Various advantages of Multi User Virtual Environment (MUVE) have been identified in literature. However, MUVEs have not been widely adopted in educational settings due to technical and pedagogical challenges. This chapter discusses a qualitative case study that examines how Second Life, as a MUVE, was diffused on a university campus. Both instructors and students’ perspectives were examined using interviews, observations, and survey data collection methods. The theory of diffusion of innovation was used as a theoretical framework in both the design of the study and the analysis of the data. The findings from the study indicate that although the future application of MUVE can be promising, various challenges exist for instructors to adopt Second Life in their instruction.

This case study reports on the development of a bespoke mobile recording app for collating records of biodiversity sightings on a University campus. This innovative project was achieved through a multi-disciplinary partnership of staff and students. It is hoped that the app itself will benefit lecturers by streamlining data collection during teaching and learning activities, whilst engaging students and highlighting the wealth of diversity available on campus

This chapter provides a comprehensive case study to demonstrate the longitudinal development of online pedagogy for higher education through a lens of interior design. The chapter presents constructivist theory as a guiding pedagogical framework for the creation of learning environments within Second Life (SL) virtual reality. Details of the rigorous process of incorporation of SL, as an enhancement to a traditional course with a laboratory component, is presented to validate the integrity of the scholarship of teaching and learning undertaken in the exemplar case study. The concluding components of the chapter review the iterative process of course outcome evaluation compared to course and accreditation standards to further demonstrate the educational value of virtual reality as an environment for learning.

Abstract. Forage harvest is a time and energy intensive process requiring the coordination of multiple pieces of equipment. Detailed characterizations of the time spent in each work state for each piece of equipment would increase the understanding of process inefficiencies and aid in development of optimization tools. Geospatial and controller area network (CAN) machine data were recorded on forage harvesters and transport equipment, during two types of harvest operations, to quantify utilization of harvesters and transports as well as transport productivity. The data collection and processing method was successful in identifying work states for forage harvesters and transports. The results indicated that overall utilization of the harvester for harvesting was 61% and dependent on transport availability. The portion of total operational time spent in the idle work state (idle utilization) was 10% to 20% for transports and 18% to 23% for harvesters. A new metric for transport productivity was developed and found to be highly dependent on transport capacity ranging from 125 to 49 Mg km h-1 for semi-trucks and smaller transports, respectively. The proposed data collection methods and productivity metrics could be used to optimize the forage harvest process to reduce idle time and maintain crop quality. Keywords: Controller area network, Cycle analysis, Forage harvester, Global positioning system.

This study aims to describe the motives for tantrum behavior in child X in Jorong X, Solok Regency. This study uses a qualitative case study model. The case study model was chosen because this study focused on individual cases, namely the case of tantrum children. The location of this research was conducted in Jorong X in Solok Regency. The research informants were selected by purposive sampling technique with the consideration that the subject was chosen according to the research objectives. Based on this technique, five informants were obtained. The data collection procedure was carried out in three ways, namely open interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. The data obtained from the collection techniques were analyzed by referring to the Miles and Huberman model which consists of four steps, namely data collection, coding, and sorting of data which are summarized in data reduction, data display, and concluding. Furthermore, guaranteeing the validity of the research data was carried out by using the triangulation technique, namely by combining three data collection methods. The results showed that tantrum behavior characterized by self-harm is a way for child X to make his wishes come true. The emergence of this behavior is supported by the response of parents who are more directing to a permissive pattern to always grant children's requests.

ABSTRACT: This paper aims at investigating experiences from students (postgraduate teaching apprentices) with activities developed through the WebQuest tool in order to observe traces of autonomy by the postgraduate students. This research also sought to scrutinize possible changes in students' perceptions regarding their role as a language teacher. The theoretical approach that guided this investigation encompassed the notions of autonomy, both from the learner’s and the teacher´s perspectives (BENSON, 1997; 2008; DICKINSON, 1994; MOURA FILHO, 2009; PAIVA, 2005), as well as the use of WebQuest as an efficient tool for learning (CHRISTIE, 2007; DIAS, 2010; MARCH, 2004). In this case study, data were generated by the observation of the activities' accomplishment and the responses of nine of the participants to a questionnaire designed in the virtual environment. The results showed that the activities proposed through the WebQuest tool provided the postgraduate students with autonomy in the knowledge construction and, therefore, it was possible to notice significant changes in their attitudes in relation to learning. KEYWORDS: autonomous learning; WebQuest; English teaching and learning.

This qualitative case study research deals with the implementation of the 100 Mosques / Musalla movement which socializes the MUI fatwa number 5 of 2010 concerning the Direction of the Qibla in Sleman Regency. by taking two districts to represent the conditions of urban and rural communities. The data collection methods are involved observation, documentation and interviews with 10 informants from community leaders in the two regions. Some people reject change because of their belief in the myth of the ijtihad of their predecessors, besides considering technology not as a means to perfect worship, including measuring the direction of the Qibla. However, most of the changes due to the certification of the mosque's Qibla direction do not require changes to the building, but only adjusting the prayer lines (saff) in the mosque. The dissemination of astronomical technology, which is understood as a form of ijtihad, can be done so that changes and developments that occur in the direction of the mosque's qibla can be accepted by the community.
