Costs and Benefits of Logistics Pooling for Urban Freight Distribution

Collaborative transportation and logistics pooling are relatively new concepts in research, but are very popular in practice. In the last years, collaborative transportation seems a good city logistics alternative to classical urban consolidation centers, but it is still in a development stage. This chapter proposes a framework for urban logistics pooling ex-ante evaluation. This framework is developed with two purposes. The first is to generate comparable contrasted or progressive scenarios representing realistic situations; the second to simulate and assess them to make a “before-after” comparative analysis. In this framework, a demand generation model is combined with a route optimization algorithm to simulate the resulting routes of the proposed individual or collaborative distribution schemes assumed by each scenario. Then, several indicators are obtained. To illustrate that framework, several scenarios for the urban area of Lyon (France) are simulated and discussed to illustrate the proposed framework possible applications.

Big text data show trends from past logistics research and define freight flow and socio-economic relationships in the global logistics network. This relationship plays an important role in predicting future logistics trends and determining the direction of research. The purpose of this study was to collect logistics and freight related papers published in Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, since 1996 and to derive the main topics of the logistics studies that have been performed via topic modeling, using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) approach. From the results, 20 main topics with keywords and phrases were extracted from the logistics research papers, which suggests that topics such as trip generation model, urban freight, and logistics hub have been emerging for scholars in the fields of road, air, and shipping logistics and have been examined for some time. In addition, big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and information and communications technology have recently been applied to the logistics field. Research on data collection technology and route optimization algorithms that incorporate the technologies have, therefore, attracted a great deal of interest from current researchers. Through the framework of this study, it is expected that future trends in the field of logistics will be predicted, and that appropriate planning and strategies can be established.

Bipolarity plays a key role in different domains such as technology, social networking and biological sciences for illustrating real-world phenomenon using bipolar fuzzy models. In this article, novel concepts of bipolar fuzzy competition hypergraphs are introduced and discuss the application of the proposed model. The main contribution is to illustrate different methods for the construction of bipolar fuzzy competition hypergraphs and their variants. Authors study various new concepts including bipolar fuzzy row hypergraphs, bipolar fuzzy column hypergraphs, bipolar fuzzy k-competition hypergraphs, bipolar fuzzy neighborhood hypergraphs and strong hyperedges. Besides, we develop some relations between bipolar fuzzy k-competition hypergraphs and bipolar fuzzy neighborhood hypergraphs. Moreover, authors design an algorithm to compute the strength of competition among companies in business market. A comparative analysis of the proposed model is discuss with the existing models such bipolar fuzzy competition graphs and fuzzy competition hypergraphs.

This article examines the impact of Chinese traditional painting upon the formation of Western expressionism, as well as interprets the influence of Western expressionism upon Chinese painting in expressionist manner of different periods. The author reveals the mutual influence, similarities and differences between Western expressionism and Chinese painting in expressionist manner, Chinese imagery oil painting, Chinese colored ink painting, and Chinese imagery painting in Western style. Based on correlation between the spiritual ideology of painting and artistic form, the author carries out a comparative analysis of spiritual and formal factors of Chinese and Western painting systems for the purpose of determination of their mutual influence, and how it affects the emergence of new concepts in painting. The structure of brush stroke of the artist defines his aesthetic spirit. The article determines the “cyclic” nature of interinfluence processes between Chinese and Western painting systems that stimulate the development of human civilization. The analysis of corresponding cultural factors allows assessing the individual artistic characteristics of painting. Both, Chinese and Western painting systems entered the period when spiritual ideology of painting interacts with the artistic forms, opening the era of “globalization” of the language of painting.

The purpose of this article is to explore the various discussion of social entrepreneurship. Social entrepreneurship provides a unique opportunity and assumptions to question, challenge and rethink from different perspective of management and business research. This article offers a comparative analysis of commercial entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship using a prevailing analytical model from commercial entrepreneurship. The analysis highlights key differences and similarities between commercial entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship. This article also presents a framework on how to approach the social entrepreneurial process more effectively and systematically. Social entrepreneurship is a process of creating value by combining resources in new concepts. These process are intended primarily to get the opportunities to create social value by stimulating social change or achieve social needs. When viewed as a process, social entrepreneurship involves the offering of products and services but can also refer to the creation of new organizations. This article focuses and analyses the literature finding of social entrepreneurship.

In multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) with interval-valued belief distributions (IVBDs), individual IVBDs on multiple criteria are combined explicitly or implicitly to generate the expected utilities of alternatives, which can be used to make decisions with the aid of decision rules. To analyze an MCDM problem with a large number of criteria and grades used to profile IVBDs, effective algorithms are required to find the solutions to the optimization models within a large feasible region. An important issue is to identify an algorithm suitable for finding accurate solutions within a limited or acceptable time. To address this issue, four representative evolutionary algorithms, including genetic algorithm, differential evolution algorithm, particle swarm optimization algorithm, and gravitational search algorithm, are selected to combine individual IVBDs of alternatives and generate the minimum and maximum expected utilities of alternatives. By performing experiments with different numbers of criteria and grades, a comparative analysis of the four algorithms is provided with the aid of two indicators: accuracy and efficiency. Experimental results indicate that particle swarm optimization algorithm is the best among the four algorithms for combining individual IVBDs and generating the minimum and maximum expected utilities of alternatives.
