To tackle the knowledge representation problem in developing intelligent conceptual design system, a BP network based approach is proposed, in which the related knowledge regarded various mechanical transmissions can be acquired and represented with the trained weight and threshold of neural network if they are turned into numerical data, encoded with binary strings, employed as learning samples, and fed into the constructed BP neural network. In a sense, the trained neural network can be used as a knowledge base of expert system to facilitate the choosing process of mechanical transmission. This paper provides a promising approach to deal with the automation of knowledge representation in conceptual design of mechanical transmission.

In order to obtain high precision results of urban air quality forecast, we propose a short-term predictive model of air quality in this paper, which is on the basis of the ambient air quality monitoring data and relevant meteorological data of a monitoring site in Licang district of Qingdao city in recent three years. The predictive model is based on BP neural network and used to predict the ambient air quality in the next some day or within a certain period of hours. In the design of the predictive model, we apply LM algorithm, Simulated Annealing algorithm and Early Stopping algorithm into BP network, and use a reasonable method to extract the historical data of two years as the training samples, which are the main reasons why the prediction results are better both in speed and in accuracy. And when predicting within a certain period of hours, we also adopt an average and equivalent idea to reduce the error accuracy, which brings us good results.

Leafminer is one of pest of many vegetables, and the damage may cover so much of the leaf that the plant is unable to function, and yields are noticeably decreased. In order to get the information of the pest in the vegetable before the damage was not serious, this research used a BP neural network to classify the leafminer-infected tomato leaves, and the fractal dimension of the leaves was the input data of the BP neural network. Prediction results showed that when the number of FD was 21 and the hidden nodes of BP neural network were 21, the detection performance of the model was good and the correlation coefficient (r) was 0.836. Thus, it is concluded that the FD is an available technique for the detection of disease level of leafminer on tomato leaves.

When thermopile sensor is used for safety monitoring of equipment in industrial environments, particularly for measuring the thermal radiation information of device, the measured result of this kind of sensor is usually affected by ambient temperature due to its unique structure. An improved PSO-BP algorithm is proposed for temperature compensation of thermopile sensor and correcting the error in the condition of the system accuracy requirements reduced by temperature. The core of improved PSO-BP algorithm is to improve the certainty of initial weights and thresholds that belonged to BP neural network and then train the samples by using BP neural network for enhancing the generalization ability and stability of system. The experimental results show that the proposed PSO-BP network outperforms other similar algorithms with faster convergence speed, lower errors, and higher accuracy.

Three-ratio of the IEC is a convenient and effective approach for transformer fault diagnosis in the dissolved gas analysis (DGA). Fuzzy theory is used to preprocess the three-ratio for its boundary that is too absolute. As the same time, an improved quantum genetic algorithm IQGA (QGASAC) is used to optimize the weight and threshold of the back propagation (BP). The local and global searching ability of the QGASAC approach is utilized to find the BP optimization solution. It can overcome the slower convergence velocity and hardly getting the optimization of the BP neural network. So, aiming at the shortcoming of BP neural network and three-ratio, blurring the boundary of the gas ratio and the QGASAC algorithm is introduced to optimize the BP network. Then the QGASAC-IECBP method is proposed in this paper. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm in this paper that both convergence velocity and veracity are all improved to some extent. And in this paper, the proposed algorithm is robust and practical.

Total energy, maximum peak amplitude and RMS amplitude are sensitive to sand body, and they are non-linear relations with sand thickness. In this study, a three-layer BP neural network is employed to build the prediction model. Nine samples were analyzed by three-layer BP network. The relationships were produced by BP network between sand thickness and the three seismic attributes. The precise prediction results indicate that the three-layer BP network based modeling is a practically very useful tool in prediction sand thickness. The BP model provided better accuracy in prediction than other methods.

The Ambient Compressive Strength (CS) of pellets, influenced by several factors, is regarded as a criterion to assess pellets during metallurgical processes. A prediction model based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was proposed in order to provide a reliable and economic control strategy for CS in pellet production and to forecast and control pellet CS. The dimensionality of 19 influence factors of CS was considered and reduced by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The PCA variables were then used as the input variables for the Back Propagation (BP) neural network, which was upgraded by Genetic Algorithm (GA), with CS as the output variable. After training and testing with production data, the PCA-GA-BP neural network was established. Additionally, the sensitivity analysis of input variables was calculated to obtain a detailed influence on pellet CS. It has been found that prediction accuracy of the PCA-GA-BP network mentioned here is 96.4%, indicating that the ANN network is effective to predict CS in the pelletizing process.

Aero engine is impacted by foreign objects frequently during daily usage, including runway gravel, birds, fuselage components and so on, so the fan and compressor may damage, resulting in serious air crash. Thus, simulating the impact of blades and establishing the numerical analysis model of dynamic response demand immediate attention. In the analysis model, damping coefficient is one of the most important physical parameters of the blade structure and cannot be directly measured. Rayleigh damping is widely applied and can be converted to direct modal damping in ABAQUS. BP neural network is a multi-layer feedforward neural network using back propagation algorithm to adjust the network weights. It can be proved that there exists a three-layer BP network to realize the mapping of arbitrary continuous functions with arbitrary precision. In this study, a novel method for obtaining the damping ratio of the flat blade which applies BP neural network inversion is proposed. In order to demonstrate this method, a simplified experiment was conducted. Firstly, fix a section of aluminum plate and then conduct two set of drop tests on different positions with different impact velocities by a steel ball. At the same time, vibration response was recorded by displacement sensor. Secondly, establish a finite element model using ABAQUS to simulate the drop test. Adopt twenty groups of models with different damping ratio and then obtain their amplitudes and decay time, respectively. Thirdly, train a BP neural network using MATLAB program and then establish the mapping relationship between amplitude, decay time and damping ratio. Fourth, a set of experimental amplitude and decay time is substituted into the previously obtained BP neural network mapping model, and then the real damping ratio is obtained by inference. Finally, the real damping ratio is applied to the flat blade impact simulation of the other set of drop test for validation. The numerical results are consistent with the experimental data, which indicates that the damping ratio obtained by BP neural network inversion is reasonable and reliable.

This paper proposes using BP neural network PID to improve the yaw stability of the vehicle with active front steering system. A dynamic model of vehicle with active front steering is built firstly, and then the BP neural network PID controller is designed in detail. The controller generates the suitable steering angle so that the vehicle follows the target value of the yaw rate. The simulation at different conditions is carried out based on the fore established model. The simulation results show the BP neural network PID controller can improve the vehicles yaw stability effectively.
