Abstract Multimedia technology has become widely available and it has tremendous potential. As computers getting faster every day, multimedia applications are reaching new ground constantly. However, a fundamental problem of multimedia systems is the interprocessor/intermachine communication speed. In this paper, we introduce a platform based on the Scalable Coherent Interface (SCI, ANSI/IEEE std 1596). The system can be physically distributed but logically closely coupled. All processors/machines in an SCI system shared physical memory and cache coherence is maintained even among remote processors. The interprocessor communication bandwidth can be as high as 1 Gbyte/sec. We will discuss the features of SCI-based systems when multimedia application is considered.

The growing needs for accountants, especially for those who can use and understand information technology, has encouraged accounting programs at the higher education level to offer information system courses. Given this fact, this study aims to (1) assess the students’ perception on the importance and relevance of the information system courses for their major and future works, (2) examine the relationship between the student’s awareness on information system subjects and their performance in these subjects, (3) identify the factors influencing the students’ perception on teaching practices in information system courses. The data was collected through questionnaires which were distributed to accounting students in the Faculty of Economics, Andalas University. This research found that a better understanding on teaching materials of the information system courses have helped students to understand other subjects taught in the accountancy program. Moreover, the student’s motivation, views and the lecturer’s teaching methods and knowledge are the main contributors for the student’s success in these courses.

Since the main form of teaching in higher education is a lecture, the main didactic goal of the lecture is to form the necessary basis for teaching students teaching materials. The most vulnerable aspect of traditional education is the students' indifference to the one-sided high activity of the teacher. For this reason, the number of lecture types has recently increased. Lectures using feedback methods are one way to energize students. One of the ways to effectively use information technology is to provide virtual feedback to students during lectures. In this work, an experiment was carried out using a virtual feedback tool. The importance of virtual feedback is emphasized and practical examples are given

As teachers of English as a second language (L2) in web communication, our aim is to help L2 students improve their spoken and written English language skills. Teacher feedback has been shown to do this in some cases. However, only using teacher feedback can put huge pressure on the teacher, both in terms of time and resources. This paper describes and discusses our attempt at introducing peer feedback as an additional way of providing students with feedback on their English writing. Before conducting this study, we did not know if peer feedback would be feasible in our teaching environment or whether it would benefit the students and teachers. Our aim was to establish a status quo of our students’ abilities in providing and implementing peer feedback. We introduced peer-feedback tasks and focused on the types of feedback provided by the students, the phrasing of the feedback, both when implemented and not implemented by the students, and the types of revisions made by the students. Our findings allowed us to develop peer-feedback process guidelines for web communication as a way towards improving written feedback processes in higher education, and hopefully for others to adapt and implement in their own communication classrooms.

No teaching method has evolved as much as distance education, in the state of Amazonas this would not be different, especially in higher education. Distance Education is a modality where the student is separated from the teacher and uses several communication technologies around all his learning. The methods used were bibliographic, documentary and quantitative. The researched environment was the capital city of Manaus and the municipality of Maués, with the application of the closed questionnaire aimed at higher education students. Our objective was to question certain nuances as their benefits and challenges for those who study Distance Education in the different locations of the State of Amazonas. The result was the realization that among its many advantages in the execution of education, time is considered the main one, and the loss of deadlines its greatest disadvantage, besides the concept of distance education is already well known by university students. Thus, it is well known that with the passing of time and with the progress of the state's modernization, distance education is gradually becoming the most practical means of teaching.

Palabras clave: Herramientas tecnológicas, universidades, formación, docencia universitaria, proceso de enseñanza – aprendizaje Impact of information technology and communications: a look at higher education  Abstract The article states the need of the creativity that prevails in the current era of knowledge and the importance that technologies constitute in all spheres of life. In field research work it takes as changes take place in this area in Southern State University of Manabí and the Technical University of Babahoyo, Ecuador, where they are taken as an object the process of learning in higher education. The aim of the research was to communicate the impact of Information Technology and Communications in the universities, where the emphasis is on the new role of teachers and their new performance of facilitators of learning in students through the new scenarios mediated by technologies. For the successful development of this research report it was used as a methodology instruments based mainly on referative documents that helped to justify the research problem, which consisted mainly of the impact of new technological devices and their use in the centers of higher learning in the country. It was concluded that information technology and communication are indispensable tools in teaching and at the same time how to intervene in the educational design that lead us to explore new teaching methods in educational settings mediated by these. It was further found that these tools successfully promote the process if there is a good preparation by the teacher.
