The modeling method of 3-dimensional garment model form is the key for the 3-dimensional garment design system. The modeling method of model form will directly have effects on the complexity and presentation effects of the latter design of garment styles. It is also closely related to the garment 3-dimensional al imitation and simulation as well as the transformation relation between 3-dimension and 2-dimension. Therefore, the modeling method of 3-dimensional garment model form is much worthy to study and has a good application prospect.

Purpose The virtual display of 3D garment is one of the most important features in a computer-aided garment design system. The purpose of this paper is to present a novel web-based 3D virtual display framework for the online design of warp-knitted seamless garment using the latest WebGL and HTML5 technologies. Design/methodology/approach Based on the feature-based parametric 3D human body model, the 3D model of skin-tight warp-knitted seamless garment is established using the geometric modeling method. By applying plane parameterization technology, the 3D garment model is then projected into corresponding 2D prototype pattern and a texture-mapping relationship is obtained. Finally, an online 3D virtual display application framework for warp-knitted seamless garment is implemented on modern WebGL-enabled web browsers using the latest WebGL and HTML5 technologies, which allow garment designers to globally access without installing any additional software or plugin. Findings Based on the 2D/3D model of warp-knitted seamless garment, an online 3D virtual display application running on modern WebGL-enabled web browser is implemented using the latest Javascript, WebGL and HTML5 technologies, which is proven to be an effective way for building the web-based 3D garment CAD systems. Originality/value This paper provides a parametric design method for warp-knitted seamless garment 2D/3D model, and web-based online virtual display of 3D warp-knitted seamless garment is implemented for the first time, which establishes the foundation for the web-based online computer-aided warp-knitted seamless garment design system.

Recently, Korean Government is encouraging to propagate the small hydro-electric power in renewable energy development policy as the “Low CO2 Green Growth” policy. However, turbines in the Korea Water Resources Corporation (below K-water) operated at an average of 10% less than well-designed turbines due to the design weakness or the inferior manufacturing techniques for the small hydropower facilities. Thus, maintenance fees increased because the cavitations had excessively occurred on the main parts of turbines such as the runner, guide vane and Stator, the life cycles of turbines were reduced and the frequency breakdowns were increased. In order to improve the efficiency the CFD-based design system is applied to the Francis turbine replacement project with Korea Fluid Machinery Association (below KFMA) and K-water. Therefore, the inversed design technique and the fully turbulent 3-dimensional flow simulations are performed for both the existing and new turbines at design and off design conditions. As a result, the runner is optimized to the greatest extent with a possible minimum cost under the geometrical constraints of the existing machine. The performances of the new design are verified by extensive model tests and the guarantees have all been successfully met.

The purpose of this paper is the analysis of traffic load on road pavement and it forecasting, in aspect of designing the reconstruction of roads and pavement strengthening. At present modeling method is a method that offers highest level of traffic load forecasting. Preparation of the digital model of road network and traffic load, which take place on it, allows to eliminate many drawbacks of existing methods of forecasting. For accurate predictions of heavy vehicles by model it is necessary to build the best possible knowledge base of traffic load which is present on the existing road network in particularly based on the largest number of measure spots to both classification and pre-selection of weight classes such as WIM-P.

The largest 3-dimensional vibration test facility is planning to build in Hyogo pref. The objectives of this facility are to investigate the process of the collapsing phenomena of a full-scale structure under the earthquake. At the design stage, it’s impossible to make sure the performance without the numerical simulation. Therefore, the mathematical simulation model was accurately constructed, and the simulation was performed. This paper describes as follows. (1) The modeling method of the 3-dimensional vibration test system. (2) The verification of the modeling method based on the measured data by using the prototype test facilities. (3) The verification results based on the condition of a collapsing phenomena of the full-scale building.

Purpose To improve the apparel e-customized system and meet consumers’ personalized requirement in the e-customization, the purpose of this paper is to develop an e-customized co-design system on garment design (ECS-GD) that enables users to co-design garment and communicate with stakeholders. Design/methodology/approach The e-customized co-design system mainly consists of function and modular structure, communication and evaluation modular. Based on the evolutionary algorithm and fuzzy theory, the e-customized system model is proposed with a presentation of garment interface. Based on the parameters of skirts, technical sketches, fabrics, color, patterns, comments and scores, the decision is made by consumers. Findings For the system to be effective, the system was conducted by multi-individuals co-work (consumers, designers, manufacturers and experts). The data flow was congruent to the design knowledge. The expert evaluation and communication were involved in the proposed system. Research limitations/implications The limitation of this study is that the system is not tested in experiments. The model, main function and data flow are proposed in this study, which is important in the e-customized co-design system development. Originality/value Compared to the e-shopping and garment recommendation, the proposed ECS-GD is a good approach to improve the existing e-customized system and a well solution to help consumers with design knowledge recommending, professional suggestions and evaluations. Besides, the sketches and knowledge recommendation are provided to consumers which is a learning process.

A practical modeling method for predicting vibration characteristics of turbine generator stator frames was developed. The structural parts that compose a stator frame were categorized into three groups: parts that affect ring-mode vibration as mass, parts that affect it as stiffness, and parts that affect it as both. A proper boundary condition, the value of a modal damping ratio, and an accurate representation of exciting forces were examined. The modeling method was then applied to another turbine generator. It was found that the predicted natural frequency agrees with measured one within only a 3% error. Based on the modeling method, a vibration analysis system for design was developed.
