UKM (small and medium enterprises) in the Tembesi Tower, Tembesi sub-district, are not developing well. This is indicated by the low turnover obtained by each UKM (small and medium enterprise) in 1 month. customer expectations. New products must be made so that these small and medium businesses can survive and continue to exist. The new product must have a distinctive and good quality so that the product positioning is clearer and able to compete with other products on the market. This service activity aims to provide a solution to this by creating a new product in the form of a dab soap that is safe for health and environmentally friendly. Some soaps circulating in the market only prioritize cleaning power, but the chemical content in the soap is harmful to health and the environment. The impact of conventional soap on health is irritation of the skin which, if left for a long time, the irritation will turn into eczema. In addition, conventional soap also harms the environment because the raw material for soap comes from petroleum which is difficult to be broken down by bacteria. Community service activities are carried out in the form of coaching. The service team expects to increase the income and advantages of UKM (small and medium businesses) in the Tembesi Tower and to be able to create jobs or open a business with a revolutionary cream soap product design.

Many types of Internet interactions can facilitate networking (e.g., The Web, Web services). Since the advent of the Internet, service requesters and service providers have generated diverse electronic services (e-services), and since 2003, many experts have proposed the concept of Web 2.0. People rely on Internet e-services to execute activities and meet requirements; however, e-services lack a standardization method for constructing and managing them. In spite of the increasing significance of broadband, many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are unaware of or unappreciative of its benefits. This is potentially a problem for governments, Internet Service Providers and other supply side institutions. The current study empirically verifies applicability of an extended IS continuance model controlling for organizational variables based on the Technology-Organization-Environment framework to examine factors influencing broadband post-adoption behavior of SMEs in Singapore. Strong support for the model has been manifested by the results, providing insight into influential factors. Results of the study suggest that perceived usefulness is a strong predictor of users’ continuance intention, followed by satisfaction with broadband usage as a significant but weaker predictor. SMEs in a more competitive business environment and whose key executive possesses greater IT knowledge are more likely to use broadband.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are faced will many challenges, and the development of a sound strategy for the SME could define how these challenges are met which, in turn, could mean the difference between success or failure of the enterprise. If a sound strategy is major contributing factor to the success of a small business, but the evidence of sound strategic management (as taught in universities and business schools) is not present in successful SME’s, one could question the way strategic management is conceptualised. The study thus aims to gather a greater understanding of strategic management – and strategy formulation practices in particular – within SME’s. The study employed a qualitative, descriptive design with semi-structured interviews conducted with 12 SME owners in Gauteng. Findings reveal that the majority of participants were in favour of and supported the notion of having a strategy for small and medium enterprises, but none of them made reference to a formal process regarding strategy formation.

Key words: Strategy; strategy formulation, small and medium businesses; planning; qualitative research
