Multi-Perspectives of Cloud Computing Service Adoption Quality and Risks in Higher Education

Universities worldwide are starting to turn to cloud computing. The quality characteristics, which include access to a wider network of computing resources, pay-as-you-go services, self-services, agile services, and resource centralisation provide a convincing argument for HEIs to adopt cloud services. However, the risks leading to non-adoption range from security issues to a lack of cloud vendor support. The findings suggest that security, privacy, and trust are the key determinants to non-adoption as stakeholders felt that the cloud cannot fully guarantee the safeguarding of sensitive information. Key determinants to cloud adoption include improving relationships between students and teachers via collaborative tools and proposing cloud apps for mobile devices for accessing virtual learning materials and email securely off-campus. In conclusion, university stakeholders are still unconvinced about adopting cloud services, but future advances of the cloud may help to steer their decision to adopt this innovative technology given its overwhelming potential.

Ghana has attained cloud readiness indices facilitating services adoption by local enterprises through brokerage firms. Accordingto Gartner group by 2015, at least 20% of all cloud services will be consumed via internal or external cloud service brokerages,rather than directly with service providers. It means enterprises must identify local cloud brokerage firms to intermediate for cloudclients and service providers. We aimed at surveying cloud service awareness among enterprises in Ghana. We performed fieldstudy using statistical tool to analyze data collected among 45-participants spread across 20 local enterprises, using purposivesampling in the selection of strategic enterprise managers located in the second largest city, Kumasi, Ghana. We employedDelphi technique involving three Information Technology experts to validate responses in reducing margin of error in the analysis.We found that 67% respondents are unaware of local cloud service brokerage firms. Alternatively, 33% respondents mentioned atleast one local cloud brokerage firm; although experts believed some did a chess guessing to have it correct. Our Delphi expertsattributed this alarming percentile to lack of policy stakeholders involvement in ensuring cloud adoption readiness. We concludedon effective sensitization of cloud computing service adoption in optimizing data center proliferation by enterprises in Ghana.Adopting cloud computing over data center helps in reducing global warming contributed by heat emissions from computingservers.


Cloud computing is an innovation for dynamic resources to be used over the internet. Though cloud computing is cost effective and easy to use, security is often an area of concern. Sharing of sensitive information and running critical applications on public and/or shared cloud environments require high degree of security. Amount of data stored and processed is increasing enormously requiring cloud environments to resize to larger capacities. Cloud environments have both pros and cons concerning the security of data of the consumers using cloud services. This chapter discusses the main security issues faced by cloud computing environments. The main focus of this chapter is to describe the issues faced during building cross-domain collaborations over the internet and usage of cloud services and its security. This chapter also identifies the security at various levels of cloud computing and, based on cloud architecture, categorizes the security issues.

Cloud computing in governments has become an attraction to help enhance service delivery. Improving service delivery, productivity, transparency, and reducing costs necessitates governments to use cloud services. Since the publication of a review paper on cloud adoption elements in e-governments in 2015, cloud computing in governments has evolved into discussions of cloud service adoption factors. This paper concentrates on the adoption of cloud computing in governments, the benefits, models, and methodologies utilized, and the analysis techniques. Studies from 2010 up to 2020 have been investigated for this paper. This study has critically peer-reviewed articles that concentrate on cloud computing for electronic governments (e-Governments). It exhibits a systematic evaluation of the empirical studies focusing on cloud adoption studies in e-governments. This review work further categorizes the articles and exhibits novel research opportunities from the themes and unexhausted areas of these articles. From the reviewed articles, it has been observed that most of the articles have employed the quantitative approach, with few utilizing qualitative and mixed-method approaches. The results reveal that cloud computing adoption could help solve problems in learning, such as infrastructure issues, cost issues, and improve service delivery and transparency. This review gives more information on the future directions and areas that need attention, like the trust of cloud computing in e-governments.

Cloud computing is becoming an adoptable technology for many of the organizations with its dynamic scalability and usage of virtualized resources as a service through the Internet. Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services over the Internet. Cloud services allow individuals and businesses to use software and hardware that are managed by third parties at remote locations. Cloud Computing is a computing model, in which customer plug into the “cloud” to access IT resources which are priced and provided “on-demand”. The major challenges that prevent Cloud Computing from being adopted are recognized by organizations are security issues. Many techniques for securing the data in cloud are proposed by researcher but almost all methods have some drawbacks and till date no appropriate method has not been proposed that Cloud service providers can win the trust of customer. In this research paper the various security issues are reviewed along with cloud computing service providers which will give a deep insight for cloud service providers as well as researchers to work on the areas and make cloud computing a“trusted computing “and hardening the confidence of organizations towards cloud computing migration.

The use of Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly growing and a huge amount of data is being generated by IoT devices. Cloud computing is a natural candidate to handle this data since it has enough power and capacity to process, store and control data access. Moreover, this approach brings several benefits to the IoT, such as the aggregation of all IoT data in a common place and the use of cloud services to consume this data and provide useful applications. However, enforcing user privacy when sending sensitive information to the cloud is a challenge. This work presents and evaluates an architecture to provide privacy in the integration of IoT and cloud computing. The proposed architecture, called PROTeCt—Privacy aRquitecture for integratiOn of internet of Things and Cloud computing, improves user privacy by implementing privacy enforcement at the IoT devices instead of at the gateway, as is usually done. Consequently, the proposed approach improves both system security and fault tolerance, since it removes the single point of failure (gateway). The proposed architecture is evaluated through an analytical analysis and simulations with severely constrained devices, where delay and energy consumption are evaluated and compared to other architectures. The obtained results show the practical feasibility of the proposed solutions and demonstrate that the overheads introduced in the IoT devices are worthwhile considering the increased level of privacy and security.

The main goal of any data storage model on the cloud is accessing data in an easy way without risking its security. A security consideration is a major aspect in any cloud data storage model to provide safety and efficiency. In this paper, we propose a secure data protection model over the cloud. The proposed model presents a solution to some security issues of cloud such as data protection from any violations and protection from a fake authorized identity user, which adversely affects the security of the cloud. This paper includes multiple issues and challenges with cloud computing that impairs security and privacy of data. It presents the threats and attacks that affect data residing in the cloud. Our proposed model provides the benefits and effectiveness of security in cloud computing such as enhancement of the encryption of data in the cloud. It provides security and scalability of data sharing for users on the cloud computing. Our model achieves the security functions over cloud computing such as identification and authentication, authorization, and encryption. Also, this model protects the system from any fake data owner who enters malicious information that may destroy the main goal of cloud services. We develop the one-time password (OTP) as a logging technique and uploading technique to protect users and data owners from any fake unauthorized access to the cloud. We implement our model using a simulation of the model called Next Generation Secure Cloud Server (NG-Cloud). These results increase the security protection techniques for end user and data owner from fake user and fake data owner in the cloud.

Cloud Sweden is a story about how a group of experienced IT-people from different sectors of the industry came together and discussed a relatively new phenomenon called the Cloud; or what is today labelled as Cloud computing. And they realised there was a tremendous momentum and potential prosperity connected to it. They also concluded that in order to support potential users and to promote Sweden as an IT-oriented country in the forefront of the development there was a need for information – organisations considering migrating their IT functions to the Cloud should at least be able to make an informed decision. There are significant advantages with this new technology, but also a number of pitfalls that any user should be aware of. There were for example critical security issues at hand before when the servers were placed within the four walls of the office and there still are critical security issues relating to the Cloud. However, the issues to solve are different. Cloud Sweden was founded and the different branches of the group have produced a number of documents published on its website. Cloud Sweden has apart from a number of members working actively in the steering and competence groups several thousand members from the industry in a Linkedin network. In this article you will find a sample of what the legal group of Cloud Sweden has produced – a primer of legal issues that a migrant shall pay attention to before the leap into the Cloud.

This paper presents a review related to Cloud Computing focusing on Cloud business requirements. From the review the author recommends a number of methods managing Cloud services and evaluating its service performance, including the use of a pair of the Hexagon Models. Three organizational challenges of Cloud adoption are identified: (i) Organizational Sustainability; (ii) Portability and (iii) Linkage. The Cloud Computing Adoption Framework (CCAF) is designed to deal with these challenges by helping organizations to achieve good Cloud designs, deployment and services. How these three challenges are addressed by the CCAF is demonstrated using case studies. Services implemented by CCAF are reviewed using the Hexagon Models for comparison. This paper provides recommendations to help organizations, researchers and practitioners to understand Cloud business context, to measure their risk and return analysis, to migrate their services to Cloud from all types and to connect and integrate different services as a single service.

Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) which combines mobile computing and cloud computing, has become one of the industry ring words and a major conversation thread in the IT world with an explosive development of the mobile applications and emerging of cloud computing idea, the MCC has become a possible technology for the mobile service users. The concepts of Cloud computing are naturally meshed with mobile devices to allow on-the-go functionalities and benefits. The mobile cloud computing is emerging as one of the most important branches of cloud computing and it is expected to expand the mobile ecosystems. As more mobile devices enter the market and evolve, certainly security issues will grow as well. Also, enormous growth in the variety of devices connected to the Internet will further drive security needs. MCC provides a platform where mobile users make use of cloud services on mobile devices. The use of MCC minimizes the performance, compatibility, and lack of resources issues in mobile computing environment.
