As an important part of traditional Chinese culture, traditional Chinese decorative patterns, to a great extent, symbolise local customs as well as social, political and economic circumstances of China. Ceramics is of both use value and aesthetic value. Decorative patterns facilitate the latter of the two as a main means. Nowadays, designers are facing a great challenge of how to inherit the aesthetics and the spirit of traditional Chinese decorative patterns and how to apply modern design concepts to contemporary ceramics design. This paper investigates the origins, implications, categorizations and application examples of traditional Chinese decorative patterns in both ancient and modern ceramics designs. Based on the investigation, the paper strives to demonstrate the essence of traditional Chinese decorative patterns, enhance the charm of modern ceramics design, as well as to explore new cultural added value of traditional Chinese decorative patterns.

The social subject-matter in the management theory and practice has been dominant during the last years. The reasons for this are most different - the increasing asymmetries in the living standard of particular groups of society, the dynamic, even turbulent, changes in some areas of development, which create risks which are increasingly more difficult to overcome, particularly for vulnerable groups, and last but not least - the politicians’ desire to give a quick, though not always an adequate reply to the social challenges. The manner of carrying out these policies is an additional problem. It is an elementary truth that there is no way they can simultaneously solve all problems of society. Therefore it is a question of priorities, i.e. of sectoral and local policies, the choice of objectives and means of achieving significant results. Keywords: policies, social development, social policies, programmes, perspective.

Supervision practice in social work is understood as the mainstay of the profession. However, various studies have pointed to the inadequacies of supervision to facilitate quality service provision. Previous studies have reflected a general misalignment between the approach to supervision practice and the approach to social work practice as one inadequacy leading to the failure of supervision practice. Although there are numerous supervision models in the profession, some of which are aligned with certain practice approaches, none is directly identifiable with the social development approach, which should be at the core of social work orientation in South Africa. Thus, this article provides a process model of supervision in social work that aims to establish a dialectical relationship between supervision and the social development practice approach. The study was underpinned by Thomas’ research and design process, which was used to design and develop a social work supervision model mirroring a social development approach. The paper concludes with recommendations related to the use of the developed model.

This chapter presents an overview of the social development model (SDM)—a general theory of human behavior that integrates research on risk and protective factors into a coherent model. The goal of this synthesis is to provide more explanatory power than its component theories. This chapter first specifies the model constructs and their hypothesized relationships to prosocial and antisocial behaviors. It then provides a synthesis of what has been learned from empirical tests of social development hypotheses for predicting pro- and antisocial behaviors. This chapter also highlights interventions derived from the SDM and summarizes their impact on pro- and antisocial behaviors. Finally, the chapter concludes by presenting future directions for SDM-based research.
