In this paper, a micro three-dimensional wireless power receiving coil is designed and powered by a set up wireless energy transmission system. Energy receiving performances of the receiving coil is studied. By experiments, coupling coefficients between the transmitting coil and each winding of the receiving coil are caculated at different attitudes. The experimental results confirm that the receiving coil can receive energy from three orientations and three orthometric windings can compensate each other effectively at different attitudes. Then a micro rectifier and regulator circuit are designed and fabricated which is used for a self-made camera system. Based on this, the actual output voltage is measured. The experimental results verify that the efficiency and stability of the three-dimensional receiving system can meet practical application.

The free-positioning wireless power transfer (WPT) system has drawn attention in recent years. Traditionally, a WPT system can transfer energy in one or two directions on the same plane, but it leads the restrictions of angle and axis misalignment between a transmitter and a receiver coil. In this paper, we propose a free-positioning WPT system using a three-dimensional cubic-shaped transmitting coil for portable device charging. A small receiving coil is placed inside the transmitter to achieve the transferred energy through the magnetic resonant coupling. In addition, the equivalent circuit and the mutual inductance between the Tx and Rx coils are analyzed. Finally, a practical experiment is implemented to verify the transfer performance, which can reach up to about 50% power transfer efficiency. The proposed system can charge in spatial freedom.

The three dimensional (3D) coupling model is set up for analyzing the energy reflection and absorption on the kerf using ray tracing method after the laser beam cutting nonmetallic materials with high absorptance through multiple reflections. The laser beam characterized by focused gauss beam and fresnel absorption on the kerf are taken into account. The influences of the polarization on the absorbed intensity both in the front and the two walls are also discussed. Results indicate the differences of absorptive intensity among the three polarized lights are relatively small compared to metal. Thus, the polarization has little effects on the kerf of nonmetallic materials with high absorptance. The experimental results also agree well with the theoretical analysis.

This paper evaluates the influence of target location on robot repeatability. An experiment was set up to analyze the effect of the three-dimensional target location on robot repeatability. An error-analysis model to determine repeatability based on the robot's kinematic model and known robot parameters was developed. Experimental results indicated that there was a significant statistical difference between repeatability at different locations in the workspace and that the height of the target point influenced repeatability. Experimental results tended to those derived from the error-analysis kinematic model. Hence, to determine the optimal target location, there is no need for extensive experimentation; instead, only a few target points can be sampled and compared to an error-analysis model.

The main goal of this paper is to present a three-dimensional (3D) antenna array to improve the performance of wireless power transmission (WPT) systems, as well as its characterization with over-the-air (OTA) multi-sine techniques. The 3D antenna consists of 15 antenna elements attached to an alternative 3D structure, allowing energy to be transmitted to all azimuth directions at different elevation angles without moving. The OTA multi-sine characterization technique was first utilized to identify issues in antenna arrays. However, in this work, the technique is used to identify which elements of the 3D antenna should operate to transmit the energy in a specific direction. Besides, the 3D antenna design description and its characterization are performed to authenticate its operation. Since 3D antennas are an advantage in WPT applications, the antenna is evaluated in a real WPT scenario to power an RF–DC converter, and experimental results are presented.

A wireless charging pad for drones based on resonant magnetic technology to recharge the internal battery is presented. The goal of the study was to design a robust, reliable and efficient charging station where a drone can land to automatically recharge its battery. The components of the wireless power transfer (WPT) system on board the drone must be compact and light in order not to alter the payload of the drone. In this study, the non-planar receiving coil of the WPT system is integrated into the drone’s landing gear while the transmitting pad is designed to be efficient for any landing point and orientation of the drone in the charging pad area. To meet these requirements, power transmission is accomplished by an array of planar coils integrated into the ground base station. The configuration of the WPT coil system, including a three-dimensional receiving coil and a multicoil transmitter, is deeply analyzed to evaluate the performance of the WPT, considering potential lateral misalignment and rotation of the receiving coil due to imprecise drone landing. According to the proposed configuration, the battery of a light drone (2 kg in weight and 0.5 kg in payload) is recharged in less than an hour, with an efficiency always greater than 75%.

Abstract Electromagnetic (EM) sensing is uniquely positioned among nondestructive examination options, which enables us to see clearly targets, even when they visually invisible, and thus has found many valuable applications in science, engineering and military. However, it is suffering from increasingly critical challenges from energy consumption, cost, efficiency, portability, etc., with the rapidly growing demands for the high-quality sensing with three-dimensional high-frame-rate schemes. To address these difficulties, we propose the concept of intelligent EM metasurface camera by the synergetic exploitation of inexpensive programmable metasurfaces with modern machine learning techniques, and establish a Bayesian inference framework for it. Such EM camera introduces the intelligence over the entire sensing chain of data acquisition and processing, and exhibits good performance in terms of the image quality and efficiency, even when it is deployed in highly noisy environment. Selected experimental results in real-world settings are provided to demonstrate that the developed EM metasurface camera enables us to see clearly human behaviors behind a 60 cm-thickness reinforced concrete wall with the frame rate in order of tens of Hz. We expect that the presented strategy could have considerable impacts on sensing and beyond, and open up a promising route toward smart community and beyond.

A real-time mathematical model for three-dimensional tidal flow and water quality is presented in this paper. A control-volume-based difference method and a “power interpolation distribution” advocated by Patankar (1984) have been employed, and a concept of “separating the top-layer water” has been developed to solve the movable boundary problem. The model is unconditionally stable and convergent. Practical application of the model is illustrated by an example for the Pearl River Estuary.

This paper focuses on the effects of the off-design operation of CAES on the dynamic characteristics of the triple-gear-rotor system. A finite element model of the system is set up with unbalanced excitations, torque load excitations, and backlash which lead to variations of tooth contact status. An experiment is carried out to verify the accuracy of the mathematical model. The results show that when the system is subjected to large-scale torque load lifting at a high rotating speed, it has two stages of relatively strong periodicity when the torque load is light, and of chaotic when the torque load is heavy, with the transition between the two states being relatively quick and violent. The analysis of the three-dimensional acceleration spectrum and the meshing force shows that the variation in the meshing state and the fluctuation of the meshing force is the basic reasons for the variation in the system response with the torque load. In addition, the three rotors in the triple-gear-rotor system studied show a strong similarity in the meshing states and meshing force fluctuations, which result in the similarity in the dynamic responses of the three rotors.

In order to process heterotype hole of workpiece precisely, an open abrasive flow polish machine is designed, and the optimization design of machine frame is done for low cost. Firstly, basing on the parameters designed with traditional ways, three-dimensional force model is set up with the soft of SolidWorks. Secondly, the statics and modal analysis for machine body have been done in Finite element methods (FEM), and then the optimization analysis of machine frame has been done. At last, the model of rebuild machine frame has been built. Result shows that the deformation angle value of machine frame increased from 0.72′ to 1.001′, the natural frequency of the machine decreased from 75.549 Hz to 62.262 Hz, the weight of machine decreased by 74.178 Kg after optimization. It meets the strength, stiffness and angel stiffness requirement of machine, reduces the weight and cost of machine.
