Aluminum doped ZnO crystal powders have been successfully prepared by sol-gel method with low temperature (150°C) crystallization process. The AlNO3 as material dopant were varied by 0.5 wt% and 1.0 wt% relate to 5 mmol of zinc acetate dihydrate as precursor. Degradation of the methylene blue (MB) was used to evaluate the photocatalytic property. The results showed that all ZnO samples have spherical morphology with hexagonal wurtzite crystal structures. The ZnO powder with 0.5 wt % of aluminum has a better photocatalytic property that related to the optical characteristics. The optimum of Al content (0.5wt%) reduces the crystallite size and give some advantages in optical characteristics that directly relate to the increments in photocatalytic behavior. The photodegradation rate of Al doped ZnO 0.5 wt% is increase almost 100% compared with ZnO undoped. The stability and reusability of 0.5 wt% Al doped ZnO as photocatalyst, is also observed by monitoring the photocatalytic behavior under 14 hours irradiation (in three recycle used)

AbstractThe present work investigates the performance of Ga-doped ZnO (GZO) and Ca-doped ZnO (CZ) nanopowders as an efficient nanomaterials for the removal of lead ions from aqueous solutions. The sol–gel method was used to synthesise the nanoparticles from zinc acetate dihydrate. To incorporate Ca and Ga in ZnO, adequate quantities of calcium chloride hexahydrate and gallium nitrate hydrate were added to ZnO, and supercritical drying conditions of ethyl alcohol were used. Different Ca and Ga concentrations (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 at.%) were used to synthesise CZ and GZO. The structural and morphological properties of the as-prepared nanoparticles were determined using X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Batch-mode experiments were used to remove lead from aqueous solution and to determine the adsorption equilibrium isotherms of lead ions using ZnO doped by 3 at.% of weight of Ca (CZ3) and Ga (GZO3). The effects of temperature, contact time, and pH on the removal of lead ions from aqueous solution by CZ3 and GZO3 were studied.

Mullite whisker was prepared at low temperature via non-hydrolytic sol-gel (NHSG) process combined with molten salt method. The influence of heat treatment temperature was studied on the morphology and the microstructure of whisker, and its growth mechanism was also described. The results show that the mullite whisker appears at the lowest temperature of 750 °C, and optimized mullite whisker can be prepared at 850 °C with the growth direction of [00, whose diameter is in the range of 170~300 nm with the aspect ratio of >30.

Pure TiO2 , Ti 0.75 Fe0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Ni0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Co0.25 O2 nanocrystals were prepared by low temperature sol-gel method. The samples were characterized by using transmission electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer to study the effect of transition metal ions on the photocatalytic properties of TiO2 nanocrystals. The results show that the pure TiO2 and Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Ni0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Co0.25 O2 nanocrystals were granular and the size of which is 3.5, 2.9, 3.6, 3.9 nm, respectively. The titania anatase phases appear in the pure TiO2 , the Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Ni0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Co0.25 O2. The absorption edge of Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2occur red shift comparing with that of pure TiO2 and the absorption edge of Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2and Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2occur blue shift comparing with that of pure TiO2. The photocatalytic properties of pure TiO2, Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2nanocrystals synthesized at low temperature by sol-gel method were investigated by degrading the methyl orange solution under ultraviolet irradiation. The degradation rate of Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2is the highest (60%) and that of Ti0.75Co0.25O2 (10%) is the lowest among these catalysts after degradation for 120min.The result shows that the photocatalytic property ofTi0.75 Fe0.25 O2nanocrystals synthesized at low temperature is obviously better than that of pure TiO2 and Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2.

In the paper, tetranbutyl titanate was loaded on granular active carbon using sol-gel dip-coating technique to form anatase nano-TiO2 photocatalyst with an average diameter of 16nm doped with N, Fe, Zn ions. The morphology and crystal structure were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and UV–Vis spectrophotometer, respectively. The results show that the prepared photocatalyst demonstrates outstanding photodegradation efficiency and light response zone has transferred from ultraviolet light zone to UV-visible zone. Moreover, considering methylene blue (MB) as target degradation pollutant, under visible light irradiation, the photodegradation rate reached beyond 100% after 1h.
