The effects of coarse-grained ring on the mechanical properties and cutting performance of 2011 aluminum alloy extruded bars were studied by metallographic microscope, scanning electron microscope, tensile testing machine and high-speed lathe. The results show that the microstructure of aluminum alloy extruded bar was composed of α-Al phase, Al7Cu2Fe phase, CuAl2 phase and SnBi eutectic phase. There was a coarse-grained ring in the aluminum alloy extruded bar. The coarse-grained ring reduced the mechanical properties and cutting performance of the aluminum alloy extruded bar. The aluminum alloy extruded bar with a diameter of 30 mm had a coarse-grained ring depth of 9 mm and lower mechanical properties, whose the tensile strength was 287.9 MPa, the elongation was 17%, the cutting performance was poor and the chips were long. The aluminum alloy extruded bar with a diameter of 40 mm had a coarse-grained ring depth of 1 mm, higher mechanical properties and better cutting performance, whose the tensile strength was 394.5 MPa, the elongation was 23.5%, the chips were fine and uniform.

The effect of Er on microstructure and mechanical properties of the 5052 aluminum alloy with a big width-to-thickness ratio was investigated by a metallurgical microscope, scanning electron microscope and tensile testing machine. The results showed that the precipitates were slightly refined after Er addition and Al3Fe was transformed into Al6Fe and AlEr with/without a small amount of Fe or Si. The effect of Er on grain refinement was related to its content. When Er content was lower or higher than 0.4%, the grain would coarsen. Homogenization could refine the grain by controlling Er content and distribution in the Al matrix. Long time homogenization at high temperature would significantly reduce the strength of the 5052 aluminum alloy and 5052 aluminum alloys with low Er content, but help to improve the plasticity of those with high Er content. The ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and elongation of the as-cast 5052 aluminum alloy were 197 MPa, 117 MPa and 22.5% respectively. The strength was the highest, when Er content was 0.4 wt. % and the elongation was the best at 0.1 wt. % Er content.

The effects of La and Ce mixed rare earth on the microstructure and properties of Al-0.75Mg-0.6Si alloy were studied by optical microscopy, digital eddy current conductive instrument and tensile testing machine. Results showed that the addition of La and Ce mixed rare earth had a positive effect on the grain refinement of Al-0.75Mg-0.6Si alloy, which is beneficial to improve the electrical conductivity and strength. With increasing the additive amount of La and Ce mixed rare earth, the electrical conductivity, tensile strength and elongation of Al-0.75Mg-0.6Si alloy gradually increased. When the additive amount of La and Ce mixed rare earth increased to 0.5%, the electrical conductivity of Al-0.75Mg-0.6Si alloy was 55.7% IACS, the tensile strength and elongation of Al-0.75Mg-0.6Si alloy were 236 MPa and 16.7%, respectively. The electrical conductivity increased by 5.7%, tensile strength and elongation increased by 11.3% and 15.2% compared with that of Al-0.75Mg-0.6Si alloy without adding the La and Ce mixed rare earth.

The article contains the analysis of thermoplastics used in prototyping machine parts. We used several types of experimental samples with different filling percentages. The equipment on which the experimental studies were carried out is shown. During the experiment, a specialized tensile testing machine was used. The experimental samples were installed in the developed centering device. Normal conditions were observed during the tests. The results of an experimental tensile study of PLA-plastic specimens are presented. The typical stress-strain diagram of an experimental sample is described, which describes the dependence of stress on relative deformation. An equation of the linear dependence of the tensile strength on the percentage of filament filling has been compiled, which makes it possible to determine the tensile strength of the product at any percentage of the filling of the plastic filament. The assessment is adequately verified by Fisher's criterion. Recommendations for filament filling in prototyping machine parts are given.

The influence of Al-10RE addition, holding time and holding temperature on the microstructures and mechanical properties of ZL203 aluminum alloy has been studied respectively through using the optical microscope and the universal mechanical testing machine. The experimental results lead to the following conclusions. When Al-10RE addition is 1.0%-1.5%, the holding time is 15 minutes and the holding temperature is 730°C-750°C, the microstructure of Zl203 is perfect. With the increase of Al-10RE addition, the mechanical properties including tensile strength, elongation rate and hardness gradually increase. When the Al-10RE addition is 1.0%-1.5%, the mechanical properties reaches maximum. When the Al-10RE addition is above 1.5%, the mechanical properties decrease with the increase of Al-10RE addition.

This study successfully synthesized fluorinated silicon-containing waterborne polyurethanes (FSWPUs) by using polycaprolactone (PCL) diol, 2,2,3,3-Tetrafluoro-1,4-butanediol, and [3-(2-Aminoethylamino)propyl] trimethoxysilane (AEAPTES ). The FSWPU’s particle size was examined using dynamic light scattering. After the FSWPUs were processed into a dry film, their molecular weight and basic properties were analyzed using gel permeation chromatography (GPC), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Additionally, the thermal stability of the FSWPUs was inspected by thermogravimetric analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis. The tensile strength and elongation at the break of the FSWPUs before and after hydrolysis were also analyzed, using a tensile testing machine. Subsequently, FSWPU emulsions were cast between the tiles, and hydrophilicity, hydrophobicity, and surface tension were then measured on a contact-angle measurement instrument. The tensile testing machine was again employed to test the sheer strength of the FSWPUs between the tiles, and a tape test was conducted to analyze their adhesion to the tiles. The results revealed that AEAPTES functional groups can reinforce the thermal stability, tensile strength, and water resistance of FSWPUs. Moreover, the AEAPTES functional groups increased the adhesion of FSWPUs to the tiles and reduced the surface energy of the tiles.

In this study, 5083 aluminum alloy plates with a thickness of 3mm are friction stir welded and the microstructure and mechanical properties of the joints were characterized. In particular, tensile behavior of the joints is examined at 77K. It is found that defect-free joints can be obtained under a tool rotational rate of 800rpm and a welding speed of 60mm/min. The friction stirring welds exhibit finer microstructure and higher hardness than that of the base material due to the grain refinement. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and elongation of the joints measured at 298K are 316MPa and 21.3%, which are nearly equal to those of the base material. With the tensile test temperature decreasing to 77K, UTS and elongation of both the base material and joints increase. Comparing with tensile testing at 298K, dimples on the fracture surface of the samples tested at 77K are more uniform in distribution. The improvement of the mechanical properties of specimens at low temperature is related to the inactivation of planar slip and the strengthening of strain hardening.

Abstract The effects of different cooling rates ( 0.05℃/s, 0.1℃/s, and 0.2℃/s ) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 1000 MPa grade automobile steel for cold forming after two-phase annealing were studied. The microstructure of the experimental steel was observed by SEM and TEM, and its mechanical properties were tested by a universal tensile testing machine. The results showed that by increasing the cooling rate of two-phase annealing, more massive retained austenite, more uniform and fine ferrite, better elongation and higher ultimate tensile strength of steel can be obtained, so as to obtain better production of tensile strength and total elongation ( product of tensile strength and elongation, PSE ). The final result shows that after the test steel is quenched at 800℃ + 10 minutes and annealed in the two-phase region at 690℃ + 10 minutes, the faster the cooling rate, the better the mechanical properties. The mechanical properties of the steel plate are the best when the cooling rate reaches 0.2℃/s, and PSE can reach 27.44 GPa·%.
