Hydroxyl terminated lactic acid prepolymer was synthesized with poly ethylene glycol (PEG).The malaya acid anhydride modified PLA by fuse polymerization, and the different technological conditions (temperature, reaction time and so on) were discussed by the orthogonal design approach. The result of the orthogonal test indicated that, the product molecular weight had enhanced greatly with the Malaya acid anhydride and the PLEG mass ratio 1:15, at 130°C for 15h. The products were characterized by DSC, IR and SEM, Mechanics performance and water affinity performance of the products was determined, and the degradation behavior in vitro simulated bioenvironmental condition was studied. Mechanics performance was improved, and the good water affinity performance biodegradability was maintained.

Resveratrol (RSV), naturally found in plants, is known to have health benefits and has been proposed as a potential anticancer and cardioprotective drug. However, due to its molecular structure, it undergoes rapid metabolism in the body resulting in low bioavailability. Novel polymeric methoxy-poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(ε-caprolactone) (mPEG-PCL) RSV conjugates with varying PCL chain lengths have been synthesised and formulated into micelles and/or nanoparticles for preliminaryin vitrostability studies. RSV conjugated with mPEG2000-PCL9500 was found to have improved solubility and stability of RSV as compared to RSV alone. The length of the PCL chain was found to affect the micelle formation, hence the stability in physiological buffers and rat plasma.

This study involves the synthesis of hydroxyapatite and describes the preparation and characterization of polymer coatings based on poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate and poly(ethylene glycol) and modified with bovine serum albumin and hydroxyapatite. Hydroxyapatite was obtained by wet chemical synthesis and characterized by X-ray diffraction and FTIR spectroscopy, and its Ca/P molar ratio was determined (1.69 ± 0.08). The ceramic and bovine serum albumin were used in the preparation of composite materials with the polymeric matrix. The chemical composition of coatings was characterized with FTIR spectroscopy, and their morphology was recorded with SEM imaging. Moreover, the measurements of surface roughness parameters and stereometric research were performed. The prepared coatings were subjected to in vitro studies in simulated body fluid and artificial saliva. Changes in chemical composition and morphology after immersion were examined with FTIR spectroscopy and SEM imaging. Based on the conducted research, it can be stated that applied modifiers promote the biomineralization process. The roughness analysis confirmed prepared materials were characterized by the micrometer-scale topography. The materials morphology and roughness, and the morphology of the newly formed apatite deposit, were dependent on the type of the used modifier, and the artificial fluid used in in vitro studies.

In this study, bentonite/polyacrylamide hybrid hydrogels were prepared via free radical polymerization of acrylamide (AM) with photocurable poly (ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) as cross-linkers under UV irradiation. The structure of the hydrogels was characterized by FTIR, DTA techniques. Both single factor and orthogonal design experiments were adopted to investigate the swelling kinetics of the hydrogels. The effect of AM, PEGDMA, bentonite, photoinitiator on the swelling ratios was studied in detail. The as-prepared hydrogels could find a lot of applications in biomaterials.
