This paper presents magnetic properties of manganese substituted barium hexaferrite BaFe12-xMnxO19 single crystals. Crystals of BaFe12–xMnxO19 with x up to 1.5 and sizes up to 8 mm were observed. The influence of Fe substitution by Mn on the magnetic properties was investigated. For the BaFe10.5Mn1.5O19 single crystal samples saturation magnetization reduced from 72 to 63.5 emu/g at room temperature, and Curie temperature decreased from 455 to 380 °C.

AbstractLiTaO3 single crystals have been implanted with 100 keV oxygen ions at room temperature with doses of 1×1014 /cm2,6xl014/cm2,1.2x1015/cm2, 6xl015/cm2, and 2xl016/cm2. Annealing temperatures ranged from 550 °C to 1075 °C. RBS-channeling and TEM were used for characterization. For partially damaged samples, complete recovery of the crystalline structure was achieved after annealing at 550 °C, which is below the Curie temperature. For totally amorphized samples, thermal annealing induced multidomain growth. These domains extend beyond the original amorphous/crystal interface deep into bulk (1 – 1.5 μm ).

A comparative analysis of the magnetic properties of RFe11Ti and RFe9Ti single crystals (R=Ho,Er) with ThMn12 structure was carried out. It is shown that the decrease of iron content causes a 10% decrease in the saturation magnetization and a reduction by 10-15K in the Curie temperature. Besides, field induced spin reorientation appears at about 60 kOe in RFe9Ti, while in HoFe9Ti the First Order Magnetization Process transition field increases by 10 kOe with respect to the corresponding RFe11Ti compound.

NiZn-ferrite thin films were deposited onto silicon and glass substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering at room temperature. The effects of the relative oxygen flow ratio on the structure and magnetic properties of the thin films were investigated. The study results reveal that the films deposited under higher relative oxygen flow ratio show a better crystallinity. Static magnetic measurement results indicated that the saturation magnetization of the films was greatly affected by the crystallinity, grain dimension, and cation distribution in the NiZn-ferrite films. The NiZn-ferrite thin films with a maximum saturation magnetization of 151 emucm-3, which is about 40% of the bulk NiZn ferrite, was obtained under relative oxygen flow ratio of 60%.

We report on the synthesis and physical properties of cm-sized CoGeO3 single crystals grown in a high pressure mirror furnace at pressures of 80 bar. Direction dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements on our single crystals reveal highly anisotropic magnetic properties that we attribute to the impact of strong single ion anisotropy appearing in this system with TN∼33.5 K. Furthermore, we observe effective magnetic moments that are exceeding the spin only values of the Co ions, which reveals the presence of sizable orbital moments in CoGeO3.

We report the magnetic properties of EuxCa1-xB6 single crystals (0.756x1) studied in the wide range of temperatures (1.8-300 K) and magnetic fields (up to 50 kOe). It was found that low field magnetic susceptibility χ (T) follows the Curie-Weiss law χ~(T-Θp)-1 at high temperatures for all the concentrations studied. The effective magnetic moment of the Eu2+ ion estimated from the data diminishes from the free ion value μeff7.93μB (μB - Bohr magneton) for x=1 to μeff7.3μB for x=0.756. A universal behavior of magnetic susceptibility χ~(T-Θ)-α (α=1.5) is detected close to the Curie temperature TC in the paramagnetic state at both metallic (x>xC~0.8) and dielectric (xC.

Langasite (La3Ga5SiO14: denoted by LGS) single crystal is one of the lead free piezoelectric materials with high piezoelectricity that is maintained up to its melting point (1470°C). Although LGS single crystals have usually been grown by Czochralski (CZ) method in oxygen contained atmosphere to prevent evaporation of Ga, they were grown by the vertical Bridgman (VB) method in Ar atmosphere without oxygen, and their properties were evaluated in this work. Transparent and colorless LGS single crystals were successfully obtained without Ga evaporation by the VB method in Ar atmosphere, and their resistivity at room temperature was much higher than that grown by conventional CZ method. Piezoelectric constant d11 of the crystal grown by the VB method was 6 x 10-12 C/N, which was close to that of the crystal grown by CZ method. The colorless transparent LGS single crystal turned to orange and its resistivity decreased by annealing in air. Since an orange-colored transparent LGS single crystal has been grown by conventional CZ method, this indicates that color change and the resistivity decrease of LGS crystal is caused by extra interstitial oxygen atoms in the crystal.

Magnetic properties of Co, Ni and Zn substituted barium hexaferrite (BaM) samples prepared by solid state ceramic method were studied. Saturation magnetisation were found higher for Zn-substituted BaM, whereas, coercivity is higher for Co2+ and Ni2+ ion substituted samples. Anisotropy field for all substituted samples was calculated by the law of approaching saturation. Remanence, squareness and thermomagnetic plot suggest Zn2+ ions restricts the magnetic interaction of various sites in BaM.

Ni54Mn21-xFexGa25(x=0,1,3,5,7,9)polycrystalline alloys were prepared by the technique of directional solidification and the effect of substituting Fe for Mn on the martensitic transformation and mechanical properties of the alloys was analyzed. It was found that the Curie temperature increased with increasing substitution while the martensitic transformation temperature decreased. The Fe-doped Ni54Mn21Ga25 alloys exhibit excellent magnetic properties at room temperature; the typical Ni54Mn20Fe1Ga25 alloy shows a large magnetic-induced-strain of -1040 ppm at a magnetic field of 4000 Oe.

In this work, undoped, N-doped, WO3-loaded undoped, and WO3-loaded with N-doped TiO2 rutile single-crystal wafers were fabricated by direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering. N-doping into TiO2 and WO3 loading onto TiO2 surface were used to increase and decrease oxygen vacancies. Various measurements were conducted to analyze the structural and magnetic properties of the samples. X-ray diffraction results showed that the N-doping and WO3 loading did not change the phase of all samples. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results revealed that W element loaded onto rutile single-crystal wafers existed in the form of WO3. UV-Vis spectrometer results showed that the absorption edge of WO3-loaded undoped and WO3-loaded with N-doped TiO2 rutile single-crystal wafers had red shift, resulting in a slight decrease in the corresponding band gap. Photoluminescence spectra indicated that oxygen vacancies existed in all samples due to the postannealing atmosphere, and oxygen vacancies density increased with N-doping, while decreasing with WO3 loading onto TiO2 surface. The magnetic properties of the samples were investigated, and the saturation magnetization values were in the order N-doped > WO3-loaded with N-doped > undoped > WO3-loaded undoped rutile single-crystal wafers, which was the same order as the oxygen vacancy densities of these samples. N-doping improved the saturation magnetization values, while WO3-loaded decreased the saturation magnetization values. This paper reveals that the magnetic properties of WO3-loaded with N-doped rutile single-crystal wafers originate from oxygen vacancies.

Nitriding thermochemical treatment under suitable parameters is used to nano-crystallize Fe73.5Cu1Nb3Si13.5B9 ribbon. This new kind of treatment leads to finer nano-structure and modifies the structural parameters of the α-Fe(Si) phase, obtained during the treatment. The magnetic properties are also improved; specific magnetization at room temperature and Curie temperature of the crystalline phase increase, and the magnetostriction constant becomes smaller. The nitrogenation seems to offer a new way to obtain nanostructured ribbons. PACS No.: 75.70
