Performance evaluation is a systematic way for companies to analyze their current status and progress to reach their goals. Companies constantly evaluate their processes in research and development, purchasing, production, sales and marketing departments in order to determine new ways to improve their capabilities. In this study, the authors proposed an evaluation model to evaluate the performance of small and medium enterprises (SME) which play a major role in country's economy under given high attention to “Production Process.” In the proposed model, Fuzzy Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (F-DEMATEL) and Fuzzy Analytic Network Process (F-ANP) methods were used to calculate the weights of performance criteria. A case study has been conducted in a manufacturing SME for empirical evidence. The results from this study indicate that C5.1 (new processes on the current or new products are developed and applied expeditiously), C3.3 (products are delivered on time) and C5.3 (products are appropriate to environment, health, safety and regulatory policies) are the most important criteria for the company to which the model was applied. “C5 Process Management” and “C3 Production Planning” are declared as two important main criteria relevance to others.

PurposeThis study proposes a dynamic performance evaluation model to support the material availability of the public institution under performance- based logistics (PBL) and to select the most appropriate service provider.Design/methodology/approachThe model consists of four stages. In the first stage, a criteria set to evaluate alternatives is created. In the second stage, the DEA-MTFP index method is applied for performance evaluation of the alternatives by using crisp data. In the third stage, IFS theory is utilized for aggregating decision-maker judgments on alternatives, and in the last stage, the results of both methods are turned into single value, and it is selected as the most suitable alternative.FindingsIt is verified that the proposed approach can be implemented to the real-life dynamic multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem that have crisp and fuzzy data under the PBL strategy.Practical implicationsThis paper offers an integrated approach for performance analysis of service providers in a dynamic MCDM problem in which crisp and fuzzy data are used together. To illustrate applicability and validity of the proposed model, it is applied to a real-life problem.Originality/valueThis paper utilizes the DEA-MTFP index method and IFS theory in an integrated way.

Functional improvement needed in remodeling projects is determined by users in a complex manner since remodeling projects require performance improvement against deterioration. This study defines fundamental Remodeling Performance Criteria (RPC) for apartment housing by referring to performance criteria of both domestic and international performance-related systems. In this case study, performance evaluation of Construction Element Method (CEM) for remodeling projects was conducted based on RPC. For the objective evaluation of CEM, performance scores were calculated and normalized by using the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) model, which is used in a multicriteria decision-making method. The TOPSIS evaluation model allows for a comprehensive and comparative analysis on the performance of the remodeling solution. The TOPSIS model in this study suggests a standard logic of performance evaluation for aged buildings as it analyzes the degree of deterioration at the prior remodeling phase and predicts the performance improvement level for CEM at the remodeling planning phase.

International market entry of entities can be through exporting, licensing, franchising, partnering and strategic alliance, acquisition and Greenfield venture. However, small and medium enterprises (SMEs’) initial international market entries are limited to exporting. Hence, assessing the international marketing environment is essential for deciding the pre-export or initial export stages of going international. It also needs favourable policies to support the trade growth of SMEs between countries. Hence, this research study aims to develop a quantitative approach for assessing the international trade attractiveness between regions with physical, political, economic, sociocultural and technological (PPEST) variables and the fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) technique. This research study is novel in its approach for identifying the prominence causal variables of trade attractiveness by applying the Fuzzy DEMATEL technique. The results revealed that ‘focusing on the development of new technologies’ and ‘Physical distribution and communication network’ were the core factors influencing the trade attractiveness between the regions. Furthermore, directions for policy implementation and research expansion in this domain were also presented.

The measurement performance of road vehicle automatic weighing instrument installed on highways is directly related to the safety of roads and bridges. The fuzzy number indicates that the uncertain quantization problem has obvious advantages. By analyzing the factors affecting the metrological performance of the road vehicle automatic weighing instrument, combined with the fuzzy mathematics theory, the weight evaluation model of the dynamic performance evaluation of the road vehicle automatic weighing instrument is proposed. The factors of measurement performance are summarized and calculated, and the comprehensive evaluation standard of the metering performance of the weighing equipment is obtained, so as to realize the quantifiable analysis and evaluation of the metering performance of the dynamic road vehicle automatic weighing instrument in use, and provide data reference for adopting a more scientific measurement supervision method.

In the industrial economy, evaluating company performance based on financial results was good enough. However, in the current globalized and highly competitive environment, maintaining long term competitiveness requires companies to engage in overall strategic planning and performance evaluation. The balanced scorecard is a tool or method for balancing an organization's performance and can react to situations where a company's direction becomes disoriented. This approach assists in strategy planning, process management, and performance evaluation from four perspectives, including financial, customer, internal process, and learning and growth. Good strategy planning provides companies with a correct management direction, correct process management ensures the efficient execution of plans, and correct performance evaluation illustrates the execution results. This study mainly focuses on how a large rubber company in Taiwan utilizes the balanced scorecard in its organization. As the technical perspective is important in the rubber keypad industry, besides the four above perspectives, this company has added the technical perspective. By introducing this company and its progress in implementing the balanced scorecard, this study hopes to provide other companies, especially rubber companies, with a planning direction and reference for the future implementation of the balanced scorecard.

In order to improve the process management of table grape packaging, its performance should be evaluated. However, the literature on performance evaluation indicators is scarce. To address this research gap, we propose a method for the development of performance evaluation indicators for table grape packaging units, which are characterized by labor-intensive and highly seasonal production processes in the agro-economic sector. The stages include the following: contextualizing table grape packaging units, selecting the performance objectives, selecting techniques to be used in the development of the indicators, and applying the method to the packaging units of table grapes. The techniques adopted in the development of the indicators aimed at the cost, quality, flexibility, reliability, and speed performance objectives were data envelopment analysis, principal component analysis, quantification of the batch, compliance with the program within the established deadline, and measurement of the execution time of the batch, respectively. The results obtained in the case study demonstrate that the correlations between the performance indicators do not indicate the need to disregard any of them. Furthermore, the standard deviation values for each indicator are similar. Thus, both results of correlations and standard deviation confirm the importance of the indicators chosen for the performance evaluation of table grape packaging.
