At present, there exist a lots of problems in general bean sprout incubators such as uneven spray, water wasting, slow heating, high energy consumption, inaccurate temperature control and so on. To solve these problems, an intelligent bean sprout incubator has been developed based on MSP430 Single Chip Computer. The incubator has advantages of humidity uniformity, water saving, fast heating, low energy consumption, and precise temperature control.

Considering the problems such as long duration of defrosting, low working reliability and high energy consumption of refrigerated containers, this paper put forward a new defrosting method combining air and electro-thermal energy, and designed a new defrosting structure system based on the structural features of refrigeration modules of refrigerated containers. The two-variable method of wind pressure change and temperature difference change on both sides of the evaporator was used to detect frosting, and the specific controlling strategy supporting the new defrosting system was provided to realize the effect of intelligent defrosting. It can provide references for fast defrosting, intelligent defrosting and low energy consumption defrosting of refrigerated containers.

As is well-known, the problem of fresh water has always been a major problem for ocean navigation. The existing marine seawater desalination equipment generally has the disadvantages of large volume, high energy consumption and easy to pollute the environment. Based on this, we proposed a small seawater desalination system based on phase change to enhance heat transfer, which realized low temperature and low energy consumption by using the loop heat pipe technology, a new type of heat sink type spoiler evaporator and an integrated equal-heat plate fin condenser. The device is suitable for islands, fishing boats and other complicated areas where power is scarce and fresh water resources are scarce. It can also be used as fresh water emergency equipment for large ships, saving energy and being portable.

A large number of harmonic is mainly produced by with the discrete variable frequency soft starter. The harmonic during the motor soft starting is characterized by the high energy consumption and signal interference. Therefore, harmonic analyzing and filtering of motor discrete variable frequency soft starter is presented in this paper to achieve low energy consumption and ensure the motor soft starting stably. The following works have been done in the study: introduce the reason of harmonics appearance, analyze the harmonic, and present the filtering approach. The motor soft starter developed with this filtering approach has been successfully applied to filter out harmonic and to improve the starting performance when the motors draw the heavy-loads. It saves energy, stabilize the voltage of the power supply network.

In recent years, high energy consumption has gradually become a prominent problem in a data center. With the advent of cloud computing, computing and storage resources are bringing greater challenges to energy consumption. Virtual machine (VM) initial placement plays an important role in affecting the size of energy consumption. In this paper, we use binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO) algorithm to design a VM placement strategy for low energy consumption measured by proposed energy efficiency fitness, and this strategy needs multiple iterations and updates for VM placement. Finally, the strategy proposed in this paper is compared with other four strategies through simulation experiments. The results show that our strategy for VM placement has better performance in reducing energy consumption than the other four strategies, and it can use less active hosts than others.

With the datum of output, energy consumptions and environment pollutions of 36 industries of HeBei Province during the period of 2005-2007, we first calculated the marginal values of GDP contributions, energy consumptions and environment damages each industry played on the whole provincial economy. Compared with the average values, the industries were further divided into four groups with the method of Four Quadrants, which are the ones of (High-Growth-Contribution, High-Energy-Consumption or High-Pollution), (Low-Growth-Contribution, High-Energy-Consumption or High-Pollution)), (Low-Growth –Contribution , Low-Energy-Consumption or Low-Pollution), (High-Growth–Contribution , Low-Energy-Consumption or Low-Pollution). Based on this division, we put forward the suggestions of structural adjustment for each group of industries in views of sustainable development.

Gas-permeable film can separate air and water, and at the same time, let oxygen diffuse from the air to the water through the film. An oxygen supply method using this film was investigated for the purpose of reducing energy consumption for wastewater treatment. The oxygen transfer rate was measured for the cases with or without biofilm, which proved the high rate of oxygen transfer in the case with nitrifying biofilm which performed nitrification. When the Gas-permeable film with nitrifying biofilm was applied to the treatment of wastewater, denitrifying biofilm formed on the nitrifying biofilm, and simultaneous nitrification and denitrification occurred, resulting in the high rate of organic matter and T-N removal (7 gTOC/m2/d and 4 gT-N/m2/d, respectively). However, periodic sloughing of the denitrifying biofilm was needed to keep the oxygen transfer rate high. Energy consumption of the process using the film in the form of tubes was estimated to be less than 40% of that of the activated sludge process.

Some issues in pharmaceutical therapies such as instability, poor membrane permeability, and bioavailability of drugs can be solved by the design of suitable delivery systems based on the combination of two pillar classes of ingredients: polymers and lipids. At the same time, modern technologies are required to overcome production limitations (low productivity, high energy consumption, expensive setup, long process times) to pass at the industrial level. In this paper, a summary of applications of polymeric and lipid materials combined as nanostructures (hybrid nanocarriers) is reported. Then, recent techniques adopted in the production of hybrid nanoparticles are discussed, highlighting limitations still present that hold back the industrial implementation.
