Background: With the introduction of nurse-initiated and -managed antiretroviral therapy (NIMART), new challenges have emerged with regard to the prescribing and dispensing of ART by nurses. One of the key challenges is ensuring adequate pharmaceutical services at PHC clinics. Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate the adequacy of pharmaceutical services for the provision of ART in PHC clinics.Method: A quantitative descriptive study was undertaken in 20 (43%) randomly selected, eligible clinics in the uMgungundlovu district of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Results: Clinics used allocated medicine rooms for storing medication, as there were no pharmacies. Problems identified were: insufficient storage space (50%; n = 10); inadequates ecurity (40%; n = 8); poor air conditioning (20%; n = 4), and functional stock-outs of essential drugs (80%; n = 16). Professional nurses performed the tasks of managing drug supply and prescribing and dispensing medication as there were no pharmacists or pharmacist's assistants in these clinics. Conclusion: Human resource constraints necessitate professional nurses to manage drug supplies and to prescribe and dispense medication in resource-constrained PHC clinics. Clear guidelines tailored for PHC are needed to assist nurses in maintaining pharmaceutical service standards when ART services are decentralised.

Title : A comparative study on effectiveness of mucosal vibration and topical anaesthetic gel in reducing pain during administration of local anaesthetic in paediatric patients. Introduction: Anxiety related to dentistryis not uncommon in paediatric patients. Poor pain control alongside the fear and anxiety might interfere with appropriate dental management. In this study a modified mucosal vibration device is used to modify the pain perception during LA administration. Aim: To compare the effectiveness of topical anaesthetic gel and mucosal vibration during local anaestheticadministration in children in the age group8-11 years using both subjective and objective scalescales for measuring anxiety and pain. Methodology: Thirty children who required inferior alveolar nerve blockanaesthesia for routine dental procedures were included and divided equally into 3 groups Group I- control Group II- topical anaesthetic gel Group III - Mucosal vibrator Pain perception was compared, assessed and analysed during injection using Sound, Eye, Motor (SEM) scale, Doremon cartoon modified Wong Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale, MotuPatlu cartoon modified Venham scale Results: The scores of SEM scale and Doremon pain scale when subjected to statistical analysis gave a p value <0.001. Conclusion: Mucosal vibrator is an easily availablehandyand effective chair sidedevice for pain reduction during administration of local anaesthesia for paediatric patients

The objectives of this study were: firstly, to explore and describe the experiences of final year nursing students relating to how they experience their preparedness to fulfil the role of professional nurse; secondly, to explore and describe the experiences of novice professional nurses in the role of professional nurse; finally, to generate a model which will assist the final year nursing student to become a professional nurse. A theory-generative, qualitative, explorative, descriptive and contextual research design was utilized to reach the objectives of the study. Results indicated that final year nursing students experience a lack of confidence to take on the responsibilities of professional nursing. The results are displayed in table form and discussed in the article. This abstract forms part of a bigger study that addresses the professional maturity of the novice professional nurse for the practice of nursing.

The topicality of the issue under study is due to the need to research the features of forming the professional competency of would-be teachers during extracurricular activity and independent learning of students, under the condition of introducing a competency approach into the modern educational system (by the example of would-be Physical Training teachers). The article objective is to disclose the conditions of forming the professional competence of a would-be Physical Training teacher, and to elaborate a complex of extracurricular pedagogical measures which would promote the more effective forming the professional competence. The leading approach to the research of the stated problem is the competency-activity approach, serving as the practice-oriented tactics of research and showing that the main direct result of educational activity, as for our research, is forming a set of professional competencies underlying the professional competency of a teacher. The unity and integrity of these components are the dominants of a Physical Training teacher performance; hence, they are the obligatory elements of his/her professional training within the process of both curricular and extracurricular activity and independent learning. The materials of the research will be useful for the scholars studying the issues of introducing a competency approach into the Russian educational system, for the specialists engaged in organization of studies in the higher and secondary professional educational establishments, for pedagogues working at various educational establishments, for students of pedagogical universities and other persons concerned.

A new series of compounds thought to have some of the properties of major tranquillizers has recently been synthesized (Archer et al., 1962). One of these, oxypertine (Fig. 1) has been made available to us under its code name, WIN.18, 501. Pharmacological studies have shown oxypertine to have tranquillizing, anti-adrenergic and hypotensive properties (Wylie and Archer, 1962).
