This study compared the effects of Talinum triangulare extract and Ascorbic acid on the oxidative stress caused by Di-2-ethylhexyl-phthalate (DEHP) induced undescended testis (UDT) in Wistar rats. Twenty-four pregnant rats were randomly divided into six groups of four animals each. Group 1(Control) received 2.5ml/kg corn oil for 21 days, Group 2 received 750mg/kg DEHP on gestational days (GD) 14-18, Group 3 received 200mg/kg ascorbic acid for 21 days and 750mg/kg DEHP from GD 14-18 and Group 4 received 200mg/kg Talinum triangulare extract for 21 days and 750mg/kg of DEHP from GD 14-18. The dams were delivered, the resulting pups weighed and sacrificed on postnatal day (PND) 28. Gross examination of the pups, biochemical and histological changes were recorded. Data were analyzed using One-way ANOVA. Group 2 pups had UDT and low birth weight compared to other groups. The mean testicular weight and anogenital distance (AGD) were low in Group 2 pups compared to pups in Groups 3 and 4. The mean values of all the antioxidant enzymes and serum testosterone were low in Group 2 pups compared to other groups. Histological examination of the testes of Group 2 pups revealed moderate vascular congestion within the tunica albuginea and severe atrophy of seminiferous tubules with degenerated Sertoli cells compared to normal findings in other Groups. Although the ameliorative effects of Talinum triangulare is not as potent as that of Ascorbic acid, preconceptional and continuous intake of this vegetable by pregnant women would help to prevent UDT and other associated problems.Keywords: Oxidative stress, Talinum triangulare , testosterone, Undescended testis, Ascorbic acid

Introduction and Aim: Oxidative stress plays a very important role in endosulfan-induced toxic effects on reproductive organs. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant which plays an important role in decreasing oxidative stress. The present study was aimed to investigate the protective role of vitamin C against endosulfan-induced testicular toxicity in Wistar rats. To investigate a protective effect of vitamin C against endosulfan induced toxicity on biochemical changes. Materials and Methods: Seventy male neonatal Wistar rats were divided into  seven groups. The group  I was taken as the control group, the endosulfan-treated were grouped into II (3 mg/kg body weight (BW) and group III (6 mg/kg BW), Group IV (9 mg/kg BW) and Group V (12 mg/kg BW). Group VI (9 mg/kg BW) and group VII (12 mg/kg BW) were pretreated with vitamin C (20 mg/kg BW) for 60 days. After  the experimental procedures, the testicular weight, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzyme and testosterone in plasma, LDH, steroidogenic enzymes 3?-HSD and 17?-HSD in testis were evaluated. One-way ANOVA was used to determine the statistical significance. Results: Significant improvement in the testicular weight (P<0.05) , LDH (P<0.05) levels both in plasma and testis, increase in testosterone(P<0.001) and steroidogenic enzyme levels(P<0.001) was observed in the group pretreated with vitamin C treated group when compared to the endosulfan treated group. Conclusion: Vitamin C decreases the toxic effect of endosulfan on testis. The present action might be  due to its antioxidative properties.

Objectives: To determine the effect of ovarian autotransplan-tation on decreasing FSH level in Wistarrats late menopause model.Materials and Methods: Experimental analytic research on 27 Wistar rats (Rattus novergicus) was divided into 3 groups. Group 1 (K1) or control. Group 2 (K2) performed bilateral oophorec-tomy without autotransplantation. Group 3 (K3) performed bilateral oophorectomy with autotransplantation. Measurements of FSH levels were performed on the first day, day 28 (four weeks after bilateral oophorectomy, during late menopause) and 56 day (four weeks after autotransplant). Measurement of FSH levels using ELISA. Data analysis used ANOVA and Post Hoc test.Results: The mean FSH level measured on day 56 at K1 = 63.400 ng/mL, at K2 = 78.416 ng/mL and K3 = 31.991 ng/mL. There were significant differences between K1 and K2 (p = 0,000), K1 and K3 (p = 0,000), and between K2 and K3 (p = 0,000).Conclusion: Ovarian autotransplantation decrease FSH levels in Wistar rats late menopause model.

A method is described for the measurement of intratubular hydrostatic pressure in the testis, caput epididymidis, and cauda epididymidis of the golden hamster. Pressures in these locations in normal animals ranged from 3 to 6 cmH2O. Mean pressure in the tubules of the caput was significantly higher than that in the seminiferous tubules (P smaller than 0.05) and in the proximal caudal tubules (P smaller than 0.02). There was a small, significant increase in pressure from the proximal cauda to the distal cauda (P smaller than 0.04). Two weeks after vasectomy, the mean pressure in the seminiferous tubules of 3.3 cmH2O was significantly lower (P smaller than 0.004) than the mean pressure in the normal seminiferous tubules of 4.4 cmH2O. Pressures in the cauda at 2 wk of 10-18 cmH2O were significantly greater than normal (P smaller than 0.0005) and reflected the accumulation of sperm and fluid. The high incidence of spermatic granuloma formation and/or rupture of the epididymis observed after vasectomy emphasized that there are definite limits to both distensibility and reabsorptive capacity of the epididymis in some species. Pressures at 1 mo after vasectomy were similar to those at 2 wk in animals that were still obstructed and comparable to normal in animals with granulomas and/or large epididymal leaks. Testicular weight was slightly but significantly decreased 2 wk after vasectomy. At 4 wk, there was no detectable effect of vasectomy on the weights of the testes.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of local nitroglycerin on the viable area of a prefabricated flap for vascular implant in rats, and to investigate the surgical delay procedure. METHODS: A femoral pedicle was implanted under the skin of the abdominal wall in forty Wistar rats. The animals were divided into four groups of ten: group 1 - without surgical delay procedure and local nitroglycerin; group 2 - with surgical delay procedure, but without local nitroglycerin; group 3 - without surgical delay procedure, but with local nitroglycerin; and group 4 - with simultaneous surgical delay procedure and local nitroglycerin. The percentages of the viable areas, in relation to the total flap, were calculated using AutoCAD R 14. RESULTS: The mean percentage value of the viable area was 8.9% in the group 1. 49.4% in the group 2; 8.4% in the group 3 and 1.1% in the group 4. There was significant difference between groups 1 and 2 (p=0.005), 1 and 4 (p=0.024), 2 and 3 (p=0.003), 2 and 4 (p=0.001). These results support the hypothesis that the closure of the arterial venous channels is responsible for the phenomenon of surgical delay procedure. CONCLUSION: Local nitroglycerin did not cause an increase in the prefabricated viable flap area by vascular implantation and decreased the viable flap area that underwent delay procedures.
