Monel K-500 is a Nickel based super alloy which have superlative properties such as high strength, resistance to corrosion, retention of mechanical properties at service temperature and structural stability. It finds wide application in aerospace application, nuclear reactor, gas turbines, submarines, combustion engine exhaust valve, petro chemical components, heat exchanger, etc. However, during machining of super alloys, difficulties are there due to its low thermal conductivity and work hardening effect. Challenges in conventional machining can be minimized by using suitable machining as well as process parameters. Among the different machining processes, not much work has been initiated on drilling of above super alloys. Normally, drilled holes are used in screws, bolts, shafts, steam pipes, fitting of furniture and other equipments. By considering the applications and difficulties in machining of super alloys, drilling experiment is selected on Monel K-500. Experiments were conducted as per Taguchi’s L9 orthogonal array using process parameters such as different drill tool material, drilling speed, feed and cutting fluids and Surface roughness and MRR values were measured as output responses. Effect of selected process parameters on the above machinability responses were analyzed. Optimum process parameters were identified to improve the machinability of Monel K-500.

Hardened steels have numerous applications in the construction of molds and dies due, in particular, to their outstanding thermo-mechanical characteristics, such as wear resistance and high stiffness, but especially dimensional stability at high temperatures. Machined surfaces are conditioned to have important tribological characteristics. Thus, a high quality of machined surfaces is achieved by milling processes with high cutting speeds. These types of processes even manage to replace grinding or electro-erosion machining processes with a solid electrode. The paper presents a review of experimental studies in recent years from industry and scientific research. Issues are outlined which justify the utility of machining hard metals by machining processes, with a focus on machining by milling processes. Starting from input parameters, such as technological parameters, blank material, cutting tool material and machining environment, their influence is analysed on output parameters, such as chip morphology, cutting tool wear and surface integrity.

AbstractSelf-optimizing process planning is an essential approach for finding optimum process parameters and reducing ramp-up times in machining processes. For this purpose, polishing is presented as an application example. In conventional polishing processes, the process parameters are selected according to the operator’s expertise in order to achieve a high-quality surface in the final production step. By implementing machine learning (ML) models in process planning, a correlation between process parameter and measured surface quality is generated. The application of this knowledge automates the selection of optimal process parameters in computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and enables a continuous adaptation of the NC-code to changing process conditions. Applying the presented ML-model, the prediction accuracy of 83% will adapt the process parameters to achieve the target roughness of 0.2 μm. The sample efficiency is shown by the decrease in root mean square error from 0.1–0.28 to 0.02–0.07 μm with additional polishing iterations.

The presence in operation of many prototypes of UAVs with propeller propellers, the use of such devices at relatively low altitudes and flight speeds makes the problem of noise reduction from UAVs urgent both from the point of view of acoustic imperceptibility and ecology. The aim of the work is to determine a set of methods that help to reduce the visibility of UAVs in the acoustic range. It is shown that the main source of noise from the UAV on the ground is the power plant, which includes the engine and the propeller. The parameters of the power plants influencing the processes that determine the acoustic signature of the UAV were investigated. A comprehensive analysis of the factors affecting visibility was carried out. The power plants include two-stroke and four-stroke engines, internal combustion and two-blade propellers. The use of silencers on the exhaust of the internal combustion engine was considered. The spectral characteristics of the acoustic fields of the propeller-driven power plants for the operating sample of the UAV "Eco" were obtained. The measurements were carried out in one-third octave and 1/48 octave frequency bands under static conditions. The venue is the KhAI airfield. Note that the propellers that were part of the power plants operated at Reynolds numbers (Re0,75<2*105), which can significantly affect its aerodynamic and acoustic characteristics. It is shown that when choosing a UAV control system, one should take into account the fact that two-stroke piston engines are the dominant source in the noise of propeller-driven control systems in the absence of a hood and mufflers in the intake and exhaust tracts. The use of a four-stroke internal combustion engine significantly reduces the noise of the control system. In the general case, the position of the boundaries of the zone of acoustic visibility of a UAV at the location of the observer is determined by the ratio between the intensity of acoustic radiation perceived by the observer from the UAV and the intensity of sound corresponding to the natural acoustic background and depends on the degree of manifestation of acoustic effects accompanying the propagation of sound in a turbulent atmosphere - the refraction of sound waves. Absorption and dissipation of acoustic energy. The calculation and comparison of the UAV detection range was carried out taking into account the existing natural maskers. The results of experimental studies are presented that allow assessing the degree of acoustic signature of the UAV. A set of measures aimed at reducing the intensity of the acoustic signature of the UAV in various regions of the radiation spectrum has been determined.

Gas from the gasification of pellets made from renewable sources of energy or from lower-quality fuels often contains a number of pollutants. This may cause technical difficulties during the gas use in internal combustion gas engines used for energy and heat cogeneration. Therefore, an adequate system of gas cleaning must be selected. In line with such requirements, this paper focuses on the characterization and comparison of gases produced from different types of biomass during gasification. The biomass tested was wood, straw, and hay pellets. The paper gives a detailed description and evaluation of the measurements from a fix-bed gasifier for the properties of the produced gases, raw fuels, tar composition, and its particle content before and after the cleaning process. The results of elemental composition, net calorific value, moisture, and ash content show that the cleaned gases are suitable for internal combustion engine-based cogeneration systems, but unsuitable for gas turbines, where a different cleaning technology would be needed.

This paper deals with the development of low carbon NbTiB micro-alloyed high strength low alloy steel for heavy plates with high wall thickness. In the production of heavy plate it is remarkably difficult to achieve a combination of high strength and good low-temperature toughness. Bainitic microstructures have shown the capability to attain such requirements. To achieve a bainitic microstructure even for heavy wall products the formation of bainite can be promoted and supported by the use of small amounts of boron as a micro-alloying element. This industrial research project is based on the addition of small amounts of boron to promote the desired bainitic structure. Mill rolling trials were carried out to determine the optimum process parameters. The results of experimental mill rolling trials on 35 mm plates will be presented in this paper.

Currently, the use of fossil fuels is very high and existing nature reserves are rapidly depleted. Therefore, researchers are turning their attention to find renewable fuels that have a low impact on the environment, to replace these fossil fuels. Biogas is a low-cost alternative, sustainable, renewable fuel existing worldwide. It can be produced by decomposition of vegetation or waste products of human and animal biological activity. This process is performed by microorganisms (such as methanogens and sulfate-reducing bacteria) by anaerobic digestion. Biogas can serve as a basis for heat and electricity production used for domestic heating and cooking. It can be also used to feed internal combustion engines, gas turbines, fuel cells, or cogeneration systems. In this paper, a comprehensive literature study regarding the laminar burning velocity of biogas-containing mixtures is presented. This study aims to characterize the use of biogas as IC (internal combustion) engine fuel, and to develop efficient safety recommendations and to predict and reduce the risk of fires and accidental explosions caused by biogas.
