A Framework for Collaborative and Convenient Learning on Cloud Computing Platforms

The depth of learning resides in collaborative work with more engagement and fun. Technology can enhance collaboration with a higher level of convenience and cloud computing can facilitate this in a cost effective and scalable manner. However, to deploy a successful online learning environment, elementary components of learning pedagogy must be embedded in the technology framework. A cloud computing technology based learning platform built on the proven learning pedagogies will be most successful attempt to facilitate collaborative and convenient learning. Such platform will support the learners to connect and coordinate the online resources in a more efficient, effective and practical way. This paper proposes a new theoretical framework for collaborative and convenient learning on cloud computing technology by reviewing various learning theories and integrating them with the technology framework. Architectural details of the framework have been presented with suitable examples for a better understanding. The work has a lot of significance for deploying cloud computing based collaborative learning solutions in the educational institutions.

With the continued growth of mobile devices usage, wireless communications improvement, and cloud computing evolution, many educational institutions around the world, especially universities and colleges, began to provide their students with mobile learning systems based on cloud computing. The widespread, ubiquitous, and flexible natures of mobile devices make mobile learning an attractive alternative in education, particularly when integrating it with cloud computing which is the up-to-date technology that delivers computing hardware and software as services. However, the participatory between mobile learning and cloud computing as a cloud based mobile learning (CBML) becomes one of the important methods in the learning process. Many researches have attempted to combine the unique features of CBML in a form of frameworks. These frameworks have been designed to identify, categorize, or evaluate the major components of the CBML system. This paper is an attempt to identify the important role of cloud computing technology in mobile learning, investigate the main advantages and limitations of CBML systems, and explore the previously designed CBML frameworks.

PurposeOne of the most significant threats of COVID-19 in the world is the closure of universities, schools, training courses and even companies and organizations. In such a situation and with the free time that has arisen, this threat of education closure can become a golden opportunity for learning and progress in virtual education. E-learning uses information technology (IT) to distribute knowledge and information for training and education. Also, cloud computing is a technology utilized in the IT domain. It can be employed in performing e-learning. Therefore, the main goal of this study is to assess the impact of cultural characteristics, economic situations, skills and knowledge on the development and success of CELS in the COVID-19 era.Design/methodology/approachCloud-based e-learning system (CELS) provides all e-learning requirements like software and hardware resources to promote conventional e-learning technologies. The CELS stands on several factors of diverse aspects that have been of high significance in CELS success. So, these systems must be checked to analyze their significance rate and successfully carry out their effectiveness. On the other hand, these days, the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) changes our daily lifestyles. Therefore, the present investigation provides a new model investigating the development and success of CELS in the COVID-19 era. Also, an online questionnaire was used to gather the data. The content validity of the questionnaire was obtained by applying the opinions of ten experts from e-learning specialists. The collected data are analyzed using LISREL and Smart PLS software.FindingsThe results from the path coefficient and the sample t-test have implied that skills and knowledge positively influence CELS in the COVID-19 era. In addition, the relationship between cultural characteristics and CELS in the COVID-19 era has been positive and significant. The relationship between the economic situations and the CELS in the COVID-19 era is positive and significant.Practical implicationsThe proposed model helps managers get a big picture of CELS necessities and more effectively in the COVID-19 era. This research has a unique impact on universities to develop an e-learning platform to facilitate the education process in the COVID-19 era. It provides guidelines for educational institutions to effectively implement the learning management system to facilitate students' education.Originality/valueCELS are getting increasingly essential to offer training courses more efficiently in educational institutions. Although the intersection between cloud computing and e-learning has increasingly grown in both practical and academic contexts, few studies on the impact of cultural characteristics, economic situations, skills and knowledge on the development and success of CELS in the COVID-19 era. This paper explores the ignored but critically important subject of CELS. This paper's main contribution is to present a new and integrated model containing the essential aspects of the development and success of CELS in the COVID-19 era. The proposed framework comprises cultural characteristics, economic situations, skills and knowledge aspects simultaneously, as well as sub-criteria denoting each element.

The cloud computing paradigm offers an innovative and promising vision concerning Information and Communications Technology. Actually, it provides the possibility of improving IT systems management and is changing the way in which hardware and software are designed and purchased. This paper introduces challenges in Global Software Development (GSD) and application of cloud computing platforms as a solution to some problems. Even though cloud computing provides compelling benefits and cost-effective options for GSD, new risks and difficulties must be taken into account. Thus, the paper presents a study about the risk issues involved in cloud computing. It highlights the different types of risks and how their existence can affect GSD. It also proposes a new risk management process model. The risk model employs new processes for risk analysis and assessment. Its aim is to analyse cloud risks quantitatively and, consequently, prioritise them according to their impact on different GSD objectives.


Cloud computing is an internet-based service of delivering technology to users and an important technological facility where mutual resources are delivered on demand. Usage of cloud computing in educational Institutions provides students as well as administrative staff an opportunity to access various applications and knowledge swiftly. Its simplicity, upfront-cost, reduced downtime and less management effort make this service acceptable for all fragments of society particularly students and teachers. Despite the fact that the cloud computing technology is very useful, such as ease of access, cost effective. It has various issues like security violations, data confidentiality, data integrity, regional and geographical restrictions over the data. Safe cloud services are required to protect its users from different external threats such as disclosure or loss of data and compromising of users’ accounts. Users’ understanding about the cloud computing’s advantages, disadvantages and security issues can protect them from potential threats while ensuring its optimal usage in education. In this paper, a survey has been conducted to identify students understanding about the advantages, disadvantages and security issues regarding cloud computing in the educational sector. A sample of 212 respondents from graduate and undergraduate programs was taken to obtain required information. The findings reveal a lack of awareness about the use of cloud computing, its benefits, and security concerns and the implications of this deficiency are critical as multiple issues like outflow of personal data and its loss is faced by its users which may have adverse social, emotional and professional effects on student’s life. Considering the usefulness as well as the sensitivity of cloud computing in educational institutions, Authors propose maximum utilization of cloud computing in educational sector while ensuring the security of its users.

Recently researchers have shown an increased interest in cloud computing technology. It is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore cloud computing technology in education context. However rapid changes in information technology are having a serious effect on teaching framework designs. So far, however, there has been little discussion about cloud computing benefits in domains of teaching frameworks which propels us to study and redesign teaching frameworks considering cloud computing. The purpose of this paper is to review recent research into cloud computing and features which can be improved with this new technology. This paper studied several researches through literature to determine the main impact of cloud computing on “planning and preparation” and “instruction” domains as two main domains of teaching framework. Light will be then shed on the impact and potential benefits of cloud computing on teaching framework. The paper closes by proposing to design an evaluation table based on cloud computing artifacts to enhance teaching practice and highlights its offerings for educational institutions.


Communication and technology in a health care setting is the most important tool in health promotion. Recently, cloud computing technology is used to enable cost-effective applications to facilitate communication, information sharing and record maintenance regarding health and medicine. It allows dissemination of information from facebook, which is currently the largest online social network. Combining cloud computing and social networking could allow creating health social networking system employing a human –oriented, interactive medical web and this would improve the quality of current applications in health care communication and technology.

This chapter describes an economical and scalable open source cloud computing technology suitable for a university environment where the need is to simultaneously serve a diverse spectrum of educational and research missions. In particular, this chapter reviews a cloud computing technology called Virtual Computing Lab (VCL, http://vcl.ncsu.edu). This open source technology was originally designed and built at North Carolina State University (NCSU), and its seamlessly supports both the electronic teaching and learning needs of the university as well as a robust environment for faculty high performance computing research needs. Extensive data from the NCSU VCL production system show the economic scalability of the solutions. The authors discuss economic viability of the solution and the trade-off analysis that needs to be done to understand how much of the equipment, virtualization, and workload balancing among on-demand and background workloads need to happen.

In the world of information communication technology (ICT) the term Cloud Computing has been the buzz word. Cloud computing is changing its definition the way technocrats are using it according to the environment. Cloud computing as a definition remains very contentious. Definition is stated liable to a particular application with no unanimous definition, making it altogether elusive. In spite of this, it is this technology which is revolutionizing the traditional usage of computer hardware, software, data storage media, processing mechanism with more of benefits to the stake holders. In the past, the use of autonomous computers and the nodes that were interconnected forming the computer networks with shared software resources had minimized the cost on hardware and also on the software to certain extent. Thus evolutionary changes in computing technology over a few decades has brought in the platform and environment changes in machine architecture, operating system, network connectivity and application workload. This has made the commercial use of technology more predominant. Instead of centralized systems, parallel and distributed systems will be more preferred to solve computational problems in the business domain. These hardware are ideal to solve large-scale problems over internet. This computing model is data-intensive and networkcentric. Most of the organizations with ICT used to feel storing of huge data, maintaining, processing of the same and communication through internet for automating the entire process a challenge. In this paper we explore the growth of CC technology over several years. How high performance computing systems and high throughput computing systems enhance computational performance and also how cloud computing technology according to various experts, scientific community and also the service providers is going to be more cost effective through different dimensions of business aspects.
