This chapter analyses the impact of innovation on business tourism success and the relationship between leader and employee to develop the hotel's ability to become competitive. Recent developments in the hospitality industry are a challenge not only for leader, but also for employees, and then they are forced to perform innovations activities. Today, the most visible innovation in tourism is that brought by new technologies, which modify behavior and facilitate and enrich travel experiences in multiple ways. So, the leaders of this industry must always be very close to their employees and must really encourage participation and innovative ideas within the organization.

This paper discusses and analyzes how Information Technologies destabilize the banking sector and induce irrevocable changes in the sector that lead to new entrants, innovation and, above all, disintermediation. Our objective is to analyze the relationship between the financial market, IT and financial intermediation, in order to detect the impact of the automation of the financial market on the traditional intermediation activity of banks. Based on a descriptive analysis of the Tunisian banking sector, and over the 1998-2018 periods, we have shown that the disintermediation of Tunisian banks is the consequence of the automation of the financial market. The more the financial market invests in IT, the more banks are Disinter mediated. In Tunisia, IT is a driving force behind the disintermediation of banks. In any case, recent developments confirm the fact that rather than asserting that traditional banking is dead, the above analysis advocates a renewal of the banking economy. The role of banks is not about to diminish. The era of direct finance and new technologies has not so much created disintermediation but rather a new sharing of roles in the financial sphere.

The scientific report aims to highlight the positive interaction between technology and hotel guests. The relationship between technology and customer experience is examined. The role of innovation as a tool for enhancing the positive experience of tourists is highlighted. The focus is on digital applications and their relationship to satisfaction. The main global trends that demonstrate the impact of hotel automation on visitor satisfaction are outlined. Attention has been focused on research from recent years. The author defends the thesis that guests seek interaction with automation as it directly affects the quality of service and thus enhances their positive experience. Innovation is a key tool for creating a quality experience.

This Europe and the World: A law review special issue comprises selected papers presented at a RENFORCE workshop on the theme of tensions between the EU’s trade and non-economic values, held at Utrecht University in November 2017. The symposium addresses normative dilemmas underlying the EU’s trade law and policy. Normative dilemmas subsist between, on the one hand, the EU’s basic pursuit of its commercial interests and trade liberalization, and, on the other hand, the EU’s mandate to promote and safeguard a number of non-economic values, including human rights and sustainable development. The journal symposium aims to unveil normative tensions existing in the EU’s trade and investment policy, and understand some of the key actors and processes through which normative tensions are created and also mitigated. While the tensions between economic and non-economic values in the EU’s trade law and policy have been extensively discussed in literature, the present symposium highlights some of the recent developments in the EU’s trade relations, analyses not only human rights but also sustainable development, and examines the impact of new technologies.

This article reflects upon recent developments in sex offender tracking and monitoring. Taking as its focus a suite of mobile applications available for use in the United States, the author explores the impact and consequences of remediating the data held by State offender databases. The article charts the recent history of techno-corrections as it applies to this category of criminal, before then undertaking an analysis of current remediation of this legally obtained data. In doing so, the author identifies how the recontextualizing of data serves to (re)negotiate the relationship between the user, the database and registered sex offenders. The author concludes by arguing that the (mobile) mapping of offender databases serves to obscure the original intentions of these recording mechanisms and might hinder their effectiveness in reducing sex offending.

The present research explores the impact of training and innovation on organisational performance. Additionally, this research scrutinises how job satisfaction partially mediates the impact of training and innovation on organisational performance. Therefore, in order to achieve the objective of this research, the survey procedure using single-stage cluster sampling method is used to develop an in-depth profile, which is gathered from 653 out of 800 formal standardised questionnaires sent to employees who are in the managerial or supervisory level and above at 400 hotels in West Malaysia. For this research, only two questionnaires were distributed to the managers of each hotel. This research employed quantitative methods to produce empirical results and shreds of evidence that fulfil the research questions. The literature scrutinised training, innovation, job satisfaction, and organisational performance to fill the gap and to uncover the significance of training programs and innovation on organisational performance with job satisfaction as the mediator. The analysis shows that training and innovation are statistically significant and has a strong relationship with job satisfaction and organisational performance. Conclusively, the hypothesis depicted that job satisfaction mediates the relationship between training and innovation on organisational performance in the hospitality industry. Thus, the findings of this study could aid as an example to other hoteliers in Malaysia to not presume the impact of training and innovativeness on organisational performance. Recent developments in the gig economy triggered labour law. Platforms change the relationship between customers and workers causing over-subordination of workers. The over-subordination is caused by customers and the surveys they complete to evaluate the worker. The influence of customers over workers can also be seen in a more traditional setting. However, customers are not always king. It is suggested in this article that surveys can be used as an instrument to build decent labour relationships. Installing the measurement of needs measures the impact of customers on workers. By installing a continuous measure of the needs, we have at our disposal an instrument to fulfil labour law’s wellbeing function. Labour legislation could oblige employers to integrate need satisfaction into their customer surveys and their workers surveys. By doing so, technology allows us to make sure that platform work or any kind of work where workers meet high customer demands, become ‘Innovative forms of work that ensure quality working conditions’, as requested by the European Social Pillar.

This chapter explores the application of Information Technology to healthcare in the United States. Recent developments and trends in healthcare information technology (HIT) are presented and discussed. Widespread adoption of HIT promises to save lives, save money, and improve health. Definitions, descriptions, and examples of electronic health records (EHRs) and personal health records (PHRs) are provided. The significant efforts to broadly and meaningfully adopt HIT over the next several years are discussed. The significant challenges in implementing EHRs are discussed, including transformation of clinical processes. Finally, the impact of HIT on the concept of ownership of the healthcare record and how it may change the relationship between the patient and healthcare provider are explored. Implementing effective HIT on a nationwide scale will require considerable effort.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate how relationship marketing practice can lead to customer satisfaction in the current practices in the hotel industry in Ghana. Globally, the hospitality industry ranks as one of the most competitive business sectors with competing organisations relying on a cocktail of strategies such as relationship marketing to stay relevant, and attract and retain customers. This paper examines how relationship marketing impacts on trust, commitment and satisfaction for customers in the Ghanaian hospitality industry. Design/methodology/approach A positivist methodological framework was used for the collection of data, analysis and theoretical development in this research. The data collection questionnaire was administered to 167 guests of a 3-star hotel in the Accra Metropolis. Structural equation modelling was used to ascertain the significance of the relationship that exists between trust, commitment and customer satisfaction with respect to the relationship marketing practices of hoteliers in Ghana. Findings Study findings provide insight into the processes and practices of relationship marketing that is based on trust and commitment. The findings show a positive and significant relationship between trust, commitment and customer satisfaction. The study also revealed that commitment partially mediates the association between trust and customer satisfaction. Research limitations/implications While this study is limited to a single hospitality and tourism company in Ghana, the findings can have far reaching implications for managers in the hospitality industry in Ghana, it provides a vivid illustration of the impact that customer satisfaction can have on the fortunes of business and a genuine desire to develop trust and be committed to the welfare of business clients can lead to higher customer patronage. Practical implications Trust and commitment in the hospitality industry requires innovative business practices that makes the client value all the service experience that he or she may encounter. The findings indicate that customer satisfaction is influenced by trust and commitment in the hospitality industry. Originality/value Value to the authors’ knowledge, the relationship between trust and commitment in relationship marketing and customer satisfaction concepts has not previously been investigated using structural equation modelling analysis within the Ghanaian hospitality industry. This implies that both trust and commitment are necessary to attain customer satisfaction.

Slem, Levi and Young (1986) developed a model of the psychological impact of technological change on the workforce. The purpose of current research was to investigate the relationship between stress and technological change. The “Impact of Technological Change Survey” was administered to workers in five large electronics manufacturing corporations. Almost one-third of the workforce believed that technological change would make the individual's job more stressful. Over 20% were worried about the future of their jobs. Anticipated role conflict, role ambiguity, and quantitative role overload produced the strongest and most consistent relationships with the global measure of stress. Qualitative role overload and beliefs about reduction in force were more closely allied to job insecurity stress. Anticipated stress is reduced somewhat when technological change is seen as providing personal and organizational benefits or when the organization is perceived as effectively dealing with the transition to the new technology.
