Lines of Advance in Global Information Technology Management

During the last decades, numerous theoretical frameworks have been developed in the field of general management. Each theoretical framework has proved useful to explain specific questions about the structure, processes, or performance of the modern firm. In this study we try to propose some connections between general management literature and IT literature. Some of the most important management theories, such as the Transaction Costs Economics, the Agency Theory, the Resource-Based View, and the Knowledge- Based View can be useful to explain specific IT issues. The final goal of this chapter is to propose several lines of advance in global IT using different theories or frameworks as the basis for future research.

The study mainly aims at investigating the impact that happens to the organizational performance as an impact of utilizing both information technology management and training. In-depth investigation of literature indicates the necessity of the proposal of the current research. The current study has utilized various theories including Knowledge Based View (KBV) and Resource Based View of the firm (RBV) so as to achieve the main purpose of the research. It also aimed at examining the impact of IT management and training on the performance of the organization. The study used a questionnaire as a tool. The researcher distributed a number of 341 questionnaires randomly on some department of the police in Sharjah. When the questionnaires were filled, the researcher used SPSS system in order to accurately analyze the results. The study concluded that the organizational performance of the Sharjah police has been positively affected by using information technology management. In addition, the research shows that it is essential to utilize on information technology management, training and strategy management on order to affect the performance of the organization successfully.

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of Training and Information Technology (IT) Management on Organizational Performance. Based on a theoretical foundation and a wide review of the literature, the model of the research was proposed.  To achieve the research purpose, this study has integrated different theories such as Resource Based View of the Firm (RBV), Knowledge Based View (KBV) in order to analyze the effect of Training and IT Management on Organizational Performance. 341 Questionnaires were distributed among random selected sample of Sharjah Police departments in Sharjah city in Emirates. 245 questionnaires were returned and used in the analysis using the SPSS system. The results of this study demonstrate that including Information Technology (IT) Management has positive and significant effect on Organizational Performance in Sharjah Police. This study reflects the importance of the right implementation to the Training and IT Management to have successful performance. This study also supported the premises of the resource-based view theory by reaffirming the importance of the including Training and IT Management to enhance organizational performance.

This paper identifies and analyses six relevant approaches for the analysis of Sustainable Human Resource Management and Organizational Performance: Resource-Based View, Dynamic Capabilities View, Knowledge-Based View, Behavioral Theory, Human Relations Theory, and Cooperative Systems and Ambidextrous Organizations. They are complementarity approaches. They can all be applied to the analysis of a specific resource or capability for sustainable human resource management (HRM) and, consequently, organisational performance. However, the contributions made by the Resource-Based View and the new approach of Ambidextrous Organizations seem to be the most comprehensive approaches for studying sustainable HRM from an internal perspective of firms that allows the long-term development of their organizational and society performance.

This bibliometric study investigates Marketing and Strategy association in twenty relevant academic journals, divided equally between both fields. The methods used to identify the most influential studies; the most common conceptual approach and how researches from both areas evolved in the first fourteen years of the 21st century were citation and cocitation network analysis, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and metric multidimensional scaling (MDS). Sample size was comprised of 5,270 articles, embodying over 130,000 citations, which had a relevant conceptual influence on the Resource Based View (RBV), Knowledge Based View (KBV), Transaction Cost Theory (TCT) and competitive strategy of the Industrial Organization (IO). Uppermost cited references were clustered in three factors, representing the theoretical approach used when both disciplines are compiled. The results showed: a) meaningful increase on the number of papers encompassing both areas in Marketing journals; b) RBV, TCT and IO as the most used Strategic themes to connect with Marketing and c) the overall most cited studies in the period of analysis. Guidelines for future research are provided for further investigation on the combination of Marketing and Strategy, identifying possible gaps to be covered.

Purpose – To identify the theoretical frameworks and the mains topics that support the concept of digital capabilities.Theoretical framework – This study is the result of a bibliometric analysis. The main research topics that structure this research are: Digital Transformation and Digital Capabilities.Design/methodology/approach – The scientometry design has been utilised through VOSviewer software, resulting in a bibliometric analysis of 741 papers from journals in the area of business, economics and social sciences. Papers were collected in the Scopus database.Findings – The results reveal that the main theoretical frameworks are connected with the resource-based view, dynamic capabilities and strategy in digital transformation. The topics that support the concepts of digital capabilities are: digital transformation, industry 4.0, innovation, electronic commerce and innovation in business models.Research, Practical Social implications – The implications are the indication of theories, concepts and recommendations for the advancement of research on digital capabilities from other existing works. Such recommendations address research gaps identified through systematic and objective analysis. The results make it possible to propose future research perspectives. Empirically, this study helps managers to find the main research topics in the field of research regarding digital capabilities. Moreover, it allows them to understand how the use of these strategies concerning digital transformation can generate sustainable competitive advantage.Originality/value – This study contributes with the indication of theories, concepts and recommendations for the advancement of research regarding digital capabilities. The consolidation of the topic that is still expanding contributes to the advancement of the theory.

There are theories that explain both agency theory (Jensen & Meckling, 1976) and transaction cost economics (Williamson, 1985). It is assumed that networked organizations design their organization and network of trading partners such that the sum of internal and external coordination costs is minimized. The impact of information technology (IT) has been assessed in different ways. Malone, Yates, and Benjamin (1987) expected that IT will lower transaction costs and lead to increased market coordination. Clemons, Reddi, and Row (1993, p. 9) posited that organizations will “move to the middle”, that is, to “more outsourcing, but from a reduced set of stable partnerships” if non-contractible issues such as quality and trust play an important role. Empirical evidence (Holland & Lockett, 1997) shows that companies often mix aspects from both markets and hierarchies.

Recently, a great number of theoretical frameworks have been proposed to develop the linkages between knowledge management (KM) and organizational strategy. While there has been much theorizing and case study in the area, validated research models integrating KM strategy and information technology (IT) strategy for empirical testing of these theories have been scarce. It is thought that the rapid progress of IT has been provided a good solution to support KM practices. Choosing the proper ITs to fit with different KM strategies is critical for organizations. Effective KM activities require employing KM strategies, as well as IT, appropriately. That is, as long as the KM strategy has been determined within an organization, the IT strategy must be followed. In this present research, we try to develop and examine a research model for explaining the relationships between KM strategy, IT strategy, and their effects on performance. Empirical data for hypotheses testing are collected from top-ranked companies in Taiwan; yielding 161 valid samples. The findings showed that KM strategy has a positive direct effect upon IT strategy; KM strategy and IT strategy have significant positive effects upon KM performance and IT performance respectively, and then collectively, have the impact upon business performance. Finally, from the empirical data analysis, meaningful findings and conclusions are derived, and suggestions for future research are proposed and discussed.

The main aim of this study was to conduct a meticulous analysis of which words or terms are <br />used in the variables that best represent the concepts of SCM practices. The research conducted can be classified as being of a descriptive, exploratory and qualitative character. The search of the articles was made in <br />the Scopus and Web of Science. The final sample was composed of 51 articles, drawn from 18 periodicals. For <br />analysis, the definition of a construct was taken as the base, its relation with manifested variables and words or <br />terms most used and coherent with the definition of the concepts and the contexts in which these terms were <br />applied. A total of 639 variables that defined constructs, were transcribed. Similarity is noted in the employment of their variables and common use of words in the definition of the concepts. However, the constructs <br />possess different nomenclatures. Therefore, confusion is present in the studies analyzed. The study sought to <br />contribute to greater discernment of the concepts, making a critical reflective understanding of the practices <br />in the area. It was raised in the subsections of the discussions that the authors used the same terms in different <br />contexts. It was pointed out the future prospects for formation of the concepts, showing how such constructs <br />are being modified and perfected by means of the introduction of theories, such as the theory of Transaction <br />Cost Economics, the Resource-Based View, Agency Theory, and Knowledge-Based Theory
