Search engine advertising (SEA), in which businesses (or advertisers) bid on keywords and pay search engine providers (e.g. Google) to get a secure place on the first page of search results, is a prominent source of revenue for search engine companies, and an effective method for businesses to promote their visibility on the Web. SEA is a complex and dynamic form of advertising and managing it effectively is still a challenge for many businesses, particularly smaller businesses. Building upon resource-based theory, this study has developed a context-specific model for understanding advertisers' competency factors that influence SEA effectiveness. Using structural equation modelling and survey data collected from 142 businesses, this research has found that SEA effectiveness is influenced by organizations' ability to manage keywords and bids, ability to analyse and monitor outcomes, advertising expertise, commitment to SEA task, and the use of external experts. Moderating relationships between the factors have been examined, and the implications of the findings for both academics and practitioners have been discussed.

The innovation of Search Engine Advertising (SEA) acts as a prominent source of revenue for search engine companies, as well as being a solution for businesses to promote their visibility on the Web. However, the underlying factors that contribute to businesses’ decision to adopt SEA have not been well investigated. Building upon known behavioural theories (Theory of Planned Behaviour, Technology Acceptance Model and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology) this paper conceptualizes and develops a context-specific model for understanding the factors that influence the decision of businesses to utilize SEA. The conceptual model of the paper proposes that this decision is influenced by four direct factors (attitude toward SEA, subjective norms, perceived control over SEA, perceived benefits of SEA) and ten indirect factors (trust in search engines, perceived risk of SEA, ability to manage keywords and bids, ability to analyse and monitor outcomes, ability to detect click fraud, advertising expertise, using third party tools, using external experts, perceived complexity of SEA tool, commitment to SEA).The study also identifies future research directions.

Tacit knowledge (TK) is an intangible asset of the organisation and forms a major part of organisational knowledge. TK is personal, context-specific knowledge, difficult to formalise, record or articulate and it is stored in the heads of people. TK is part of informal learning components. TK has received growing attention and popularity due to its uniqueness and significant contributions to organisational performance. Despite its crucial role, the effects of TK on employee learning have often been neglected due to the notion of measurement difficulty. As a result, it poses challenges to capture both knowledge and expertise of individuals. This paper presents and discusses the construct validation of TK. Construct validity is a test that measures the intended construct and is particularly important in the social sciences-related disciplines. This paper deliberates how items development for TK is measured and tested for validation. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) technique was employed for construct validation in terms of convergent and discriminant validities. Pre- and post-validations were also conducted to detect any validation discrepancies using exploratory factor analysis.

AbstractBehaviours such as territorial defence represent functionally integrated traits that underlie multiple behavioural variables such as physical and acoustic responses. Characterizing the multivariate structure of such traits is fundamental to understand their evolution. In bird species that form stable pair bonds and are territorial year-round, both sexes are expected to defend their territory; however, the role that each sex plays in defending their shared territory remains largely unknown. Evidence for the sex-roles during territorial defence is mixed and sex- and context-specific characterizations of territorial defence embracing the multivariate nature of the trait are currently lacking. Here we investigated sex- and context-specific variation in a hypothesised latent variable called “territorial defence” and tested whether duets were part of territorial defence in a wild population of rufous hornero (Furnarius rufus). To do so, we combined a simulated territorial intrusion approach during nest building and provisioning contexts with a structural equation modelling approach. Our results showed that, in males and females, the six measured behavioural variables were linked by a single latent trait, territorial defence, in both contexts. Flights over the decoy and duet songs were equally good proxies of territorial defence. Although males were defending more the territory than females, pair members showed a positive correlation in their behaviour. The structural equation modelling framework enabled us to capture a complex correlation pattern among behavioural variables, expanding upon a classic body of research on territorial defence. Thus, the combination of classical behavioural approaches with sophisticated statistical analyses brings new exciting possibilities to the field of behavioural ecology.Significance statementTerritorial defence is a key behaviour in territorial species as it plays a major role in an individual’s reproductive success and survival. Additionally, territorial defence has been proposed as one possible evolutionary driver of duetting behaviour, one of the most fascinating vocal behaviours in birds. As behaviours are evolutionary characters, they must be studied in a multivariate framework. In this study we focused on characterizing territorial defence during a simulated territorial intrusion in an integrative manner using a classical territorial intrusion framework. We did so in male and female rufous horneros (Aves: Furnaridae) across two breeding contexts, while simultaneously testing theoretical predictions about the role of duetting behaviour as key part of territorial defence. Overall, our study provides for the first time a sex- and context-comparison of the multivariate, latent variable “territorial defence” in duetting birds, while highlighting the potential of combining field behavioural approaches with structural equation modelling.

The internet has made the digital ecosystem a viable commerce destination, but has also made it a content and media dystopia. Illegal access to user information and the frequent data breaches have sparked interest in privacy protection behaviour. Privacy focused technologies have emerged to provide personalized privacy assurance. It is as if a digital civil war is underway, and the online commerce industry is the collateral damage. The study investigates the antecedents and influence of usage fatigue on online commerce usage decrease. Structural equation modelling is used to analyze responses from three higher education institutions in Cyprus. Five hundred eighty-seven responses are drawn and used for the analysis. User anonymity, perceived effectiveness of industry-self regulation, and privacy literacy are the main antecedents of usage fatigue. Usage fatigue positively influences online commerce usage decrease and is more apparent among with people higher perception of industry self-regulation, an indication of low effectiveness of industry self-regulation of online commerce in the region.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of prestige sensitivity on mobile phone customer’s price acceptance in Vietnam and the mediating role of product knowledge and price mavenism on this relationship. We used the convenience sampling method for data collection via questionnaires with a sample of 605 consumers who purchased mobile phones. The collected data was analysed by applying a structural equation modelling method. The result indicates that prestige sensitivity has both direct and indirect effects on price acceptance via product knowledge and price mavenism. The findings suggest that prestige sensitivity can be used as a market segmentation criterion for mobile phones when making price decisions and providing customers with adequate information could improve price acceptance.
