Exploration of deep-rock mechanics has a significant influence on the techniques of mining and rock mechanics. Rock coring technique is the basic method for all rock mechanics study. With the increase of the drilling depth and increasing strength of the hard rock, how to obtain high-quality rock core through various coring techniques is an eternal work. Here an innovative method is applied to design the new coring system to maximize the efficiency of operation. The stress conditions or parameters of rock core in the coring are analyzed, and the mechanism of the core with in situ stress is shown in this paper. The conflict of the core and coring tool chamber is proposed for the innovative design. The innovative design method is fulfilled by the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ). An improved coring system for the full-length core with in situ stress was obtained with the solutions of improved coring mechanism, cutting mechanism, and spiral drill pipe.

AbstractDespite the increasing demand to develop cross-disciplinary research projects, designing collaborative research still prove to be difficult due to both scientific specialization and organizational issues. In this paper, we explore how innovative design dynamics can be developed between researchers to collectively build research projects that could become common purposes for collaboration. This work relies on a case study led with the newly formed Eco&Phy research team, who applied an innovative design process to initiate collaboration and design its scientific agenda for the next 5 years. This process was built based on both KCP and matching-building methodologies: it included an initialization phase, during which the team strategically chose topics to be explored, and exploration phases, during which researchers collectively developed new knowledge and concepts to build cross-disciplinary projects. At the end of the design process, the team had developed two new research lines that were integrated in its official agenda. In conclusion, the article discusses the relevance of design approaches to develop original collaborative research through dedicated innovation processes.

The car has been invented for more than a century. In the 21st century, new cars will realize the function of land and sky bidirectional driving. The author designed a flying concept car, powered by a wheel jet engine, named Dunhuang Feitian. He won the second prize in the Second China University Art Competition. The car is equipped with a “turbine ram engine” inside the four hubs. The aerodynamic layout is designed in a cross shape. The wheel engine jets downwards, which can flexibly adjust the flight attitude. The author did not sacrifice industrial design aesthetics in order to highlight flight performance. He borrowed the beautiful curve contours of Dunhuang Feitian in the body design, designed the car to be streamlined, and equipped with a four-axis stabilization system in safety configuration. performance. In addition, this article also predicts the future development of automobiles, and provides comfortable, environmentally friendly, green solutions to alleviate the increasingly serious traffic congestion problems, and has a broad application prospect.

There is an increasing demand for predicting the dynamic behaviours of carrier-based aircrafts(CBAs) during catapult launch. This paper presents a maximal parameterised dynamic model of the launch process from a new perspective, and conducts a detailed study of its mechanical behaviours. Based on the topological analysis of the multi-body catapult launch system, the natural coordinate method is adopted to establish a comprehensive model including steam catapult, landing gears, ship motion, aerodynamic and multi-body modules. The predictive capability of the model is demonstrated by presenting the CBA launch dynamic properties under different conditions. First, effects of steam flow area rate and the coupling carrier movement in different directions on catapult performance are discussed. Second, the take-off characteristics as well as the initial catapult attitude are analysed. Then, by investigating Lagrange multipliers, the loads of torque arms, holdback bar and launch bar are compared. Finally, the loads of buffer struts and tyres during launch are also discussed. The results show that it is reasonable to keep the steam flow area increasing in a linear way, but the opening velocity needs to be strictly controlled. When the CBA departs from the deck, the possible sink of the bow is the major threat to the take-off safety, the larger the sink is, the more dangerous the flight becomes. The upwash at the bow may be the primary reason of stall and cannot be ignored. The model established is reliable with capacities of capturing the coupled behaviours between different sub-modules as well as the load change of each component in detail. The natural coordinate method proves to be efficient and accurate, which should be given more attention.

This paper discusses the conceptual design of spherical joints in space structures. Known spherical joints were analyzed and six innovative shaping concepts identified. The analysis revealed general tendencies in the shaping of spherical joints over a period of more than 15 years. Also, a surprising “human innovation limit”, supposedly related to the limits of “human working memory”, was observed. A formal typology of spherical joints is proposed and discussed in the context of innovative design. Three different approaches are considered: traditional, trial-and-error, and application of a computer-oriented innovative design method called Stochastic Form Optimization, and utilization of learning expert system shells for conceptual design.
