To analyze the characteristics of bearing capacity of high-cap pile foundation under inclined load and investigate the influence of vertical and horizontal component on the foundation at different loading angles, based on the background of the Yellow River Crossing project, a three-dimensional finite element model of high-cap foundation is simulated and analyzed with the finite element software ABAQUS. The conclusions are shown as follows: Under the same displacement condition, when the load inclination angle α from 0°(horizontal load) to 80°, the horizontal direction bearing capacity of the foundation increases from 684.8kN to 759.9kN, increases by 10.97%. Expands of vertical load component will affect the pile group effect, the shear force of the back row piles increases with the load inclined angle.

Types of tapered piles are widely applied in tank foundation consolidation, but their inherent deficiencies in design and construction limit their further promotion. Vortex compression pile is a novel nodular pile. Compared with the traditional equal-section pile, vortex compression nodular pile is featured by stronger bearing capacity and slighter settlement. In this paper, the model test results showed that vortex compression nodular pile can greatly improve the bearing capacity and reduce the settlement. Through the finite element software ABAQUS analysis the bearing characteristics of equal-section pile foundation and vortex-compression nodular pile foundation were compared. The three-dimensional solid model was established by ABAQUS finite element software. The impact of cushion modulus, cushion thickness, vertical load, pile modulus, soil modulus around the pile on the bearing capacity of the vortex-compression nodular pile foundation were studied.

In port crane industry, the surface hardening technique is widely used in order to improve the strength of wheel. But the hardening depth is chosen only by according to the experience, and the effect of different hardened depths is not studied theoretically. In this paper, the contact stresses in wheel with different hardening depth have been analyzed by applying three-dimensional finite element model. Based on this model, the ANSYS10.0 finite element software is used. The elastic wheel is used to verify the numerical results with the Hertz’s theory. Three different hardening depths, namely 10mm, 25mm and whole hardened wheel, under three different vertical loads were applied. The effect of hardening depth of a surface hardened wheel is discussed by comparing the contact stresses and contact areas from the numerical results.

The seismic analysis on reactor structure was performed with a new generation of finite element software. The amount of freedom degree of the model was more than twenty millions. The typical responses to operational basis earthquake excitation were given. They are larger than those with two-dimensional simplified finite element method, and the reasons of this phenomenon were analyzed. The feasibility of seismic analysis on large-scale three-dimensional finite element model under existing hardware condition was demonstrated, so some technological reserves for dynamic analysis on complicated equipments or systems in nuclear engineering are provided.

For flexible pipelines, the influence of backfill compaction on the deformation of the pipe has always been the focus of researchers. Through the finite element software, a three-dimensional soil model matching the exterior wall corrugation of the high-density polyethylene pipe was skillfully established, and the “real” finite element model of pipe-soil interaction verified the accuracy through field test. Based on the model, the strain distribution at any position of the buried HDPE pipe can be obtained. Changing the location and extent of the loose backfill, the strain and radial displacement distributions of the interior and exterior walls of the HDPE pipe under different backfill conditions when external load applied to the foundation were analyzed, and the dangerous parts of the pipe where local buckling and fracture may occur were identified. It is pointed out that when the backfill is loose, near the interface between the backfill loose region and the well-compacted region, the maximum circumferential strain occurs frequently, the exterior wall strain is more likely to increase greatly on the region near crown or invert, the interior wall strains increase in amplitude at springline, and the location of the loose region has a greater influence on the strain of the pipe than the size of the loose area.

In recent years, the self-elevating derrick substructure which with the characteristics of easy to install、remove and transfer are gradually replacing layer box, box block substructure, etc. The three-dimensional finite element model of the MXD-701 jack-up derrick and substructure, which is used to analyze static properties of the petroleum substructure under the six different working loads are built by the ANSYS finite element software. Meanwhile, the wireless structural testing system(STS-WiFi)is testing at the MXD-701 petroleum substructure. Then comparing of the model results and testing results. Analysis results indicate that the stress of the substructure at the two beam table is greatest, the stress of the upper part of the guy column is much greater, and others are low, but in general, the overall substructure can fit the requirements of the strength and intensity. The compared results can accurately reflect the project structure of the stress and strain. Then, we can get the capacity of the substructure in order to provide evidence to the security situation of the substructure. It will have great significance to enrich and develop the mast base design and safety assessment theory.

In this paper, in order to understand fully the development of failure mechanism, bearing capacity and seismic performance of the steel H-beams and composite concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) column joints strengthened by outside strengthening ring, in the space zone the effects of changing the axial compression ratio is investigated. A 3D joint finite element model is built up by finite element software ABAQUS, the elastic-plastic finite element analysis is carried through numerical modeling process. The analysis results showed that low axial compression ratio has a little influence on the bearing capacity; with the increase of axial pressure the bearing capacity will decrease in a high axial compression ratio, moreover the failure pattern of joint changes from beam end to column end. The ductility of the specimens is decreased by raising axial compression ratio.

In order to use finite element software to complete the design or calculation of bridge multi-pile foundation, this paper discusses the finite element model (FEM) of a bridge multi-pile based on the theory and provisions in Code for Design of Ground Base and Foundation of Highway Bridges and Culverts (CDGBFHBC 2007) of china. For the FEM of a bridge-multi pile foundation, cap is regarded as a rigid body, piles are taken as beams, and boundary constraints are a series of horizontal springs and vertical springs. First, the formula of stiffness for horizontal springs and bottom vertical spring is derived according to elastic ground base theory and winkler hypotheses. Secondly, for the friction pile, the stiffness of vertical springs on piles side is derived basis of the principle of friction generated and simplified distribution of pile shaft resistance. Then, the FEM of multi-pile needs pay attention to three issues: the simulation of connections between piles and cap, elastic modulus needs discount, and the weight for pile underneath the ground line (or local scour line) needs calculate by half. Taking pile section bending moment often control the design and calculation of pile into account, this paper gives a simplified FEM of pile. Finally, an example is used to introduce the application of the FEM of bridge multi-pile foundation.

Three-dimensional finite element model of Yingwuzhou Yangtze river bridge was established by using the finite element software ANSYS. Since the characteristics of bridge fire differed much from that of buildings, Heating curve HCincwas selected as heating curve caused by tanker fire. Heat loading was imposed on the middle of main span where the tanker fire had taken place of three-tower and four-span suspension bridge . The temperature field and stress, modulus of elasticity, strength of sling changing with time caused by tanker burning in midspan were systematically investigated to obtain the failure time of the sling. The calculation also compared the above results of HCinccurve with that of ISO834 curve. This research can provide some references to fire risk prevention measures of bridge during its service life.

The upper part of Caofeidian coal storage was approximately hemispherical aluminum shell, covered with aluminum alloys plate. The capsule was made of aluminum alloys material, and its span was 125 meters. In the design, according to TEMCOR joint, we used the finite element software MIDAS to build the accurate geometry models and calculation models of aluminum alloys single layer latticed dome structures. By the combination of constant loads, live loads, snow load, wind load, temperature effect and other working conditions, we summarized the consumption of aluminum of the structures, and studied the structural internal force, structural deformation and structural stiffness. In addition, the X and Y two different direction seismic dynamic load was applied to the structure. The structural seismic performance under two kinds of modes were studied through the structure mode analysis of the vibration frequency. The vierendeel dome and single layer dome were controlled by the stability. ANSYS three-dimensional frame element model were set up, and the eigenvalue buckling analysis was carried out. By the geometrical nonlinear finite element method, combining with initial imperfections and material nonlinear, we found out the stability coefficient and the weak parts of the structure.

This paper investigates the effect of deficiencies in the tunnel crown thickness on pressure tunnels with the posttensioned concrete lining. Based on the lining parameters of the Yellow River Crossing Tunnel, the modeling approach of the posttensioned concrete lining is introduced in detail and a three-dimensional finite element model is established. The three-dimensional finite element model is validated by experimental results from the full-scale model experiment of the Yellow River Crossing Tunnel. Special attention is given to the changes in the deformation, radial displacement, and circumferential stress of the posttensioned concrete lining with gradual decreases in the tunnel crown thickness. The calculation results show that the influence scopes of deficiencies in the tunnel crown thickness are mainly concentrated in the crown and its adjacent parts. The posttensioned concrete lining can still maintain a satisfactory stress state when deficiencies in the tunnel crown thickness exist, and undesirable stress levels may be caused only when the tunnel crown thickness decreases below a certain threshold. Furthermore, cracks are most likely to occur at the external and internal surfaces of the crown and at the internal surface of the crown’s adjacent parts, which is useful for taking measurements regarding the lining tightness and stability.
