In this study, we demonstrate a method for adjusting the frequency bandwidth of a Superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) mixer device by controlling its thickness after microfabrication. We estimate the relationship between SIS mixer device thickness and frequency bandwidth using electromagnetic (EM) simulation. We propose an optimal method for the precision polishing of the back side of the device. We evaluate the noise temperature and measure the frequency bandwidth of SIS mixer devices with different thicknesses. This study presents the adjustment of the frequency bandwidth of a device through controlling its thickness after microfabrication. This technique may improve the yield of SIS mixer device mass production and support the construction of receivers for ultra-high frequencies such as Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA) Band 10.

The relationship between diabetes and senbsorineural hearing loss has been disputed. This study compares 44 insulin-dependent diabetics with 38 age and sex matched controls. All had pure tone and speech audiometry performed, with any diabetics showing sensorineural deafness undergoing stapedial reflecx decat tests. In 14 diabetics stapedial reflex tests showed no tone decay in any patient, but seven showed evidence of recruitment. Analysis of vaiance showed the diabetics to be significantly deafer than the control population.The hearing loss affected high frequencies in both sexes, but also low frequencies in the male. Speech discrimination scores showed no differences. Further analysis by sex showed the males to account for most of the differences. Analysys of the audiograms showered mostly a high tone loss. Finally duration of disbetes, insulin dosage and family history of diabtes were not found to have a significant effect on threshold.

The narrow and redundant body of the snake robot makes it suitable for the inspection of complex bar structures, such as truss or tree structures. One of the key issues affecting the efficient motion of snake robots in complex bar structures is the development of mechanical models of snake robots on cylinders. In other words, the relationship between the payload and structural and performance parameters of the snake robot is still difficult to clarify. In this paper, the problem is approached with the Newton–Euler equations and the convex optimal method. Firstly, from the kinematic point of view, the optimal attitude of the snake robot wrapped around the cylinder is found. Next, the snake robot is modeled on the cylinder and transformed into a convex optimization problem. Then, the relationship between the payload of the snake robot on the cylinder and the geometric and attitude parameters of the body of snake robots is analyzed. Finally, the discussion for the optimal winding attitude and some advices for the design of the snake robot are proposed. This study is helpful toward the optimal design of snake robots, including geometry parameters and motor determination.

The present study was designed to investigate empirically the relationship between self-reports of nightmare frequency and ego strength and death anxiety in both men and women. In addition, the interrelations among these variables were assessed. 20 undergraduates with high frequencies of nightmares and 20 with low frequencies (10 men and 10 women per group) were administered the Barron Ego Strength Scale and a death anxiety scale. Significant differences were found between nightmare groups on the Barron scale for men and women but none on the death anxiety scale either by nightmare frequency or sex. A significant negative correlation of -.47 between death anxiety and ego strength was found for women and in one high frequency group. Women with high frequencies of nightmares showed the highest correlation, -.83. These data suggest that nightmare frequency may be a mediating factor in the relationship between ego strength, death anxiety, and sex of subject.

This article investigated the relationship between output, money and interest rate, using wavelet tools for the period 1972–2017. Application of such tools is helpful in answering particularly two questions: first, what the strength and direction of the causal relationships between money, output and interest rate is, and second, whether the relationship is cyclical or anti-cyclical in nature. Findings from this article show that output and money are highly coherent in low, middle and high frequencies, and coherence increases while controlling for interest rate, with money growth as the leading variable most of the time across frequencies. Output and interest rate are equally highly coherent, mostly at high frequency and some bits of middle frequency; coherence increases with the control for money, and interest rate often times leads the relationship. Also, money and interest rate are coherent at low, middle and high frequencies with interest rate leading the relationship, and controlling the effect of output increases the coherence at some times and decreases at other times. There are observable evidences of both cyclical and anti-cyclical relationships among the variables. Policy decisions should be cautious of shortrun moves in order not to trigger undesired long-run outcomes since no difference is observed in the direction of causation over time–frequency. In eight tracheotomized adult rabbits placed in the supine position, we employed a catheter-tip piezoresistive pressure transducer to measure esophageal pressure (Pes) and assessed the validity of taking the changes in Pes to be the changes in pleural pressure (Ppl). We applied an occlusion test in which the tracheal cannula was occluded during either spontaneous inspiratory efforts or body surface oscillations ranging from 3 to 50 Hz. The relationship between Pes and airway opening pressure (Pao) was recorded. In all instances, the changes in Pes and Pao were virtually identical in both amplitude and phase. We conclude that, as evaluated by the occlusion test, a catheter-tip pressure transducer placed in the esophagus of rabbits can give adequate estimation of local pleural changes up to at least 50 Hz.

Embedded giant magnetostrictive actuator (EGMA) is one of the most important applications of magnetostrictive material. Giant magnetostrictive actuators can deliver big-output displacement and can be driven at high frequencies. These characteristics make them suitable for a variety of positioning. However, because of the limitation of structure, the drive coil and EGMA cannot be any size as needed, so how to maximize the displacement in the limitative situation by optimization becomes the key of design. Several methods are available in the literature, but the coupling drive magnetic field of EGMA and its matrix material is often ignored. In fact, there was a close relationship between the matrix material and the distribution of drive magnetic field. To analyze the relationship, this paper establishes the magnetic circuit model for EGMA. The simulation of the coupling drive magnetic field is also presented. Finally the assumption is validated through experimental tests carried out with two different matrix materials.

The relationship between the working class and consumer culture is undoubtedly contentious and often held as problematic in Marxist critical theory, owing to the exploitative nature of the mass production that facilitates consumption. Consequently, consumption sometimes appears as a distraction from the inequality perpetuated during the accumulation of capital, and thus as a social problem with normative undertones. As I reiterate in this article, however, workers are not simultaneously consumers because they have been inundated with consumer culture and advertising, but because they are separated from the means of production and must resort to exchange to reproduce their labour-power. As a result, they seek commodities as use-values, which is altogether different from a capitalist’s desire to realise exchange-value in the sale of commodities. This article is an attempt at examining the contradictions that arise in working-class interests in consumption, in order to illustrate why the act of consumption does not necessarily engender the continuous reproduction of capital, and thus of exploitation.

Explore the relationship between chemical components of complex prescription and blood flow of the ileus rats, and predict the best compatibility. Method: first of all, experimental design. with reference to the original formula, the herbal medicines in a prescription include Rhubarb, Mangnolia officinalis, immature bitter orange, mirabilite designed nine formula based on Mixing uniform design, obtain chemical components of complex prescription and intestinal blood flow data; Secondly, explore important variables and interaction affect the information; The third, mathematical modelling. Finally, the target optimization. Results: there are interactions in the chemical components of complex prescription, and have the best compatibility. Conclusion: conjunctive use correlation analysis, partial correlation analysis, orthogonal partial least square analysis, Partial least-squares Regression, Optimal Method to study the compatibility of the dachengqi decoction is feasible and effective.

The firing rate of individual neurons depends on the firing frequency of their distributed synaptic inputs, with linear and nonlinear relations subserving different computational functions. This letter explores the relationship between the degree of synchrony among excitatory synapses and the linearity of the response using detailed compartmental models of cortical pyramidal cells. Synchronous input resulted in a linear input-output relationship, while asynchronous stimulation yielded sub- and supraproportional outputs at low and high frequencies, respectively. The dependence of input-output linearity on synchrony was sigmoidal and considerably robust with respect to dendritic location, stimulus irregularity, and alteration of active and synaptic properties. Moreover, synchrony affected firing rate differently at lower and higher input frequencies. A reduced integrate-and-fire model suggested a mechanism explaining these results based on spatiotemporal integration, with fundamental implications relating synchrony to memory encoding.
