In the paper, tetranbutyl titanate was loaded on granular active carbon using sol-gel dip-coating technique to form anatase nano-TiO2 photocatalyst with an average diameter of 16nm doped with N, Fe, Zn ions. The morphology and crystal structure were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and UV–Vis spectrophotometer, respectively. The results show that the prepared photocatalyst demonstrates outstanding photodegradation efficiency and light response zone has transferred from ultraviolet light zone to UV-visible zone. Moreover, considering methylene blue (MB) as target degradation pollutant, under visible light irradiation, the photodegradation rate reached beyond 100% after 1h.

In this study we demonstrate, that sol–gel route is suitable to quicker obtain calcium hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2, CHAp) coatings on crystalline Si substrate by modified dip-coating technique. The substrate was dip-coated by precursor and dried for 10 minutes at 200 °C with following cooling using the heating block for 110 min and annealing at 650 °C. Ethylendiamintetraacetic acid and 1,2-ethandiol, and triethanolamine and polyvinyl alcohol were used as complexing agents and as gel network forming agents, respectively. The obtained coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), FTIR spectroscopy and contact angle measurements (CAM).

The paper describes two methods of syntheses of iron oxides, microstructure and morphology of magnetite nanoparticles. Nanocomposite thin films of SiO2/Fe3O4 have been prepared with sol-gel dip coating technique: dip-coating from SiO2/Fe3O4 sol and encapsulation magnetite between two SiO2 layers. Structural and morphological characteristics of iron oxides particles and prepared film were analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction, SEM, FTIR, DTA, AFM. AFM topography of surface and measurements of roughness has shown that using iron oxide encapsulation between two SiO2 layers to provide the even distribution of iron oxide, results as high quality films with low Rq values 1.5 2.7 nm.

The NiO thin films were prepared from NiCl 2 · 6 H 2 O precursor by using sol–gel route. The films were deposited on a glass substrate using dip-coating technique. The optical and structural properties of the NiO thin films were investigated with respect to dipping rate, number of layers, and annealing temperature. The microstructure of NiO thin films and powder were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Various diffraction peaks of NiO powder were observed in the XRD pattern. The morphology of the films was studied by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The optical characteristics of the samples were determined by using UV–visible spectrophotometer. The results show that the NiO thin films are transparent in the visible range. Optical constants (refractive index, extinction coefficient…) were changed by varying dipping rate, number of layers, and annealing temperature.

Multilayered thin films of aluminum-doped ZnO (Al:ZnO) have been deposited by the sol-gel dip coating technique. Experimental results indicated that the thermal annealing temperature affected the crystallinity of the Al:ZnO films. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that thin films were preferentially orientated along the c-axis plane. The preferred orientation along (0 0 2) plane becomes more pronounced as the thermal annealing being increased. The film thickness ranges between 180 and 690 nm. In our experiments, the most optimum condition of Al:ZnO annealing temperature was both 500 oC.

Thin films of Al 2 O 3 were prepared by the sol–gel process. Dip-coating technique was used for deposition of the Al 2 O 3 thin films onto glass substrates. Optical and structural properties of the films were investigated with respect to the annealing temperature (100–500°C). The structure of these films was determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was performed for the analysis of surface morphology. For determination of the optical constants of Al 2 O 3 thin films, UV-Visible spectrophotometry measurements were carried out. Annealing temperature affects the structural and optical properties of the Al 2 O 3 thin films. The refractive index and extinction coefficient of the films at 550 nm wavelength increase from 1.56 to 1.66, and from 3.41 × 10-5 to 5.54 × 10-5, respectively while optical band gap and thickness of the films decrease from 4.15 eV to 4.11 eV, and 360 nm to 260 nm, respectively, by increasing annealing temperature from 100°C to 500°C.

ABSTRACTBaTiO. thin films deposited on pyrex supportsby dip-coating technique and powders have been prepared by the sol-gel route from sols containing a mixture of tetraisopropyl orthotitanate, iso propanol, barium acetate and glacial acetic acid. The thickness of the films is proportional to the first power of the withdrawal speed. Gelled sols have been dried hypercritically and by natural evaporation. Films and powders have been characterized by X-ray diffraction during their heat treatment. Tetragonal BaTiO structure is observed for T ≥ 600°C.

Uniform and highly adherent thin films of TiO2and Nd-TiO2were deposited on high silica fiber by sol-gel dip coating method in this study. The surface morphology and properties of synthesized composites films were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and XPS. The photocatalytic reactivity studies of TiO2and Nd-TiO2films were evaluated by photodegradation of the methyl orange (MO) under ultraviolet irradiation. The results shown that neodymium doped TiO2films have higher photodegradation efficiency than that pure TiO2films. The photocatalyst on high silica fiber have a higher photocatalytic activity compare to the glass due to it is light-guide fiber.

The synthesis of nanostructured films of 20 mol% Y2O3 stabilized ZrO2 on corundum (Al2O3) substrates was performed from different sols using dip-coating technique. All obtained samples were repeatedly annealed at 800 °C temperature after each dipping procedure and fully characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. XRD data exhibited that at 800 °C temperature nano-sized Y0.2Zr0.8O2 thin films with cubic (Fm-3m) crystal structure have been formed. The morphological features of obtained coatings were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The surface tension and hydrophility of the synthesized films were determined by contact angle measurements (CAM).http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.ms.17.2.491

ABSTRACTCorrosion resistant Sol-Gel ZrO2, coatings deposited by dip coating technique on 316 L stainless steel sheets have been fabricated utilizing sonocatalysed precursors sols prepared from zirconium alkoxide Zr(OC3H7)4, isopropanol, glacial acetic acid and water. Their composition varied between 0,025 to 0,9 mol/1 ZrO2. The coatings have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, IR optical reflection, ellipsometry and scanning electron microscopy. When densified under a slow heat treatment thin coatings exhibit outstanding corrosion resistance as no weight change has been observed after 24 h chemical attack in H2SO4 aqueous solution at 81°C and 10 h oxidation treatment in air at 800°C. Thick films as well as films densified under rapid heat treatments tend to crack and are less corrosion resistant.

In this study, an aqueous sol-gel synthesis method and subsequent dip-coating technique were applied for the preparation of yttrium iron garnet (YIG), yttrium iron perovskite (YIP), and terbium iron perovskite (TIP) bulk and thin films. The monophasic highly crystalline different iron ferrite powders have been synthesized using this simple aqueous sol-gel process displaying the suitability of the method. In the next step, the same sol-gel solution was used for the fabrication of coatings on monocrystalline silicon (100) using a dip-coating procedure. This resulted, likely due to substrate surface influence, in all coatings having mixed phases of both garnet and perovskite. Thermogravimetric (TG) analysis of the precursor gels was carried out. All the samples were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis. The coatings were also investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Magnetic measurements were also carried out.
