The post-viral acute cough (PAC) is a widespread symptom, mainly in childhood and adolescence, and is usually associated with an acute upper respiratory infection, namely the common cold. The use of cough relievers is, therefore, impressive, as documented by the market data. There are many medical devices and dietary supplements for treating PAC, which contain non-pharmacological components. Ancient people used traditional herbs to treat PAC. Thus, a well-established tradition considers natural remedies as an effective and safe way to relieve PAC. The herbal agents include polyphenols, flavonoids, saponins, glucosides, and alkaloids. Also, the European Medicine Agency has recognized the value of plant extracts and other natural substances to treat PAC. Nevertheless, a few studies investigated the role of non-pharmacologic remedies for PAC. There is some evidence for honey, glycerol, Althea officinalis, Drosera rotundifolia, Grindelia, Hedera helix, Pelargonium sidoides, Sambucus nigra, Thymus vulgaris, hyaluronic acid, and saline solutions. However, further rigorous studies should confirm natural products' efficacy and safety to relieve PAC.

The post-viral acute cough is the most common symptom in childhood. Consequently, the use of cough relievers is frequent. Many products for treating cough contain natural compo-nents. An ancient tradition has always established herbal medicine and honey as effective and safe means to relieve cough. Nevertheless, very few studies adequately investigated the real effectiveness and safety of natural products in treating acute cough. There is some evidence, provided by pediatric randomized controlled trials, about honey, one multicomponent product (containing Plantagolanceolata, Grindelia robusta, Helichrysum italicum, and honey), and Pelargonium sidoides. Other group of substances, including glycerol and isolated natural compounds, can help manage cough but robust evidence still lacks in children. There is an urgent need to perform rigorous studies that confirm the natural products’ efficacy and safety for relieving post-viral acute cough.Key points: Acute post-viral cough is prevalent in childhood and adolescence. There is a grow-ing interest concerning the use of natural remedies for post-viral cough. Many herbal medicines could be used satisfactorily for this issue.

Background: The increasing phenomenon resistance of bacteria to various types of antibiotics, for example MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus) became a serious problem. Over the last few decades S. aureus has become the dominant cause of endocarditis. MRSA data in Indonesia are still rarely reported. This has led to the importance of extracting natural substances that have anti-bacterial effects or that modulate immune response such as Thymus vulgaris (TV). It was hypothesized that TV can overcome MRSA infection by increasing IL-1, which is the initial cytokine in a natural immune response stimulated by the presence of S. aureus. Objective: This study was to investigate the effect of Thymus vulgaris extract on IL-1 and bacterial counts in the heart of balb-c mice infected with MRSA. Methods: There were 30 male Balb-c mice randomly divided into six groups. Group K (mice infected with MRSA without treatment),P1(mice treated with TV extract 7 days later infected with MRSA), P2(mice infected and treated with vancomycin), P3(mice infected and treated with TV+vancomycin extract), P4(mice infected and treated with amoxicillin), and P5 (mice infected and treated with TV extract+amoxicillin). IL-1 and bacterial count was assessed by ELISA and microbiological culture. Results: The result showed that there was a significant increase in IL-1 between groups (p=0.001).The median decrease in the bacterial count in the heart was 0 in almost treatment group except for P4 group which its median was 26.000 (p=0.161). The correlation between IL-1 levels and MRSA count in the heart had a weak negative correlation (r=-0.182). Conclusion: Thymus vulgaris extract was effective to  increase IL-1 levels significantly but was not proven to decrease MRSA count in the heart of balb-c mice.

Aquaculture, given its direct role in the human diet, mandates strict quality assurance and health protocols. Healthy fish require a strong immune system to defend themselves from a broad spectrum of pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites. Stimulating the immune system is a prevalent measure taken to ensure satisfactory immune response and disease control. Measures against disease outbreaks are available, such as chemoprophylaxis with vaccines, chemical therapeutics, and antibiotics. All of which, alongside their benefits, pose certain risks to the fish’s habitat and itself. Natural substances extracted from herbs or their parts (roots, leaves, etc) tend to be the most effective therapeutics with the least adverse effects. In this study, natural remedies have been discussed as a potent method of preventive care in aquaculture.

Patients with complaints of coughing make up a significant percentage of doctors in various specialties. Cough is not an independent disease, in most clinical cases it is a symptom of a respiratory disease. In acute respiratory pathology, the cough is usually short-lived and stops after the eradication of the infectious agent and the relief of inflammatory changes. It is important therapeutically to provide a reduction in the duration and relief of cough, as well as the prevention of complications. An effective symptomatic agent in the treatment of coughs of various origins, including inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract, are herbal preparations. The fairly widespread use of phytopreparations in clinical practice is due to their high safety, physiological action, availability and effectiveness. The pharmacological action of these drugs in respiratory infections is manifested by antiinflammatory, cytoprotective, antiviral and antioxidant effects, multifactorial improvement of mucociliary cleansing processes. One of these phytopreparations is a monocomponent syrup with expectorant, mucolytic and antispasmodic. The therapeutic effect of drug is explained by the presence in the composition of triterpene glycosides (saponins) from the leaves of Hedera helix . The effectiveness and safety of drug is proved by a sufficient volume of clinical studies and observations. Literature data show that Hedera helix leaf preparations significantly reduce the severity of acute respiratory infections of the upper respiratory tract.Virtually none of the patients had severe side effects. Allergic reactions were recorded in less than 0.5% of cases, with no mention of a severe allergic reaction of the anaphylaxis type. Thus, the drug of plant origin in the form of drops can be successfully used in patients with symptoms of acute respiratory diseases.

In pediatric practice, much attention is paid to natural components used for the prevention and treatment of respiratory infections. Nasal drops Tamba Tuya (Adonis LLC, Russia) contain extracts of peloid from lake Tambukan, thuja, essential oils of fir, lavender, vitamin E, dexpanthenol, dihydroquercetin, glycerol, olive oil, and peach oil. These components are effective for the prevention and treatment of rhinitis, adenoiditis, bacterial complications, as well as for prevention of adverse reactions from decongestants. We have developed a method of its application that has not only local, but also systemic effects in children. Step 1: nasal rinsing with saline solutions; step 2: instilling Tamba Tuya drops (1–2 drops in each nostril) three times a day; step 3: infriction of the drops into the skin on the temples for 2–3 minutes as aromatherapy, which ensures penetration of the drug components through the skin into the blood with a systemic effect. Minimum course duration: 2 weeks. The use of the drops from the first days of respiratory infections in 30 children aged 4 to 7 years in the experimental group (30 children were in the control group) ensured milder (76.3% compared to 60% in the control group) and shorter disease (by 2 days). The majority of participants (83.3%) from the experimental group demonstrated rapid resolution of rhinitis symptoms and lower need for decongestants. A total of 86.6% of children in the experimental group and 53.3% of controls showed an improvement in emotional and behavioral responses, including activity, adaptability, intensity, mood, and distraction. Key words: children, prevention, treatment, respiratory infections

Pancreatic cancer (PC) has a very low average survival, but its prognosis is further reduced in the case of metastatic spread. Medical therapy in these cases is the only applicable methodology in the international guidelines. During anticancer treatments, common side effects are nausea, vomiting, arthralgia, neuropathy, and alopecia as well as a myelosuppressive effect. The toxicity of various drugs not only affects the quality of life of the patient, but often its severity requires a reduction in if not the termination of drug administration. Scientific studies have shown that a combined use of chemotherapy and certain natural substances, in the form of standardized extracts, can lead to an enhancement of the action of the chemotherapy. Here, we describe 2 cases of metastatic PC. The first case concerns the integrated treatment of a patient with cancer of the pancreas tail with metastatic involvement ab initio of peripancreatic lymph nodes and liver parenchyma, with numerous secondary lesions greater than 9.5 cm. The second case concerns the integrated treatment of a patient with cancer of the pancreatic body with metastatic involvement of the liver parenchyma, with a small secondary lesion. In both cases, an integrated cancer treatment approach, combining chemotherapy with natural remedies, extracts, and hyperthermia, induced a notable remission of primary and metastatic lesions.

According to the guidelines of the German Respiratory Society, an acute cold cough without clinical indications of pneumonia or other warning signs, is the domain of self-medication. The duration – up to two weeks – is pivotal for the classification "acute". From their assessment of randomised, controlled studies, the authors concluded that Ambroxol (like several herbal medicines), shortens the duration and/or reduces the intensity of cough in acute bronchitis. Dextromethorphan is recommended by the guideline authors for a dry, troublesome cough associated with an upper respiratory infection.

Adults on the autism spectrum, despite having received intervention throughout their childhood and adolescence, continue to experience challenges with everyday social interactions, forming and maintaining relationships, and social abilities needed in work settings. This article presents a case example of a 22-year-old adult with Asperger syndrome, and highlights the issues in providing intervention for highly able young adults on the autism spectrum. A unique feature of this report is the inclusion of the client's own insights into his experiences, perspectives, and challenges with the intervention. The approaches used to address his social communication and organizational needs are outlined, and clinical implications discussed.
