can be channeled to strengthen logical-mathematical thinking from an early age, as ICTs allow the teaching-learning process to be more enjoyable and participatory, also the process can continue, outside the classroom.

This work compares four of the most widely used teaching approaches in foreign language contexts; Grammar-Translation, Audiolingual, Communicative, and Natural Approaches. For the comparison, seven features were considered; supporting theories, creation purpose, materials and techniques used, and the roles of teachers, students, and students´ mother tongue in the teaching-learning process. A checklist was created to provide a visual representation of the characterization of the features compared in each approach. Several texts and articles were reviewed to be accurate in the characterization of the information. The results show that the characteristics of each approach were determined for the epoch in which they were proposed and promoted. Some characteristics such as the use of books overlapped all approaches compared in this work; others were unique to certain approaches, supporting theories, for instance; and, others were common in two or three approaches, as in the case of the use of conversations and the role of learners as active learners, to cite some examples.

The article is the product of the study “Development of innovative resources to improve logical-mathematical skills in primary school, through educational robotics”, developed during the 2019 school year in three public schools in the province of Chiriquí, Republic of Panama. The teaching-learning process in students is influenced by aspects inside and outside the classroom, since not all schools have the necessary resources to deliver content or teaching material. The general objective of the project is to design, develop and implement educational robotics to improve logical-mathematical skills aimed at preschool and first grade students in public schools, using programmable educational robots. For this, a set of resources and activities were developed to improve the logical-mathematical skills of the initial stages, in public schools, obtaining significant results. Playful activities favor the teaching-learning process. Considering the analysis of the results made on the data obtained through the applied collection instruments, it can be argued that in general terms the values indicate that the students obtained a favorable level of performance in the different challenges proposed. The project has allowed the academic community to have an application of great value that allows teaching about the conservation of natural sites. The project only covers the area of mathematics in preschool and first grade.

The interest in the future configuration, focusing on the innovative technologies and more specifically on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math), is remarkably increased. The value of STEAM education is undeniable as a means of developing basic skills and competencies of young students improving the learning process, developing communication skills, and solving real-life difficulties. The current research study was completed in the context of an actual learning process, with the view to study educational robotics in kindergarten students to engage them with STEAM education, using the programmable robot Bee-Bot® initially. The didactic intervention was held, which was developed in two phases. More specifically, a sample of 12 children (age range: 5–6 years old) took part in an intensive educational robotics lab for 16 sessions (4 weeks) by using a bee-shaped robot called Bee-Bot®. The results of our current research study revealed that STEAM education could also take place in a speech therapy clinic using the appropriate educational robots. Our young students developed and mastered knowledge in programming and computerizing, and algorithmic thinking with playful mod using educational robots, and they also built their vocabulary and develop communication skills.

STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education nowadays becomes more and more topical; however, students’ performance in these subjects is rather low and only a small part of them decide to study these sciences therefore it is important to rouse students’ interest in these subjects already at school. It is important to acquire not only the knowledge of the subject but also the transversal skills, thus, the organization of the teaching/learning process becomes more significant. Schools of Latvia start implementing the teaching/learning content and approach that correspond to the new standards of basic and general secondary education, which incorporates four innovative aspects in the science domain: the promotion of the content acquisition through teachers’ reciprocal collaboration; the use of ICT (Information Communication Technologies) as a platform for engineering technological solutions; learning through doing and engagement in discussions and other activities for making socially responsible decisions. The aim of the study is to find out students’ readiness to learn STEM in the context of innovative approaches of the national education reform. To reach the aim, the research question was set – to what extent and in which way are students ready to learn STEM? Using the QuestionPro e-platform, 257 students of Latvian general comprehensive schools were surveyed and the meta-analysis of factors of thematically respective selected questions was performed. The obtained empirical results were compared with the four aspects of the innovative approach pertaining to the education reform in the science domain. The study resulted in isolating main four factors: the course of the teaching/learning process, the feedback, the use of ICT and technologies little used in the acquisition STEM. The found factors comprised all the innovations of the science domain put forward by the national education reform, which means that students already at the pre-reform stage are ready to acquire STEM subjects in an innovative way.

The development and use of social networks in the teaching-learning process that students develop, makes it an important and almost essential tool in the educational process. This entails changes, of various absolutely inevitable characteristics when it comes to launching innovative proposals in the teaching of thermodynamics. Hence the training processes in universities demand new models of pedagogical strategy capable of responding to the needs of the new society. However, in practice, during the teaching process of thermodynamics, it has been detected that traditionalist teaching approaches are still assumed, which does not meet the expectations demanded by the new training models. The research carried out is aimed at studying the evaluation of the teaching-learning process in its formative and meaningful training, with the objective of promoting formative evaluation through the use of virtual training environments.
