Two level zone index system of the provincial highway geotechnical zone was established on the basis of analysis of the relationship between geotechnical elements and highway engineering. The highway rock-soil type conversion rules and the zone standard of two level zone indexes were set through comparative analysis of the characteristics of rock-soil on the engineering geological map. According to the general principles and methods of zone study, the research framework of provincial highway geotechnical zone was constructed. Under the guidance of this framework, Shandong province highway geotechnical zone was completed and the whole research area was divided into 2 grade I and 5 grade II. The results indicate that the new highway geotechnical zone can better reflect the variation of rock-soil engineering properties in Shandong province. The result verifies the scientificalness and effectiveness of the research framework of provincial highway geotechnical zone and provides basic data for research on highway geotechnical zone of nationwide.

In order to strengthen the normalization of the highway hydrology Zoning research work and improve the efficiency of Zoning, the analysis model of slope runoff intensity index was set up. The provincial highway hydrological Zoning index system was built to fully embody the relationship between highway engineering and hydrological factors. The research framework of provincial highway hydrology Zoning was established. The highway hydrology Zoning research framework and Zoning indices was taken as the guidance to divide Shandong province into 2 first-grade highway hydrological regions and 6 highway hydrological subregions which reflect the overall distribution of the highway hydrological conditions in the research region correctly. The corresponding descriptions were given to introduce the highway engineering characteristics of each partition.

Research about Oligo-Miocene limestones in Java has always been interesting to study in order to understand the relationship between tectonic-volcanic, sedimentation, and petroleum potential. The Lengkong limestone formation is interesting to study especially its sedimentology aspects. There is no Scientific Publication about the Lengkong Formation which discusses detailed sedimentology aspects. Those aspects are important to modify the geological map, scale of 1: 50000 which was published by the ministry of energy and mineral resources. This research was conducted to determine the sedimentology process and development of a depositional environment of the Lengkong formation in the Cimapag River. The research area is located in Neglasari, Lengkong District, Sukabumi. The method used includes field surveys and laboratory analysis. A field survey embodies sedimentology data collection and rock sampling, which was then made into a detailed stratigraphic column. Rock samples were analyzed petrographically for 12 samples to determine microfacies. The results cover three limestone facies, namely wackestone, wackestone-packstone, and packstone facies. The sedimentation of the Lengkong Formation indicates a sea-level decrease of the Interbuild Basin Floor to Deep Marine Off reef

AbstractRock aggregates constitute the enormous volume of inert construction material used around the globe. The petrologic description as igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic types establishes the intrinsic formation pattern of the parent rock. The engineering properties of these rocks vary due to the differences in the transformation process (e.g. hydrothermal deposits) and weathering effect. The two most common mechanical tests used to investigate the performance of aggregates are the Los Angeles (LA) and micro-Deval (MD) tests. This study reviewed the geological parameters (including mineralogy, grain and crystal size, grain shape, and porosity) and the relationship to Los Angeles and micro-Deval tests. It was found that high content of primary minerals in rocks (e.g. quartz and feldspar) is a significant parameter for performance evaluation. Traces of secondary and accessory minerals also affect the performance of rocks, although in many cases it is based on the percentage. Furthermore, some studies showed that the effect of mineralogic composition on mechanical strength is not sufficient to draw final conclusions of mechanical performance; therefore, the impact of other textural characteristics should be considered. The disposition of grain size and crystal size (e.g. as result of lithification) showed that rocks composed of fine-grain textural composition of ≤ 1 mm enhanced fragmentation and wear resistance than medium and coarse grained (≥ 1 mm). The effect of grain shape was based on convex and concave shapes and flat and elongated apexes of tested samples. The equidimensional form descriptor of rocks somehow improved resistance to impact from LA than highly flat and elongated particles. Lastly, the distribution of pore space investigated by means of the saturation method mostly showed moderate (R = 0.50) to strong (R = 0.90) and positive correlations to LA and MD tests.

Correlating engineering properties with index properties has assumed greater significance in the recent past in the field of geotechnical engineering. Although attempts have been made in the past to correlate compressibility with various index properties individually, all the properties affecting compressibility behaviour have not been considered together in any single study to examine which index property of the soil correlates best with compressibility behaviour, especially within a set of test results. In the present study, 10 soils covering a sufficiently wide range of liquid limit, plastic limit, and shrinkage limit were selected and conventional consolidation tests were carried out starting with their initial water contents almost equal to their respective liquid limits. The compressibility behaviour is vastly different for pairs of soils having nearly the same liquid limit, but different plasticity characteristics. The relationship between void ratio and consolidation pressure is more closely related to the shrinkage index (shrinkage index = liquid limit - shrinkage limit) than to the plasticity index. Wide variations are seen with the liquid limit. For the soils investigated, the compression index relates better with the shrinkage index than with the plasticity index or liquid limit.Key words: Atterberg limits, classification, clays, compressibility, laboratory tests.

 The influence of moisture content to the strength of wet tropically weathered sandstone of Jurong Formation found in Nusajaya, Johor was studied. The rock materials have been affected by weathering action; hence the alteration of its engineering properties is incontestable due to these effects. A total of 36 samples representing various weathering grades were collected from the field and tested at various moisture content by immersing them in water at different duration of time, ranging from 15, 30 and 60 minutes. Point load tests for the determination of the strength index Is(50) of the rock were then carried out. For weathered sandstone (Grade II to IV), the mean initial moisture content ranges from 0.15% to 11.00% respectively, while the initial mean strength index has maximum and minimum values of 7.76 MPa and 0.38 MPa. The results reveal that there is a significant relationship between the weathering grades, moisture absorption and strength. The moisture absorption is dependent on the amount of clay minerals present in the rock material, which indirectly affects the strength, as observed with the increment of weathering state. In conclusion, this study indicates that sandstone with higher moisture content and increase in weathering grade exhibits lower strength values.

Cell death is a critical biological process, serving many important functions within multicellular organisms. Aberrations in cell death can contribute to the pathology of human diseases. Significant progress made in the research area enormously speeds up our understanding of the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of cell death. According to the distinct morphological and biochemical characteristics, cell death can be triggered by extrinsic or intrinsic apoptosis, regulated necrosis, autophagic cell death, and mitotic catastrophe. Nevertheless, the realization that all of these efforts seek to pursue an effective treatment and cure for the disease has spurred a significant interest in the development of promising biomarkers of cell death to early diagnose disease and accurately predict disease progression and outcome. In this review, we summarize recent knowledge about cell death, survey current and emerging biomarkers of cell death, and discuss the relationship with human diseases.

AbstractWith the development of the electronic commerce, the electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) has become important reference information for consumer shopping. EWOM has attracted considerable interest from researchers in the past decade. In this paper, a research review is conducted and an integrated framework is proposed on the effect of eWOM. The effect of eWOM are influenced by its characteristics, communicators, and other factors. The characteristics of eWOM include the source, the volume and the valence. The communicators of eWOM refer to the sender, the receiver and the relationship between them. In addition, dispersion and consistency, persistence and observability, anonymity and deception, and community engagement are related factors for the effect of eWOM.

There is an abundance of studies on work engagement found in the literature. However, there is a lack of grounded research framework to be based on relating stress to work engagement of Malaysian private academics. Therefore, this study is aimed at 1). reviewing the literature on stress and work engagement; 2). applying the ASSET model of stress to work engagement; 3). hypothesizing the relationships among these variables, and 4). deriving a conceptual framework. Based on the literature review on psychological literature and the application of the ASSET model of stress, the paper proposes a model of the relationship between stress and work engagement through commitment and health. Suggestions for practice and future research are also presented. Keywords— ASSET, Malaysian private academics, stress, work engagement.
