The changing business environment and increasing technology is redefining the role of the human resources function. Nowadays, corporations have to consistently advance the value of human assets in their own organizations for maintaining their competitiveness. One of the technological changes in this regard is the appearance of Human Resources Information systems (HRIS). How to improve the efficiency of the HR and enhance its status in the organizations has become the top agenda to enterprises. The development of Information Technology (IT) transforms the role of the HR Dept in the organization. It enables HR to be a real strategic partner of corporations through the process of Organization Development. Thus, one of the challenges that face managers nowadays in regard to these emerging technologies, is the need to determine the success factors that play an important role in the implementation of an HRIS and how these factors, that some are Technological, Individual, and Organizational, affect the perceived performance of a HRIS and to measure the impact of this perceived performance on the perceived performance of the HRM.

In Pakistan, there is a growing appreciation of the fact that the country's economi~ and social development is greatly dependent upon its ability to effectively develop and utilize its human resources. Moreover, it is increasingly realized, that, to effectively influence developments in this sector, it is essential to base the formulation and implementation of plans and policies on comprehensive (i.e. relevant, reliable, systematized and up-to-date) infonnation on key aspects of human resources. Unfortunately, such comprehensive information is not available to its users. As a result, it is almost impossible to obtain a realistic appraisal of the country's major labour market or, more generally, human resources problems, options and priorities. Besides being of limited use to formulate realistic plans and policies, the task of monitoring and evaluating the impact of policy implementation almost becomes unmanageable.

Women’s entrepreneurship in Pakistan has been booming in recent years, and it has made a significant impact on social and economic expansion. However, it is notable that these businesses are smaller in size and considered less profitable when compared with men’s entrepreneurial efforts. This dilemma encourages the investigation of the success factors that contribute to the performance of women-owned businesses (WOBs) within this understudied region. Factors that may determine the success of WOB in Pakistan are divided into four broad headings: the entrepreneur’s characteristics, internal business environment, external business environments, and supportive factors. This study also explores the direct and moderating role of perceived national culture within the framework. The results demonstrate that the entrepreneur’s characteristics, external business environments, and supportive factors are positively related to the performance of WOB, while the internal business environment is of little significance. Furthermore, while perceived national culture does not influence the performance of WOB, it weakens the relationship between the entrepreneur’s characteristics and performance but strengthens the impact of supportive factors on the performance of the WOB. This study leads to a solid awareness about the critical success factors, the perceived national culture, and their association with the performances of WOB within Pakistan.

The purpose of this article is twofold: (1) to examine university stakeholders’ perception of the importance and benefits of, and barriers to, transmitting information on human resources collected in human resource information systems in universities; and (2) to understand stakeholders’ perceptions of the impact of the effective implementation of human resource information systems on university efficiency. To this end, a questionnaire was developed and sent to all members of the social councils of Spanish public universities. Descriptive statistics, analysis of variance and linear regression analysis were used to answer the research questions. Our main findings revealed a strong emphasis on the need for universities to transmit information about their human resources from the implementation of human resource information systems. Specifically, university stakeholders perceive as very relevant the provision of information about the academic and professional qualifications of the teaching and research staff, the mobility of teachers and researchers, scientific productivity, and teaching capacities and competences. Likewise, findings suggest that increased transparency, quick responses and easy access to information were the main benefits of the implementation of human resource information systems, while the lack of commitment from top management and insufficient financial support were perceived as the greatest barriers to human resource information systems in selected universities. Finally, the results confirm that a well-implemented human resource information system has the potential to enhance human capital efficiency in universities. The findings provide some insights into the performance and applications of human resource information systems in Spanish universities that could help human resource management practitioners to get a better understanding of the current uses, benefits and problems of human resource information systems, which, in turn, will improve their effectiveness in Spanish universities. Points for practitioners A well-implemented human resources information system has the potential to improve the efficiency of human capital management. This study contributes to practical knowledge by helping professionals in charge of human resources management to better understand the benefits of and barriers to implementing human resource information systems in universities, enabling the better future management of human resources in them. Likewise, this article provides managers with a greater understanding of the effects of human resource information systems on efficiency and shows that they represent a key factor in improving university performance.
