The water content in the subgrade changes easily as the variation of the environment water, which causes the strength attenuation of the subgrade. It is harmful to the stability of subgrade slope. Strength decay pattern of silt soil in yellow river alluvial plain is studied through the laboratory test. And then the finite element software GEO-SLOPE is used to calculate coefficient of stability under different conditions. Results show strength indexes of silt soil are maximum in the optimal water content, and the change of the water content would cause strength attenuation. The stability of subgrade slope decreases as the strength degradation, while the evolution is different, which is semi-parabolic in the lower subgrade but rectilinear in the higher subgrade. Seismic load leads to stress concentrate at the slope, combined with the strength attenuation the landslide is easily to take place.

Two important parameters of torispherical head that are (interior radius of spherical crown area) and r (interior radius of transition corner) have been optimized by the module of the large general-purpose finite-element software ANSYS, targeting the strength and stability of the head. This paper provides an optimized torispherical head, which improves the stability of the edge of the head with acceptable strength of the head. The procedure is generally applicable as a design tool for optimal design.

In order to study the supporting of deep surrounding rock with zonal disintegration tendency, the zonal disintegration phenomenon of deep surrounding rock under three supporting forms is analyzed by the ABAQUS finite element software in this paper, and three supporting forms are un-supporting, bolting and grouting, and combined “Bolting and grouting plus Anchor rope” supporting. The results show that the different effects to zonal disintegration under different supporting forms will occur. Supporting can help to restrain the zonal disintegration of the reinforcement part advantageously, and also lower rupture degree of zonal disintegration and reduce the size of rupture zone. Meanwhile, the stability of surrounding rock is improved. But zonal disintegration may occur outside reinforcement part under greater ground stress. The results are great importance to a better understanding of the deep roadway supporting.

The Intercontinental Shanghai Wonderland is the first natural ecological hotel built in an abandoned mine in the world, which faces many difficulties in the construction process. To solve the difficult problems in the construction process, the study was carried out from the stability analysis of the deep pit cliff, the mechanical performance of the structure, and the construction technology. The Intercontinental Shanghai Wonderland is built around the abandoned deep pit cliffs, and the stability of the deep pit cliffs directly affects the safety of the building. The dynamic response characteristics and the instability characteristics of the mine slope under the dynamic response were analyzed by a three-dimensional dynamic finite element method. The calculation results showed that with effective anchoring support measures, the stability coefficient of slope under static load and small earthquakes was large, which had a certain safety margin. Under the action of large earthquakes, the slope could still meet the stability requirements. The structure of the Intercontinental Shanghai Wonderland is a unique two-point support structure system. It shows the deformation and stress characteristics of one fixed end and one simply supported end under horizontal load. The elastic-plastic time history response of structures under actions of rare earthquakes was analyzed through the finite element analysis software. The analysis results show that the current structural system along with the design of component size and strength can meet the seismic performance of the structure under actions of rare earthquakes. The Intercontinental Shanghai Wonderland was built in a stone pit 88 m below the surface. Therefore, the transportation of materials was a difficulty in the construction process. A set of ultradeep concrete downward conveying equipment was invented to solve the difficulty. The construction process of the whole structure was simulated by finite element software, which provided a safety guarantee for the construction of the whole structure.

This paper presents the results of a study on a joint slope deformation affecting the western slope of the GuangYang highway (YangQuan, China). Fieldwork identified the ongoing deformational process and assisted in defining its mechanisms, evolution and controlling factors. Here we discuss how to use limit equilibrium methods to calculate the behavior of slopes and to use the finite element analysis to evaluate the stability, displacements of slopes and soil-slope stabilization interaction. The finite element method with shear strength reduction (SSR) technique is explained in Phase2D. This method is effective for the prediction of the stability of slope. Based on numerical comparisons between the limit equilibrium methods and finite element method, it is suggested that the finite element method with SSR technique is a reliable and maybe unique approach to evaluate the slope stability. The paper also took into account effectiveness of the large rain and seismic load. The results of the numerical analysis are consistent with the observed slope surface evidence.

To analyze the characteristics of bearing capacity of high-cap pile foundation under inclined load and investigate the influence of vertical and horizontal component on the foundation at different loading angles, based on the background of the Yellow River Crossing project, a three-dimensional finite element model of high-cap foundation is simulated and analyzed with the finite element software ABAQUS. The conclusions are shown as follows: Under the same displacement condition, when the load inclination angle α from 0°(horizontal load) to 80°, the horizontal direction bearing capacity of the foundation increases from 684.8kN to 759.9kN, increases by 10.97%. Expands of vertical load component will affect the pile group effect, the shear force of the back row piles increases with the load inclined angle.

Firstly, based on the theory of state-vector equation, the semi-analysis finite element formulation for the stability of the plates under various boundary conditions was derived by modified Hellinger-Reissner (H-R) variation principle for the elastic material. Secondly, the three-dimensional models for the stability of stiffened plates were established. The semi-analytical solution of state equation for the stability of stiffened plates are proved to be efficient and accurate by comparing with the exact solutions of references and the numerical solutions of the finite element software through several examples.

Stability and stress analyses are the most important elements that require rigorous consideration in design of a dam structure. In the current research, dynamic structural stability of a roller-compacted-concrete (RCC) dam was performed. The RCC dam was modeled using the finite element method to investigate the stability against sliding and the structural stability of the body of the dam. The commercially available finite element software (SAP 2000) was used to analyze stresses in the body of the dam and foundation. A linear finite element dynamic analysis was performed. Response spectrum and time history methods were used with different earthquake loads. The response spectrum of the 1995 Aqaba earthquake and a representative elastic-spectrum with smooth plateau for both Operating Basis Earthquake (OBE) and Maximum Credible Earthquake (MCE) were used in this study. The analysis was carried out assuming that no slip will occur at the interface between the dam and the foundation. The greatest tension was found to develop in the rock adjacent to the toe of the upstream slope. The factor of safety against sliding along the entire base of the dam was found to be greater than 1 (FS>1), for both loading conditions.

The upper part of Caofeidian coal storage was approximately hemispherical aluminum shell, covered with aluminum alloys plate. The capsule was made of aluminum alloys material, and its span was 125 meters. In the design, according to TEMCOR joint, we used the finite element software MIDAS to build the accurate geometry models and calculation models of aluminum alloys single layer latticed dome structures. By the combination of constant loads, live loads, snow load, wind load, temperature effect and other working conditions, we summarized the consumption of aluminum of the structures, and studied the structural internal force, structural deformation and structural stiffness. In addition, the X and Y two different direction seismic dynamic load was applied to the structure. The structural seismic performance under two kinds of modes were studied through the structure mode analysis of the vibration frequency. The vierendeel dome and single layer dome were controlled by the stability. ANSYS three-dimensional frame element model were set up, and the eigenvalue buckling analysis was carried out. By the geometrical nonlinear finite element method, combining with initial imperfections and material nonlinear, we found out the stability coefficient and the weak parts of the structure.
