ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the level of knowledge and attitude of Saudi dental students in the management of dental trauma in children. Materials and Methods: A self-administered questionnaire comprising 17 close-ended questions was used in this survey. The questions were divided into three parts including: Personal and professional profile; knowledge assessment; attitude toward dental trauma. Data of 307 respondents were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Studies) version 22.0 (IBM Corporation, Chicago, IL, USA). Results: The response rate was 76.8%. Around 40.3% of students reported attending additional courses about dental trauma with a significant difference between males (57.2%) and females (19.4%). The vast majority of students (95.7%) stressed the importance of dental trauma education. While 77% could correctly identify the media of transportation of an avulsed tooth, only 26.9% of the students knew the proper method of transportation. Regarding the knowledge of immediate replantation, only 67.5% of students responded correctly. Conclusion: The present study demonstrates an insufficient knowledge concerning dental trauma management among dental students in Saudi Arabia. This highlights the need to improve the knowledge of dental students regarding dental trauma and its management using a variety of educational methods such as problem-based learning and powering the curriculum concerning those topics of dental trauma.

ABSTRACT Aims & Objective The aim of the present study was to assess current status of knowledge and attitude among the dental students of Udaipur, India towards HIV/AIDS. Material and Methods A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted among 282 dental students of Darshan Dental College. The interview questionnaire comprised of 27close ended questions. One way ANOVA was applied by using SPSS (11.0) to compare mean level of knowledge and attitude towards HIV/AIDS. Results Shows dental students have satisfactory knowledge, but certain misconception was prevalent. It also shows that around 30.20% of the dental students held an over all negative attitude. Mean level of knowledge and attitude towards HIV/AIDS had a statistically significant difference in results among sex and academic periods. Conclusion Over all knowledge and attitude among dental students was found to be satisfactory. Most of the Dental Students, near about 69.80% have a positive attitude regarding HIV/AIDS education.

Introduction: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is considered one of the leading causes of chronic liver conditions in the world. The primary route of transmission of HCV can be by exposure of infected blood or sharing a contamination syringe during the injection of drugs. the purpose of this research to evaluate and assess the knowledge and attitude of HCV infection among dental students and interns in Saudi Arabia population specially Riyadh region. Materials and Methods: This is a cross sectional-based survey, using a questionnaire which was divided into two parts, first covering sociodemographic information of the participant regards gender, demographic variable, academic level of the participant and the University. Second part of the questionnaire was established based on the knowledge and attitude of the participant in regard to HCV. Results: A total of 218 students participated in this study. The responses of participants differed in various academic levels with a statistically significant difference in only two questions; in question 10 when they were asked whether or not they knew that a vaccine for HCV exists (p = 0.02) and question 20, if they believed that dental staff would be afraid to treat a patient if they found out his/her positive HCV status (p = 0.02). Conclusions: The present study showed that knowledge, among the dental students and interns in the Riyadh region was not adequate in regard to HCV, and their attitude toward HCV patients was inequitable.

Introduction: Tele-dentistry is the use of information and telecommunications technology for dental care, counseling, education and public awareness in the same way as remote medical. Tele-dentistry is a relatively new field that can change the dental care system. However, many dentists are unaware of the goals, benefits, and how to participate. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the knowledge and attitude of dental students regarding telemedicine. Methods:The present study is descriptive-analytic. The study population consisted of all dental students in Kerman in year 2017 and sample of 230 students selected by proportional sampling. For data collection, a complete English translation of an English-language article in the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, whose validity was confirmed by three of the leading medical informatics specialists in English, was then used to analyze the data using the software SPSS 19. Results: The findings of this study showed that there is no significant difference between the students' age, sex and term of education with their knowledge of tele-dentistry (P>0.05). Knowledge and attitude of 72% of students in tele-dentistry is very low. 40% of them said tele-dentistry would be very beneficial and more than half of them would be willing to do tele-dentistry in the future. 81% of them agreed that tele-dentistry could be a good tool for health education and oral health, and effective in educating the health of a large number of people. 75% of them felt that distance dental care saves time, and 81% of students believed that tele-dentistry was not financially feasible. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that many respondents lacked adequate knowledge and knowledge about tele-dentistry. Hence, there is a huge need for awareness among dentists to further the future of dentistry in the future. Therefore, it is suggested that the related institutions take more serious measures for awareness and education about tele-dentistry for students.

Abstract Background Nurse’s knowledge and attitude towards pain management have been reported to be inadequate throughout the world. This research was carried out to study the level of knowledge and attitude on final year nursing students regarding pain assessment & management to190 students in 2018. Method The study design was descriptive and cross-sectional .The study tool was an adopted and standardized self-administered questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using SPSS applications version 22. The respondent’s level of knowledge and attitude about pain assessment & management was determined using descriptive statics and independent T-test method. Statistical significance was maintained when P=< 0.05. Result The average mean percent score was (M=47.7±11.5SD), it was below the passing score (80%) for this research. Conclusion This research highlighted that the school of Nursing should critically review its curriculums, determine whether students were getting evidence-based and up to date information about pain assessment and management.

Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge, awareness and the attitude of dental students towards HIV/AIDS patients and to know whether knowledge has any influence on the attitude and willingness to treat HIV/AIDS patients.Methods: A self administered structured questionnaire consisting of 19 questions on knowledge, attitude and awareness about HIV/AIDS was distributed among 100 students randomly belonging to third year, final year and intern students of saveetha dental college, saveetha university, chennai. The data extracted were tabulated, statistically analyzed using SPSS Version 20.0 and results obtained.Results: The results revealed that many of the respondents demonstrated a good level of knowledge. The total mean knowledge score was 73% (good knowledge).There was a statistically significant difference of knowledge levels among the third year, final year students and the interns. The overall mean attitude score was 62.7% (negative attitude). There was no statistically significant difference of attitude among the three groups.Conclusion: Majority of dental students in our study have good level of knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS. Final year students have the highest level of knowledge and third year students have minimum level of knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS. Irrespective of the year of study, majority of the students showed a negative attitude towards HIV/AIDS patients and only a few among the interns showed a positive approach towards treating HIV patients. Hence these findings imply that there is a need to improve educational methods to more clearly address misconceptions and attitudes towards the disease.Keywords:HIV/AIDS, knowledge, attitude, dental students

Objective. To determine the level of knowledge, opinions, and preventive practices followed by dental students against Hepatitis B. The study also explored if any correlation existed between knowledge, opinion, and preventive practices score.Materials and Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted in a dental teaching institution. The subjects comprised 216 dental students. The study was conducted using a pretested, self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire was prepared to assess knowledge, opinion, and preventive practices against Hepatitis B. Kruskal-Wallis and Kendall Tau test were performed.Results. The study found that only 44.4% of the students were vaccinated with Hepatitis B vaccine. 59.3% of the students reported washing their hands after contact with patient’s body fluids. 63.9% used personal protective measures like facemask, aprons, head cap, eye shields, and so forth, while treating patients. Median knowledge, opinion, and practice scores were found to be 5.00, 3.00, and 3.00, respectively. Significant correlation was obtained between knowledge and preventive practices score (r=0.385,pvalue<0.0001).Conclusion. Effective measures need to be taken to improve preventive practices of the students to prevent them from risk of Hepatitis transmission. Mandatory vaccination against Hepatitis B needs to be implemented.

Introduction: Obstructive sleep apnea is a relatively common sleep disorder, which leads to multiple sleep arousal and hypoxemia. It also has a significant socioeconomic impact. Dentists can have a role in screening as well as treating apnea by orthodontic devices. No study has evaluated the knowledge and attitude of dental health professionals about obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in Iran. We aimed to measure knowledge and attitude among students and faculty members of Shahid Beheshti Dental School, Tehran, Iran about OSA. Materials and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey among residents and professors in oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, and oral medicine specialties and dental students. The Obstructive Sleep Apnea Knowledge and Attitude (OSAKA) questionnaire was used to obtain the information regarding knowledge and attitude. We used Chi-square, Kruskall Wallis, Mann-Whitney U test for statistical analysis. The data were analyzed by SPSS 22.0 and a p-value lower than 0.05 considered to be significant. Results: One hundred ninety-seven participants, including 43 dental students, 68 dental residents, and 64 dental professors filled the survey. Mean knowledge score among all participants was 10.69 (SD=3.133). Overall, oral medicine and oral and maxillofacial surgery professors had significantly higher correct answer ratios in the knowledge section than fifth and sixth-year dental students (p<0.001). There was no significant difference among other groups (p>0.05). About attitude, 91% of respondents reported that OSA is an important or extremely important disorder. However, only 10.2% and 16.9% felt confident about the ability to manage patients with OSA and identifying patients at risk for OSA, respectively. Conclusion: All of the participants had poor knowledge but a positive attitude towards OSA. This shows the necessity of better education about OSA.

Objective: Raising awareness on corneal donation among doctors and medical students is an important step to attain more local corneal donations. The objective of the study was to evaluate the knowledge and attitude of medical students regarding corneal donations. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 5th and final year’s medical students from August 2019 to October 2019. Non-probability convenience sampling was employed. A self-administered questionnaire that evaluated the aspects of knowledge and attitudes about corneal donation was used after informed consent was taken. SPSS 20 was used for statistical analysis. Results: The study participants had a mean score of 3.24+1.86 on the knowledge aspect. Eighty percent correctly recognized that people who die with AIDS cannot donate. The most chosen reason for eyes donation was that pledged corneas can give vision to a blind person (n=66, 47%). Religious beliefs were a major obstacle for eye donation (n=62, 44%). The internet was identified by 79 (56%) of the participants to be the most common source of information. No significant difference was found in the knowledge level of the 5th year (3.31 + 1.84) and final year (3.17 + 1.89) medical students (p=0.65). Conclusion: The study showed a low level of knowledge of students about corneal donations. While raising awareness among medical students is important to increase donation rates, media and internet are not enough for improving the student’s knowledge. Information about the basics of corneal donation is important to fill gaps in knowledge. Keywords: Knowledge, attitude, corneal donation, Medical students

BACKGROUND: Hepatitis B infection is a universal health problem. Worldwide, 5% of health-care-related injections continued unsafe. Dentist considers being at high-risk group for cross infection. Therefore, their knowledge and practice towards Hepatitis B virus (HBV) positive patients should be at an optimal level. AIM: The current study is aimed to evaluate and comparison of the knowledge, attitude and practice of Saudi dental students and interns towards HBV infection. METHODS: A self-explanatory questionnaire comprising of 16 questions was designed to assess and compare students’ knowledge, attitude and risk perception regarding hepatitis B infection among dental students across Saudi Arabia. RESULTS: The response rate was 91.6% the overall knowledge of the participants was poor. The attitude was fair, with the female show a significant difference in attitude and practice (P-value < 0.05). The overall practice was good, 78.1% was vaccinated against HBV, and 73.2% stated that they regularly use personal protection equipment. The higher levels show a good attitude and practice compared with the lower levels; the difference was significant (P value < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The overall knowledge was below average, continuous health education courses are mandatory.
