Ca-Mg-Al hydrotalcite-like compounds (CaMgAl-HTLcs) were synthesized by a hydrothermal method, and characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) techniques. The effects of the medium pH value, the molar ratio of the raw materials, the reaction temperature and the reaction time on the structure of CaMgAl-HTLcs were studied. The results showed that increasing treatment temperature and reaction time could improve the crystallinity and monodispersity of hydrotalcite-like compound particles. And well-defined CaMgAl-HTLcs could be prepared at a pH value of 10~11 with n(Zn+Mg+Ca):n(Al) =2. The products synthesized were applied to PVC to improve the thermal stability of PVC.

Polyacrylate latex containing fluorine and silicon was successfully synthesized by semi-continuous seed emulsion polymerization, using organic silicon(OSi) monomer, fluorocarbon(FC), methacrylic acid(MAA), and butyl acrylate(BA) as raw materials. Transmission electron microscope(TEM) characterization indicated that the latex particles were form uniform analogous core-shell structure. Dynamic light scattering(DLS) show a narrow size distribution. The results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) revealed the fluorine and silicon transfer to the film-air interface. The reaction was evaluated using fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) spectrum. The thermal stability of the latex films which analysed by thermogravimetric(TG) was improved due to the join of OSi and FC.

Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions singly activated Gd2O2S hollow spheres have been successfully synthesized via solvothermal method by using Gd (NO3)3, Eu (NO3)3, Tb (NO3)3 and thiourea as raw materials. Detailed characterization of the as-prepared samples were obtained by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electronic microscope (TEM) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The results demonstrate that at 220 oC for 24 h, the molar ratio of thiourea/Gd3+ has no significant impact on the phase composition of Gd2O2S products. With the reaction time increased from 6 h to 24 h, the morphology of Gd2O2S samples changed from ellipsoidal to near-spheroidal structure, but still remained hollow structure. PL results show that the strongest emission peaks for Gd2O2S:Eu3+ and Gd2O2S:Tb3+ samples were centered at 625 nm and 545 nm, corresponding to the 5D0→7F2 transition of Eu3+ ions and 5D4→7F5 transition of Tb3+ ions, respectively. The quenching concentrations for Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions were 12% and 6%, which can be attributed to the exchange interaction for Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions, respectively.

The use of waste materials for producing biodiesel via transesterification has been of recent interest. In this study, the pork bone was used as the raw materials for natural hydroxyapatite (NHAp) catalyst. The calcination of animal bone was conducted at 900 °C for 2 h. The raw material and the resulting heterogeneous catalyst were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method. The effects of reaction time, microwave power, methanol/oil molar ratio, catalyst loading and reusability of catalyst were systematically investigated. The optimum conditions, which yielded a conversion of oil of nearly 94%, were reaction time 5 min and microwave power 800 W. The results indicated that the NHAp catalysts derived from pork bone showed good reusability and had high potential to be used as biodiesel production catalysts under microwave-assisted transesterification of Jatropha Curcas oil with methanol.

This study aims to determine the effect of the Si/Al molar ratio and the number of Na2EDTA additions on the purity and crystallinity levels of the synthesized zeolite X. zeolite X was synthesized by hydrothermal method at 70°C and 120°C for 3 and 6 hours, respectively. In the synthesis of zeolite X used boiler ash and aluminum foil waste. The results of characterization using Fourier Transform Infra Red (FT-IR) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) showed that the level of purity and crystallinity of the synthesized zeolite X was influenced by the variation of Si/Al molar rasio and amount of Na2EDTA addition. The zeolite with the best quality was obtained from the synthesis with a Si/Al molar ratio of 1.6 and the amount of Na2EDTA added as much as 3.0 g. The synthesized zeolite X has a purity level of 75% and a degree of crystallinity with a total intensity of 845.

PMMA/MMT nanocomposites has been prepared by using methyl methacrylate (MMA), montmorillonite (MMT) and ethanolamine as the raw materials via an in-situ free radical polymerization process. The as-prepared nanocomposites were characterized by Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results show that the poly(methyl methacrylate) and inorganic montmorillonite have been effectively combined. The structure and thermal stability of the as-prepared nanocomposites are different from the content of MMT in the nanacomposites.

AbstractTo increase the solubility and produce cationic or ampholytic polymers as beater additives in papermaking from native hemicelluloses, quaternization of hemicelluloses were performed by reacting hemicelluloses with 3-chloro-2- hydroxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride (CHMAC) and preferably with 2,3- epoxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride (ETA) in aqueous sodium hydroxide, homogenously in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and completely heterogeneously in ethanol/water, respectively. The extent of modification was measured by degree of substitution (DS), and its value of up to 0.55 can be controlled by adjusting the molar ratio of reagent to hydroxyl functionality in hemicelluloses and the concentration of sodium hydroxide. The characterization of hemicellulosic derivatives was performed by elemental analysis, GPC, FT-IR and 13C NMR spectroscopy as well as thermal analysis. It was found that hemicellulosic polymer was significantly degraded in aqueous sodium hydroxide solution compared with in dimethyl sulfoxide and in ethanol/water systems under the conditions given. The thermal stability of modified hemicelluloses decreased after chemical modification, corresponding to the decreasing Mw of hemicelluloses derivatives.

Abstract. Polyaniline (PANI) and p-phenylenediamine (p-PDA)-aniline copolymer were prepared via a same microemulsion method. The structures of the PANI and p-PDA-aniline copolymer were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA). The results revealed the difference of synthesis and characterization between PANI and p-PDA-aniline copolymer. It was shown that structure of the copolymer is almost similar to that of PANI, but the p-PDA-aniline copolymer has a better crystallization than PANI, and the thermal stability of the copolymer is higher than that of pure PANI.

Here, we report the synthesis and experimental characterization of three drug-drug eutectic mixtures of drug aminoglutethimide (AMG) with caffeine (CAF), nicotinamide (NIC) and ethenzamide (ZMD). The eutectic mixtures i.e., AMG-CAF (1:0.4, molar ratio), AMG-NIC (1:1.9, molar ratio) and AMG-ZMD (1:1.4, molar ratio) demonstrate significant melting point depressions ranging from 99.2 to 127.2 °C compared to the melting point of the drug AMG (151 °C) and also show moderately higher aqueous solubilities than that of the AMG. The results presented include the determination of the binary melt phase diagrams and accompanying analytical characterization via X-ray powder diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy.
