Trust Management Issues for Sensors Security and Privacy in the Smart Grid

Currently, smart grids have changed the world, given the great benefits of these critical infrastructures regarding the customers' satisfaction by offering them the electrical energy that they need for their business. Also, the smart grid aims to solve all the problems encountered in the current electrical grid (outage, lack of renewable energy, an excess in the produced power, etc.) by transmitting and sharing the information in real time between the different entities through the installation of the sensors. This chapter therefore presents the architecture of the smart grid by describing its objectives and advantages. In addition, the microgrids are presented as small electric networks. Then, focusing on the security aspects, an analysis of the different attacks and risks faced in the smart grids and more particularly in the microgrids is presented. After, different techniques and suitable security solutions are detailed to protect and secure the various elements of the smart grids and microgrids.

Recently many utilities, manufacturers, researchers, government leaders around the world are working on a very sophisticated issue, Smart Grid, to modernize both the electric power transmission and distribution grids for the future. As a suitable subject for special issue for the Journal of Advanced Computational Intelligence and Intelligent Informatics (JACIII), I found that Smart Grid with its impacts on many fields is a timely subject though related to the fundamental concept of this Journal on Intelligence and real-world applications and so forth. Smart grids are intelligent and self-healing power systems which integrate intelligent transmission network with IT and collect, distribute, and process information about the behavior of all power suppliers and consumers in order to improve reliability, power quality, and to reduce electricity costs. Using a key issue, smart meter, enables smart grids to have smart real time monitoring on a regional and national scale to control and management the grids to avoid or mitigate the system-wide blackouts. In this special issue, we hope to explore breakthrough and new contributions useful to achieve the goal of smart grid. Three papers were selected for this special issue: The first paper proposes a novel idea though a strategic system in energy and environment required in smart grid. Managing sources combination including solar energy as well as the production trading is a new kind of risk management in smart grid. Important extensions of this study includes emissions management program accommodating uncertain and erratic renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energies. The second paper is related to communication aspect required for smart grid technology when renewable energy in small smart communities is interconnected to the smart grid. The simulation model developed in this paper is believed to be a useful tool in real-time power management system in smart grid. Third paper is selected as another hot subject in smart grids; the authors developed an extended procedure that obtains a unit commitment including a significant wind power penetration and PEVs as additional reserves. The shadow prices obtained by the trade-off analysis may provide a basis of evaluating the equivalent cost of the wind farms and the applying PEVs as the reserve and their contribution toward CO2 reduction. Finally, using this opportunity, I would like to thank the reviewers for spending their valuable time for evaluating the papers and quick response which made this special issue catch the time. The current obsolete electricity network is being transformed into net an advanced, digitalized and more efficient one known as Smart Grid. The deployment of an Automatic Metering Infrastructure will make an unseen quantity of rich information available in near real-time, processed to make decisions for the optimal energy production, generation, distribution, and consumption. This document presents an analysis of the ENERMONGRID tool, a tool used for intelligent energy monitoring, data visualization and fraud detection in electric networks.

The article analyzes the dynamics of consumption of primary energy and production of electrical energy in the world for 1973-2012 and the volume of renewable energy. It is shown that in the crisis year of 20 0 9 there was a significant reduction in primary energy consumption and production of electrical energy. At the same time, renewable energy has developed rapidly, well above the rate of the world economy growth. The development of renewable energy is one of the most effective ways out of the crisis, taking into account its production regime, energy, environmental, social and economic efficiency. The forecast for the development of renewable energy for the period up to 2020, compiled by the IEA, is analyzed. It is shown that its assessment rates are conservative; the authors justify higher rates of development of renewable energy.

Since the 1990s, the digitalization process has transformed the communication infrastructure within the electrical grid: proprietary infrastructures and protocols have been replaced by the IEC 61850 approach, which realizes interoperability among vendors. Furthermore, the latest networking solutions merge operational technologies (OTs) and informational technology (IT) traffics in the same media, such as time-sensitive networking (TSN)—standard, interoperable, deterministic, and Ethernet-based. It merges OT and IT worlds by defining three basic traffic types: scheduled, best-effort, and reserved traffic. However, TSN demands security against potential new cyberattacks, primarily, to protect real-time critical messages. Consequently, security in the smart grid has turned into a hot topic under regulation, standardization, and business. This survey collects vulnerabilities of the communication in the smart grid and reveals security mechanisms introduced by international electrotechnical commission (IEC) 62351-6 and how to apply them to time-sensitive networking.

The integration of improved control techniques with advanced information technologies enables the rapid development of smart grids. The necessity of having an efficient, reliable, and flexible communication infrastructure is achieved by enabling real-time data exchange between numerous intelligent and traditional electrical grid elements. The performance and efficiency of the power grid are enhanced with the incorporation of communication networks, intelligent automation, advanced sensors, and information technologies. Although smart grid technologies bring about valuable economic, social, and environmental benefits, testing the combination of heterogeneous and co-existing Cyber-Physical-Smart Grids (CP-SGs) with conventional technologies presents many challenges. The examination for both hardware and software components of the Smart Grid (SG) system is essential prior to the deployment in real-time systems. This can take place by developing a prototype to mimic the real operational circumstances with adequate configurations and precision. Therefore, it is essential to summarize state-of-the-art technologies of industrial control system testbeds and evaluate new technologies and vulnerabilities with the motivation of stimulating discoveries and designs. In this paper, a comprehensive review of the advancement of CP-SGs with their corresponding testbeds including diverse testing paradigms has been performed. In particular, we broadly discuss CP-SG testbed architectures along with the associated functions and main vulnerabilities. The testbed requirements, constraints, and applications are also discussed. Finally, the trends and future research directions are highlighted and specified.

This paper lays out the role of the first centre in the world for the integration into the electrical grid of electricity coming from renewable energy (the Spanish acronym for which is CECRE (Centro de Control de Energías Renovables; Control Centre for Renewable Energies)) and the industrial development of large energy suppliers and wind turbine manufacturers in Spain. These two initiatives enabled the development of one of the first integrated markets for this type of energy source. The key contributions were the development of two software programs (wind management and management of solar light incidence), their visual implementation, and centralized digital control. An economic and business history approach is used to show the rise and relative failure of the Spanish wind industry during the period 2004–2015, when Spain became the fourth country after China, the US, and Germany in terms of installed capacity of renewable energy and, in relative terms, the second country after Denmark. This study is unique in that it provides an integrated vision of the reasons for the relative fall of Spain in the world ranking of wind energy producers. The methodology of the economic analysis of industrial policies makes it possible to explain the fall in the relative importance of Spain in the international panorama of wind farms

Introduction. The world market of electrical equipment is developing very fast. There are many companies in the market that sell electrical equipment, among them there are companies that occupy leading positions. Today, the world market of energy engineering is estimated at 87 billion dollars per year, based on the structural dynamics of growth, the annual volume can reach 110-115 billion dollars per year until 2025. The global market for energy equipment service in 2020 is 31.7 billion dollars, including: LTSA (long-term service) 47 %, modernization – 20 %, field service – 24 %, engineering – 9 %. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the world market of electrical equipment, determine sales, business growth. The list of leaders in electrical equipment on the world market is considered. Results. The main trends in the world today are the following areas: development of DC transmission system, cable lines for underwater laying and cable for connections of renewable energy sources to reduce energy transmission costs through the capabilities of existing transmission lines, through network voltages and innovative design solutions and installation methods. The amendment for these trends shows us the world leaders in the electrical market, such as Legrand, Schneider Electric, ABB, Siemens, DEKraft, SASSIN, EKF, etc., R&D costs are 3.5–5 % of profits (over 60 years). Thus, we can conclude that the global market for cable networks is developing rapidly. This market is expected to grow in the development of smart grid technologies, renewable energy generation and initiatives to modernize the transmission and distribution system. Conclusion. That the global cable ladder market is developing rapidly. This market is expected to grow in the development of smart grid technologies, renewable energy cultivation and government initiatives to modernize transmission and distribution systems.

This paper gives a review of energy scenario in India and other countries. Today’s demand of the world is to minimize greenhouse gas emissions, during the production of electricity. Henceforth over the world, the production of electrical power is changing by introducing abundantly available renewable energy sources like sun and wind. But, because of the intermittent nature of sustainable power sources, the electrical power network faces many problems, during the transmission and distribution of electricity. For resolving these issues, Electrical Energy Storage (EES) is acknowledged as supporting technology. This paper discusses about the world electrical energy scenario with top renowned developed countries in power generation and consumption. Contribution of traditional power sources changed after the introduction of renewable energy sources like sun and wind. Worldwide Agencies are formed like International Energy Agency (IEA), The Central Intelligence Agency, (CIS) etc. The main aim of these agencies is to provide reliable, affordable and clean energy. This paper will discuss about the regulatory authority and government policies/incentives taken by different countries.  At the end of this paper, author focuses on obstacles in implementation, development and benefits of renewable energy.
