Statistics in the Mathematics Curricula in Bulgaria

Living in the 21st century brings new challenges for the educational system, especially that which concerns education in mathematics, statistics, and technologies. In this chapter, recent problems of teaching statistics in schools in Bulgaria are discussed. The present state of the mathematics curriculum is presented, namely in the section “Probabilities and statistics”; some existing problems are discussed, and recommendations are made for further improvement of the teaching material. The objective of the study is to provide ground for increasing the statistical literacy of the younger generation through a more comprehensive and more up-to-date education in school.

Literasi statistika merupakan kemampuan penting untuk menghadapi revolusi industri 4.0. Penelitian ini mengumpulkan informasi sejauh mana kemampuan literasi statistika didukung oleh kurikulum matematika untuk Sekolah Dasar di Indonesia. Studi dokumentasi dilakukan pada beberapa naskah kurikulum, yakni Kurikulum Berbasis Kompetensi 2004, Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan 2006, Kurikulum 2013, serta revisi Kurikulum 2013 (2016, 2018, dan 2020). Sebagai pembanding, dianalisis pula Cambridge Primary Mathematics Curriculum dan kurikulum 1975. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perhitungan statistik deskriptif dan pembuatan diagram dijumpai pada semua kurikulum matematika SD tahun 2004 hingga 2020. Pada kurikulum 2013 dan sesudahnya, dijumpai pula kompetensi terkait pengumpulan data dan interpretasi data. Adapun kompetensi terkait peluang hanya dijumpai pada kurikulum 2013, Cambridge, dan kurikulum 1975. Masih diperlukan pengembangan kurikulum pada kompetensi proses pemecahan masalah statistika serta pendalaman terkait penggunaan statistik deskriptif dan diagram secara tepat. Statistical literacy is an essential competence to face the 4.0 industrial revolution. This study aims to collect information on how statistical literacy skills accounted in the Indonesian primary school mathematics curriculum. We study several curriculum documents' that had been used in Indonesia, namely the 2004 Competency-Based Curriculum, the 2006 Education Unit Level Curriculum, the 2013 Curriculum, and the revised 2013 Curriculum (2016, 2018, and 2020). We also analyzed the Cambridge Primary Mathematics Curriculum and the 1975 Indonesian curriculum. We find that calculation of descriptive statistics and chart making appeared on all Indonesian primary school mathematics curricula. The 2013 curriculum and its successor also contains some competencies related to data collection and interpretation. Probability-related competence is found only on the 2013 curriculum, the 1975 curriculum, and the Cambridge Curriculum. Further curriculum development should be focused on the statistical problem-solving competence and appropriate use of descriptive statistics and charts.

Although the maintenance of diversity of living systems is critical for ecosystem functioning, the accelerating pace of global change is threatening its preservation. Standardized methods for biodiversity assessment and monitoring are needed. Species diversity is one of the most widely adopted metrics for assessing patterns and processes of biodiversity, at both ecological and biogeographic scales. However, those perspectives differ because of the types of data that can be feasibly collected, resulting in differences in the questions that can be addressed. Despite a theoretical consensus on diversity metrics, standardized methods for its measurement are lacking, especially at the scales needed to monitor biodiversity for conservation and management purposes. We review the conceptual framework for species diversity, examine common metrics, and explore their use for biodiversity conservation and management. Key differences in diversity measures at ecological and biogeographic scales are the completeness of species lists and the ability to include information on species abundances. We analyse the major pitfalls and problems with quantitative measurement of species diversity, look at the use of weighting measures by phylogenetic distance, discuss potential solutions and propose a research agenda to solve the major existing problems.

Anti-Muslim emotions are not new for the world. It was present since the rise of Islam. West was furious after facing Muslims in battle ground and constantly defeated by those who were less equipped but obtained high morals. Initially they were frightened due to the novelty and unique approach of faith and its execution, therefore, they try to fabricate the original manuscripts, making false stories and molesting the last prophet’s life history. Islamophobia transformed after 9/11 and become more intensified and dangerous. It effected the common men worldwide without any boundaries. The respective research is based on the fact that hatred is the negative notion whether it related with nobility or wicked perception. It creates harmful effects on human psychology which subsequently created abusive mindset and actions. When any form of ideology identified as phobia means uncontrolled envy combine with the concept and turn it into a form of frenzied connotation. The fight between East and West was ancient which now convert among religions particularly Islam and others. The research is intend to provide the journey of anti-Islamism from past to present as well its significant elements and its present state. It also discusses the future prospects of clash of religions.

The need for realization of inclusive education, which is the basis of a sustainable education, will require new challenges in the Education System. The system used in Italy can be used as an example. Italy passed avant-garde laws concerning the integration and inclusion of special needs students into the general school system already more than thirty years ago, in the 1970s. However, even after all this time and experience, there are still unresolved problems, which testifies to the complexities of the matter. This research offers an insight into the quality of the existing Italian inclusive education system specifically in relation to students with autism. Thereby it hopes to provide educators in Latvia with food for thought about this currently important topic.

The activities of the Third (Communist) International left a noticeable mark on the political history of Latin America. His ideological, organizational legacy remains a factor in shaping the theory and practice of contemporary leftist governments in the region. This article examines the impact of the legacy of the Comintern on international processes in Latin America, the development of integration projects, foreign policy projects of the left forces of the region. On the basis of archival documents, media materials, documents of parties and governments, the authors show which of the foreign policy guidelines of the Comintern are relevant for the region in the 21st century.
