Two worlds exist, the seen and the unseen. Mortals or living beings populate the seen world and immortals or the living dead populate the unseen world. Through ilobolo (bride wealth) and traditional Zulu marriage, the two worlds are brought closer together by spilling an animal’s blood and anointing the wedded couple with bile. This is a religious offering, inviting the ancestors of the wedded couple to bless the union. Ilobolo, in the space of the Zulu marriage, therefore, becomes a spiritual undertaking, warranting a deep understanding of Afrocentrism, which informs the philosophical and theoretical framework of this article. Through the lens of Afrocentrism, this article reports interpretively on how the Zulu people perceive ilobolo and marriage as two concepts connecting the seen and unseen worlds. The blood and bile of an animal are perceived as symbolic purifiers or religious cement gluing together the two families with their ancestors for eternity, because even death cannot tear them apart. In trying to understand how ilobolo and Zulu marriage and all the customs associated with these two concepts connect the seen and unseen worlds, the article draws its data from the novel, Umshado (Marriage, Wedding Ceremony) and the play, Isiko Nelungelo (Culture and Rights). Both these literary books were written by Nelisiwe Zulu, whose style of writing is always seen as interrogating the essence of Zulu culture and how it is perceived in modern times or post-1994 democratic South Africa.

The emphasis of the paper is on the linguistic analysis of fragments from the novel Grička vještica written by Marija Jurić Zagorka. The paper objective is to answer how much linguistic craftsmanship defined this novel, and thus the literary work of Zagorka in general. It has been shown how language and literature in Zagorka’s writing intertwine. The language of the novel was analysed by extracting concrete fragments in which the lexics, stylistic figures and additional features of Zagorka’s style of writing were analysed. We researched how much attention was given to the language in building the plot. The arising question is how justified the position of Zagorka outside the literary canon is if her writing style does not differ significantly from the writers who are included in the canon.

When commenting on his literary work, Kader Abdolah regularly links it to his biography, his novels and short stories becoming an important part of his self-representation as a writer. One of the prominent motives in this self-representation is the story of his deaf father, which appears repeatedly in interviews as well as in his literary work, the most significant example being the novel Spijkerschrift [Cuneiform, 2000]. The purpose of this article is to investigate how the deaf father is being portrayed here and what implications this image has for the way Abdolah presents himself to his readership. The analysis is anchored in the theoretical framework provided by disability studies, focusing on literary representations of disability.

The article uses narrative techniques to explore the role of a fact in literary works. A. Adamovich’s autobiographical novel “Vixi” that serves as illustrative material has been analyzed. The purpose of the article is to examine a literary work at several textual levels: “event – naration – discourse”, “events in the novel – historical context (internal and external chronotope)”, the relationship of “author – narator – reader”. It is argued that the fact in the process of a narrative story cannot remain unchanged – a subjective interpretation of the writer expressed by narrator’s words changes it explicitly. It is emphasized that the fact can be used as a trigger for deploying the main action or changing the style of writing. For A. Adamovich self-reflection as the way of understanding reality is a means to create the world model which represents clear polarization.

In the scientific article, the role of artistic means and methods in describing the realities of time in Bakkozha Mukai's novel "Umirzaya" will be discussed. An analysis of the artistic formulation of the depicted characters was carried out, emphasizing the main function of figurative techniques on the way to the transformation of the reality of life in the novel into an artistic reality, paying special attention to the maximum disclosure of human reality. The purpose of the article is to reveal the deep philosophical meaning of the works, thoughts and images, moral intelligence, and expressive reality of the works of Kazakh artistic prose, which reveal their identity and uniqueness. The value of the writer's works is also probably due to the accuracy of the description. Having a deep understanding of the self-knowledge of literature, the writer made every effort to fit all his dignity into a work of art. Therefore, without distorting historical reality, the work was decorated with a convincing description of the oikyrgan. As for the literary theoretical orientation, the writer created a new character in this work that corresponds to the realities of the nation. B. Mukai is a writer who used artistic techniques in his works, created National characters, and became famous for his original ideological works. While the phenomena of life depicted in the work are the subject of this work, the idea of a literary work is the unity of unity in its content.

In the small and voluminous works of Turysbek Sauketayev, which represent a special type of thinking in Kazakh literature, the destinies of people and various social situations are intertwined. The writer is distinguished from others by a special style of writing and the choice of the subject of the work. The novel "I am a madman" has a high symbolic meaning. The damage caused by negativity and untruth in society to the fate of the individual, truthfulness, justice, love, etc. reveals a break in ties, contradictions between society and the individual, reflecting the devaluation of human values in the soul of the hero. The novel raises questions of humanity, the search for justice in human existence.

With the institution of compulsory military service in South Africa in 1948 the National Party government effected a tool well shaped for the construction of hegemonic masculinities. Through this, and other structures like schools and families, white children were shaped into submissive abiding citizens. Due to the brutal nature of a militarised society, gender roles become strictly defined and perpetuated. As such, white men’s time served on the border also “toughened” them up and shaped them into hegemonic copies of each other, ready to enforce patriarchal and racist ideologies. In this article, I look at how the novel Moffie by André Carl van der Merwe (2006) illustrates hegemonic white masculinity in South Africa and how it has long been strictly regulated to perpetuate the well-being of the white family as representative of the capitalist state. I discuss the novel by looking at the ways in which the narrator is marked by service in the military, which functions as a socialising agent, but as importantly by the looming threat of the application of the term “moffie” to himself, by self or others.

COVID-19 is a global crisis that requires a deep understanding of infection pathways to facilitate the development of effective treatments and vaccines. Telomere, which is regarded as a biomarker for other respiratory viral infections, might influence the demographic distribution of COVID-19 infection and fatality rates. Viral infection can induce many cellular remodeling events and stress responses, including telomere specific alterations, just as telomere shortening. In brief, this letter aims to highlight the connection between telomere shortening and susceptibility to COVID-19 infection, in addition to changes in telomeric length according to the variation of age and gender of confirmed cases with COVID-19 infection. To sum up, the correlation is revealed from the available data that connect telomere length and COVID-19 infection, demonstrated in the fact that the elderly patients and males are more susceptible to COVID-19 due to shortening in their telomere length.

AbstractFor this study we investigated all occurrences of Dutch second person pronoun subjects in a literary novel, and determined their interpretation. We found two patterns that can both be argued to be functionally related to the de-velopment of the story. First, we found a decrease in the generic use of second person, a decrease which we believe goes hand in hand with an increased distancing of oneself as a reader from the narrator/main character. Second, we found an increase in the use of the descriptive second person. The increased descriptive use of second person pronouns towards the end of the novel is very useful for the reader, because the information provided by the first person narrator himself becomes less and less reliable. Thus, the reader depends more strongly on information provided by other characters and what these characters tell the narrator about himself.

Based on the analysis on crushing process and hysteresis of material layers, a hysteretic model with symmetrical clearances is presented. The mechanical model of two-degree of freedom with bilinear hysteresis and its dynamical equations of system are proposed. In order to further investigate the dynamic characteristics of the novel vibratory cone crusher, the system is also simplified into a dynamical system of single degree of freedom with a bilinear hysteretic component together with clearances. According to some nonlinear dynamic analysis tools such as bifurcation diagram, Lyapunov exponents, Poincare section, etc., different motion patterns of the system are discussed, including periodic, periodic doubling, chaos and other characteristics. These theoretical results will provide readers with deep understanding on the regular and complex dynamical behaviors of the vibratory cone crusher due to the hysteresis with clearances.
