The article presents the investigation results of the structure and properties of rods of aluminum alloys containing zirconium, cerium and lanthanum after ingotless rolling-extruding (IRE) and heat treatment. The patterns of changes in the microstructure, mechanical properties, electrical resistivity depending on the chemical composition of the alloys, processed by the IRE method and various modes of rods annealing are shown. A metallographic analysis of the grain structure of the samples in a deformed state and after annealing performed. The temperatures at which the alloy structure remains stable and maintains the level of operational properties revealed. The effect of chemical composition on the heat resistance of deformed semi-finished products represented. The study made it possible to evaluate the level of properties of experimental alloys after processing by the method of ingotless rolling-extruding and various modes of rods annealing.

This study presents experimental results of structural analysis, such as phase composition, grains size assessment, strength and hardness of Ni-SPAN-C alloy 902 after various heat treatment modes (hardening and aging for stress relaxation). A thermal treatment mode has been selected to obtain higher physical and mechanical properties of the elinvar alloy. It is shown that the improvement of the alloy structure in thermal treatment occurs due to the thermic stresses, as well as the formation and dissolution of intermetallides.

The influence of thermal and aerothermoacoustic treatments on the structure and mechanical properties of БрНХК bronze is considered. An increase in the strength and elasticity of the alloy is established by optimizing the thermal and aerothermoacoustic modes. The influence of the pre-aging treatment, the aging and aerothermoacoustic modes on the structure, the possibility of an additional increase in the mechanical properties of wire from БрНХК after aerothermoacoustic treatment are shown. New medium Mn steels for forged components, in combination with a new heat treatment, are presented. This new annealing process implies air-cooling after forging and austenite reversion tempering (AC + ART). This leads to energy saving compared to other heat treatments, like quenching and tempering (Q + T) or quenching and partitioning (Q + P). Furthermore, the temperature control of AC + ART is easy, which increases the applicability to forged products with large diameters. Laboratory melts distinguished by Ti, B, Mo contents have been casted and consecutively forged into semi-finished products. Mechanical properties and microstructure have been characterized for the AC and the AC + ART states. The as forged-state shows YS from 900 MPa to 1000 MPa, UTS from 1350 MPa to 1500 MPa and impact toughness from 15 J to 25 J. Through the formation of nanostructured retained metastable austenite an increase in impact toughness was achieved with values from 80 J to 100 J dependent on the chemical composition.

The main aim of this paper is to present an environmentally friendly method for aluminum recycling. Development of new recycling technologies in order to increase scrap reuse potential and CO2 emission savings are of the main importance for aluminum circular economy. In this paper, aluminum chips waste was recycled without any remelting phase in order to increase energy and material savings. The presented process is usually called solid state recycling or direct recycling. Solid state recycling process consists of chips cleaning, cold pre-compaction and hot direct extrusion followed by a combination of equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) and heat treatment. Influence of holding time during solid solution treatment and both artificial aging time and temperature on mechanical properties of the recycled EN AW 6082 aluminum chips were investigated. A comprehensive number of the experiments were performed utilizing design of experiments approach and response surface methodology. Regression models were developed for describe the influence of heat treatment parameters for presented solid state recycling process on mechanical properties of the recycled samples. Utilizing novel procedure high quality recycled samples were obtained with mechanical properties comparable with commercially produced EN AW 6082 aluminum alloy in T6 temper condition. Metallographic analysis of the recycled samples was also performed.

Purpose: Assessment of the possibilities of shaping the structure and improvement of mechanical properties of casting from AlMg10 alloy through a selection of casting technology and precipitation hardening. Design/methodology/approach: the work evaluated the impact of casting and heat treatment technology on the mechanical properties and structure of AlMg10 alloy castings. The tests were performed on 200 mm × 100 mm × 25 mm plate castings produced by gravity casting methods for sand and metal moulds and by a liquid state press moulding technology. Castings made with these technologies solidify in substantially different heat- evaporation conditions and exhibit varying degrees of primary structure fragmentation. Metallographic and strength tests were performed on raw castings and after heat treatment. Findings: The changes in the morphology and size of primary crystals and the dispersion of the reinforcing phase according to the casting solidification rate and the precipitation hardening treatment were analyzed. Solidifying castings in the form of sand show a globular structure, whereas in die and press castings, a typically dendritic structure occurs, with the dendritic crystals in pressed castings being much smaller in size than the die castings. In castings which were not heat-treated, the reinforcing phase of Al3Mg2 occurs in interdendritic spaces, and its dispersion increases with the rate of cooling. After supersaturation and ageing treatments, the phase α has a grain structure in all samples. The largest dispersion of reinforcing molecules is characterized by press castings. In a raw state, the highest mechanical properties are shown by castings made in the form of sand and the method of pressing in a liquid state. Heat treatment of AlMg10 alloy castings significantly influences the increase of mechanical indexes in all castings investigated. The highest features of Rm are approx. 330 MPa and A5 above 10% is obtained in castings made by the press method. Research limitations/implications: Particular attention should be paid to the avoidance of the effects of slag inclusion, shrinkage and magnesium oxidation during casting of AlMg10 alloys. In die castings of a plate type, due to own stresses, a significant decrease in mechanical properties occurs. Practical implications: The most advantageous mechanical properties of AlMg10 alloy castings are obtained by using liquid-state pressing technology. In addition, this technology makes it possible to produce thin-walled castings of high dimensional accuracy, high air- tightness, fine grain structure, lack of surface defects and low roughness. Originality/value: The paper presents the possibility of improving the mechanical properties of AlMg10 castings by applying heat treatment. It has been proven that the casting method has a significant effect on the mechanical properties of the castings.

The article presents the change in mechanical properties of AlZn9Mg2.5Cu1.8 alloy resulting from the process of solution heat treatment and aging. The heat treatment was performed on a unique UMSA (Universal Metallurgical Simulator and Analyzer) device. The aim of the study was to determine optimum heat treatment parameters for the tested alloy of ultrafine grain structure obtained by Rapid Solidification (RS). To achieve this purpose, heat treatment to the T4 and T6 condition was carried out. The solution heat treatment was carried out at a constant temperature of 460 °C for 2 hours, while the time - temperature parameters of the aging process varied. The treatment undertaken resulted in improved mechanical properties.

In this paper there is presented the structure and proprieties of the modeling cast magnesium alloys as cast state and after heat treatment, depending on the cooling medium (furnace, water, air), with different chemical composition. The improvement of the manufacturing technique and chemical composition as well as of heat treatment and cooling methods leads to the development of a material designing process for the optimal physical and mechanical properties of a new developed alloy. In the analysed alloys a structure of solid solution and fragile phase  (Mg17Al12) occurred mainly on grain borders as well as eutectic and AlMnFe, Mg2Si phase. The investigation is carried out to testy the influence of the chemical composition and precipitation processes on the structure and mechanical properties of the magnesium cast alloys with different chemical composition in its as cast alloys and after heat treatment.

The evolution of microstructure and mechanical properties during solution and ageing heat treatment process was studied in terms of a thixo-diecast impeller of 319s aluminium alloy. The cast alloy exhibited a microstructure consisting of primary uniformly distributed in α-Al globules and the eutectics. A series of heat treatment studies were performed to determine optimum heat treatment parameters, in order to achieve fine grain structure, fine silicon particles and optimal precipitate size and distribution. Optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were employed to study the evolution of microstructure and mechanical properties. The results demonstrate that, the full T6 heat treatments are successfully applied to thixo-diecast 319s impellers. A two-step solution heat treatment is employed to prevent porosity due to overheating. The tensile properties of thixo-diecast 319s impellers were substantially enhanced after T6 heat treatment. The plate-shaped θ′ precipitates and lath-shaped Q′ precipitates are the most effective for precipitation strengthening.

In this study, a combination of powder printing technique and two-stepped heat treatment was utilized as a mean to prepare porous high density polyethylene structure. Physical and mechanical properties of the resulting structure were then characterized by porosity measurement and monotonic tensile test. It was found that the relationship between structure and properties was strongly influenced by processing conditions including compositions, treatment times and treatment temperatures. This process could increase the properties of porous high density polyethylene significantly over the single-stepped heat treatment without destroying porous structure. Porous high density polyethylene bodies having a porosity ranging from 46-58 percents with tensile strength up to approximately 4 MPa could be successfully prepared in this study.
