There is minimal research which makes the connection between mobile technology and improved student achievement. This study addressed the gap in the literature and considered the dynamic and fluid engagement mobile technology brings to the teaching and learning environment to improve student essay scores in the composition classroom. Freshman composition essay scores were collected over the course of five semesters: two semesters where the instructor did not teach with mobile application technology, and three semesters after adoption of mobile technology. There was a statistically significant difference in mean writing project scores, with the mobile technology curriculum producing higher mean scores for all three writing projects. The purpose of this study was to expand current research to consider the effects of student achievement when using mobile application technology, and to inform current pedagogical practices across all disciplines.

Mobile technology with Augmented Reality has become popular worldwide with a broad range of users, including students from all levels of education and the impact of mobile technology in classrooms has been extensively studied. This technology can be the source of motivation for LINUS students especially students with disabilities. The word usability also refers to the methods to improve the ease of use during a design process. Among the difficulties in teaching a LINUS student is the lack of visual media for understanding the subject especially in basic mathematics such as evaluating a number and calculating the number. The objective of the study was to evaluate the usability of using Augmented Reality in a mobile application among LINUS students in primary schools. This study used survey data gathered from 32 LINUS students of 3 different primary schools in Marang and Kuala Terengganu Districts. The questionnaire collected data on five construct of usability test to the LINUS students. The students used the mobile application while being guide by their teacher. They navigated all the buttons provided and answered the quiz too. The criteria of usability test consist of five constructs. The students showed a significant interest in learning numbers by actively participating in the LINUS sessions. The usability level was measured based on the five constructs. In summary, the augmented reality mobile application has a great potential to be used in teaching and learning, as in the Malaysia Education Development Plan 2013-2025 especially on the LINUS students.

The present paper investigated the factors of motivation and the role of teachers in motivating English language learners in the ESP classes of Dhofar University as well as the significance of motivation in teaching and learning through mobile application technology. Mobile phones are handy devices that are readily available with all the students in universities and colleges nowadays. Furthermore, the innovative use of mobile applications and internet technology is very common among the undergraduate students. This paper is a detailed description of some of the teaching strategies employed through mobile phones to motivate the students who have very low level of motivation. Since lack of motivation among students is a common challenge faced by most of the ELT teachers in their classrooms, practical solutions centred on mobile applications is the focus of this study. Furthermore, supplementing classroom practices with mobile application technology can promote learner autonomy and peer learning opportunities within the classroom resulting in a visible rise in the motivational graph of the whole class. This paper is also a practical account of how mobile applications can be integrated into classroom teaching without affecting the traditional syllabus of a conventional university curriculum.

The implementation of hybrid e-learning in English as A Foreign Language course could perhaps be a promising approach for teaching and learning particularly within Islamic higher education. Hence, this paper attempts to explore the initiative effort of familiarizing hybrid e-learning among Islamic college students in a speaking course. This study took the duration of five months to complete. Instructions were delivered via both face-to-face and online learning: seven times for face-to-face classroom meetings and five times for online classes. Nicenet was used as a virtual classroom. Online rubric was made available for students’ self-assessment both in their mid-term test and final test. Eighty-five pre-service teachers took part in the study. They were asked to do online task instructions either independently or collaboratively with their course mates. Questionnaire and t-test were used to analyze the data. The study indicated that hybrid e-learning is applicable in the college. It promoted motivation and collaborative work for the students. In terms of test results, there was no significant difference in hybrid e-learning approach. Self-assessment is quintessential to monitor students’ performance, particularly in getting feedback during the teaching and learning process. However, up to the present, research on students' self-assessment in Hikmah Pedagogy was limited to other subjects, such as Malay language, History, English language, and Science. Therefore, the objective of this research was to examine students’ self-assessment on Hikmah (Wisdom) pedagogy based on gender and type of schools in Islamic education subject. The research applied a survey research design that involved 328 primary school students. The results revealed no statistically significant difference in the mean score for all constructs (speaking and listening, reasoning, manners in the community of inquiry, and open-mindedness) based on gender. On the contrary, the results derived from the one-way ANOVA tests for the types of school documented a significant difference in speaking and listening reasoning and open-mindedness. In the development of technology and its advances in this industrial revolution 4.0 era, the graduates of vocational higher education institution are required to have a ready to use skill as demanded by the job market. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of utilizing mobile applications regarding vocabulary acquisition which occurred within a learning process. It was a project-based learning (PBL) performed during the supervision time of the student’ final project applying dictionary applications; The Free Dictionary and Dictionary.com. A mixed method approach was implemented where the data for the quantitative study was collected from the comparison of Vocabulary Size Test (VST) Monolingual-Version A which were carried out prior to and after the PBL. Moreover, the qualitative data was obtained from semi close-ended questionnaire, and open-structured interview. The result shows the superiority of using the mobile apps through this project-based process and at the same time the apps provide contextualized problem-solving environment to their users. HIGHLIGHTS: Even though written reference sources still have a place for students, it cannot be denied that online reference sources have many advantages in the current process of English teaching and learning. Through the project-based learning, mobile application technology can facilitate the students in the language learning process effectively and efficiently, and empower themselves to get maximum results, which is ultimately improve the output of educational institutions in the future.
