This paper analyzes the factors influencing the contemporary architectural innovation. It puts forward that the model of standardization and mass production contribute to similar “international” architectural form, which results in the disappearing of the “national character” and“regional character” of Chinese architecture. However, simplified traditional expressions make contemporary architectural innovation too superficial, leading to a “trap” of imitation. It also pointes out that the combination of the methods of symbol and metaphor , technology and materials of modern architecture, a further exploration of traditional culture symbols, cultural energy stimulating is the power source of contemporary architectural innovation, and make a argumentation through success and failure cases.

Research the evolution of architectonic aesthetics by concentrating on politics and economics in the background of Globalization. The accelerative modernization forces the individual aesthetic needs into the opposite, from which point out the evolution of the post-modern architecture can also be traced into the process from the deviation from astriction to sensibility then to the reflection on basic rationalism and at last to the aesthetic individualism. In conclusion, the trend of individualism, personalization and pure “experience” in architectonic aesthetics will continue its evolution and exert its influence on the development of Chinese architecture.

In times of the global integration of economy and culture, the preservation of the value of national traditional culture and the variety of architectural culture is of great significance for the development of national culture. Design is supposed to be the perfect combination of technology and art, which cannot be separated from the cultural factors. Design is influenced and constrained by culture and in turn reflects the characters of culture of the time. Design of any age is closely related with the local culture. The traditional culture of nationality, regionalism and sociality not only affects the contemporary arts movement but also directly influences the contemporary designing movement.

As a participator of social practice, architect is responsible for maintaining the insistence and sustainable development of local civilization. Chinese architects are preceding with a misbelief that heritage and adoption of “modernism” does not premise on the doubt and repulsion of “universalism” civilization, just as their counterparts in advanced countries in early years. This article will examine the case of National Theatre of China, one of the most iconic buildings that have been looming in the skyline of Chinese metropolises in recent years. They are known to the Chinese public for their unprecedented, and often nicknamed, architectural types. Critics tend to deem such examples of contemporary Chinese architecture from recent waves of urban development as merely “bizarre,” taking wacky building forms as the dishonorable outcome of a corrupt conspiracy between capital and politics. Instead of making a similar judgment, this article will discuss the case of the National Theatre as a wishful cultural practice in the context of a complicated sociopolitical drama. The discussion will elaborate on three core issues emerging in the transformation of contemporary Chinese public space: (1) how the meaning of the architectural “face” changes as the urban “body” is redefined, (2) how formal and technical means enhance or weaken the psychological impact that an innovative and adventurous building might have on its patrons, and (3) how rigid urban planning is reconciled with a more dynamic and active theatric space that turns the city itself into an improvised stage.

Although “etiquette” is the essence of traditional culture in China, due to the development of modern society, its perspective should include the requirement of human sympathy, transformation of objects, and the role or duty associated with one’s title so that an appropriate manner can be well maintained. The times have changed and if the traditional etiquette cannot follow the steps of civilization, it will be eliminated. Contemporary Chinese weddings have become popularized and funerals religionized; however, they cannot completely meet the expectations of the Confucianists, but rather follow the development of etiquette, while conforming to the principles underlying the legislation and implementation of the rules of etiquette. Furthermore, integration can be found in the phenomenon of popularized weddings and religionized funerals, fully making it obvious that religious behavior has combined with the local wedding ceremonies. Because of the influence of Taoism and Buddhism, local folklore characteristics can be seen in funeral rites. As a result, if the connotations of the etiquette are maintained, whether it is a popularized or religionized ceremony, such etiquette can still be accepted by the society.

Architecture is an indispensable part of the development of human civilization and the carrier of human civilization. The evolution of architectural style can also reflect the development of a nation. With the continuous development of history, the preservation and development of historic sites has gradually become a topic of common concern in China and the west. However, with the continuous development of modern technology, there are fewer and fewer traditional cultural elements in the newly-built buildings, which lead to the gradual loss of some traditional architectural culture. In order to avoid the further aggravation of this phenomenon, something should be done. From the perspective of the development characteristics of Chinese and western architectural culture, the characteristics and differences of the development process of Chinese and western architecture were listed from ancient to modern times, and gradually the main reasons for the different development directions and characteristics were analyzed. In addition, according to the law and characteristics of the development of Chinese and western architecture, some methods on how to solve the inheritance of Chinese modern architecture to traditional culture were put forward.
