The vibration influence on the quality of strip for 2180mm six-high cold tandem rolling mill is discussed. The abnormal frequency of mill is analysis by spot examination. The methods of numerical computation and finite element method simulation by the ANSYS are adopted to set up dynamic model of six-high mill. At the same time, the natural frequency of mill and the response to mill at different excitation is calculated. Comparing the analysis results with the data from the experiment, the finite element models presented in the thesis were proved to be an efficient and valid way to simulate actual working conditions.

Based on the 3D model of refrigeration's compressor by Pro/E software, the analyses of theoretical and experimental mode are carried out in this paper. The results show that the finite element models of compressor have high precision dynamic response characteristics and the natural frequency of the compressor, based on experimental modal analysis, can be accurately obtained, which will contribute to further dynamic designs of mechanical structures.

The problem of medical implants honeycomb structures loading has been stated. The problem was solved using simulation by the finite element method. Simulation revealed that it is possible to change the elastic modulus of the material more than three times with respect to the bulk titanium alloy. The quality of the simulation was estimated based on the convergence of the simulation data.

Powder mixed EDM can effectively improve the surface quality of a machined workpiece. In order to study the mechanism of powder mixed EDM process, particles’ activities in working conditions are simulated and corresponding experiments are done. A 3D electric fields model described by finite element method of the particles suspended in working fluid in the electric field is built, the generated field is computed and presented, and the activities of particles in the breakdown process are analyzed. The results show that this method can serve as a good way to learn the activities of particles in the breakdown of discharge.

In this paper a horizontal vibration problem in strip rolling was studied; dynamic model was established; the mechanism of self-excited vibration was analyzed. The main reason of surface quality of strip is self-excited vibration. A vertical natural frequency and vibration mode of the rolling mill are obtained by finite element method. It lays the theoretic foundation for future researches on rolling mill vibraton.

Abstract The paper describes the intention of the authors to determine whether it is possible to predict relative belt edge endurance for radial passenger car tires using the finite element method. Three groups of tires with different belt edge configurations were tested on a fleet test in an attempt to validate predictions from the finite element results. A two-dimensional, axisymmetric finite element analysis was first used to determine if the results from such an analysis, with emphasis on the shear deformations between the belts, could be used to predict a relative ranking for belt edge endurance. It is shown that such an analysis can lead to erroneous conclusions. A three-dimensional analysis in which tires are modeled under free rotation and static vertical loading was performed next. This approach resulted in an improvement in the quality of the correlations. The differences in the predicted values of various stress analysis parameters for the three belt edge configurations are studied and their implication on predicting belt edge endurance is discussed.

Abstract The paper considers the failure study of concrete structures loaded by the pressure wave due to detonation of an explosive material. In the paper two numerical methods are used and their efficiency and accuracy are compared. There are the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) and the Finite Element Method (FEM). The numerical examples take into account the dynamic behaviour of concrete slab or a structure composed of two concrete slabs subjected to the blast impact coming from one side. The influence of reinforcement in the slab (1, 2 or 3 layers) is also presented and compared with a pure concrete one. The influence of mesh density for FEM and the influence of important parameters in SPH like a smoothing length or a particle distance on the quality of the results are discussed in the paper

In this study, the rapid growth of corrugation caused by the bad quality of grinding works and their wavelength, depth, and evolution processes are captured through field measurements. The residual grinding marks left by poor grinding quality lead to further crack accumulation and corrugation deterioration by decreasing plastic resistance in rails. In this case, the average peak-to-peak values of corrugation grow extremely fast, reaching 1.4 μm per day. The finite element method (FEM) and fracture mechanics methodologies were used to analyze the development and trends in rail surface crack deterioration by considering rails with and without grinding marks. Crack propagation trends increase with residual grinding marks, and they are more severe in circular curve lines. To avoid the rapid deterioration of rail corrugation, intersections between grinding marks and fatigue cracks should be avoided.

AbstractDesigning components is a complex task, which depends on the component function, the raw material, and the production technology. In the case of rotating parts with higher RPM, the creep and orientation are essential material properties. The PLA components made with the material extrusion process are more resistant than VeroWhite (material jetting) and behave similarly to weakly cross-linked elastomers. Also, based on the tensile tests, Young’s modulus shows minimal anisotropy. Multilinear isotropic hardening and modified time hardening models are used to create the finite element model. Based on the measurements, the finite element method simulation was identified. The deformation in the compressor wheel during rotation became definable. It was concluded that the strain of the compressor wheel manufactured with material extrusion technology is not significant.

Big vibration will be cause by train load and crane load in the over-track buildings, and then generate structure-borne moise in the buildings, which will affect the live quality of the people lived in the buildings greatly. Focusing on this proble, three finite element method is established based on a practical engineering. The measures of reducing noise and vibration is proposed according the characteristics of the building, which is to replace the steel column as concrete column. The dynamic responses of the building under the two cases are calculated and analyzed. The computation results show that the measurement can reduced structure vibration significantly, and accordingly, the structure-borne noise is also reduced greatly. The research results in the paper have strong engineering practicability and can provide some references for some other projections in China in future.

Pressure resistant performance of Measure While Drilling (MWD) microchip tracer to withstand the harsh downhole environment is one of the key issues of normal working. Therefore, it is an effective way to analyze pressure resistant performance of the tracer in the design phase. Compressive strength of the tracer was studied based on finite element method. Considering downhole complexity and working conditions during the processing of tracer roundness, material non-uniformity and other factors. In this study, researchers took sub-proportion failure criterion to determine the failure of tracer. Simulation results of two structures, with pin and without pin, show that both structures met the requirement of downhole compressive strength, and the structure with pin was better than the structure without pin. This study provides basis for downhole application of microchip tracers.
