Hot cutting is strictly forbidden in coal mines, especially for those with high density of gas. As the only one cold cutting technology, abrasive suspension jet could be used in coal mines to solve the problem of cutting operation under hazardous environments. Based on the technology of abrasive suspension jet, this paper developed a portable cutting machine which is suitable for the dangerous and complex environment in coal mines. Experimental results indicate that the cutting machine could well meet the requirements of cutting operations in coal mines, such as machinery maintenance. Methods for monitoring the quantity of abrasive within the high-pressure tank and the wear of nozzle were also investigated. Safe cutting could be ensured by application of this portable cutting machine. Promotion of the technology would have significant social and economic benefits.

An innovative dosing system for abrasive blast wear is presented. This system allows the dosing and dispensing process to be controlled on the surface of the disc scraper. The system consists of a high-pressure tank equipped with a pneumatic propulsion mixer which ensures continuous mixing of the abrasive suspension. The system also includes a device for applying the component for the lathe and electronic control of the forced dosage process.

The droplet deformation in dispersing units of high-pressure homogenizers (HPH) is examined experimentally and numerically. Due to the small size of common homogenizer nozzles, the visual analysis of the transient droplet generation is usually not possible. Therefore, a scaled setup was used. The droplet deformation was determined quantitatively by using a shadow imaging technique. It is shown that the influence of transient stresses on the droplets caused by laminar extensional flow upstream the orifice is highly relevant for the droplet breakup behind the nozzle. Classical approaches based on an equilibrium assumption on the other side are not adequate to explain the observed droplet distributions. Based on the experimental results, a relationship from the literature with numerical simulations adopting different models are used to determine the transient droplet deformation during transition through orifices. It is shown that numerical and experimental results are in fairly good agreement at limited settings. It can be concluded that a scaled apparatus is well suited to estimate the transient droplet formation up to the outlet of the orifice.

Hazardous environments such as in industry sector with high chemical usage give high risks to the safety of workers. These risks can be reduced by designing robotic hand that is able to replace human works. For the industry purpose, the robotic hand needs to have a higher performance in accuracy, stability and consistency. However, the current robotic hand in industry is not flexible, which means it cannot be used for different tasks. Therefore, a multi-purpose robotic hand was developed. In this paper, the objectives of this research are to design and develop a PID controller for improving the performances of a robotic hand system. The experimental results prove that the PID controller shows good performances with the steady state error less than 0.110 for the input reference, 300 respectively.

This paper presents an efficient method to detect the fastener based on the technologies of image processing and optical detection. As feature descriptor, the Direction Field of fastener image is computed for template matching. This fastener detection method can be used to determine the status of fastener on the corresponding track, i.e., whether the fastener is on the track or missing. Experimental results are presented to show that the proposed method is computation efficiency and is robust for fastener detection in complex environment.

Techniques of producing ultra-high pressure at very low temperature and measuring method of electrical resistance and magnetization of samples confirmed in the used diamond anvil ceil (DAC) are shortly described. Experimental results on simple molecular systems such as iodine, sulfur, oxygen and organic iodanil are reviewed as typical example of pressure induced superconductivity.

To meet the requirement for high transparency of agar gel used in tissue culture, bacteriological applications, and high-quality cosmetics and food, this study on improving the transparency of agar products was carried out by using activated carbon for decolorization and perlite for aiding filtration. The results showed that the pre-coating filtration method was better than that of the mixed slurry filtration, so an orthogonal experiment optimization was conducted using the pre-coating filtration method based on the single factor experimental results. The experimental results showed that the optimal process conditions based on the transparency index were: concentration of agar of 1.30%, activated carbon dosage of 0.80%, processing temperature of 95 °C, and treatment time of 20 min. Agar products with gel transparency of 58.93% and blue-ray whiteness value of 93.82 could be obtained under these experimental conditions. The order of the factors influencing the decolorization ratio of agar was as follows: activated carbon dosage > concentration of agar > processing temperature > treatment time. The experimental results provided effective procession methods for the production enterprises based on transparency and increased economic benefits, and it was of practical significance.
