The article discusses the concept of genealogy and the cultural significance of the ancient comedy in the view of O. M. Freidenberg. For Freidenberg, the ancient comedy was a form of metaphorization of reality. The metaphor, like the symbol in Cassirer's philosophy, was interpreted by Freidenberg as the immanent product of the human spirit. Recognizing the similarity between the ideas of Cassirer and the reflection of Freidenberg, this study attempts to indicate the relationship between the literary concept in the context of Freidenberg and the theory of culture, which was the work of Cassirer. As with Cassirer, the original thinking was, in the Russian researcher's view, concrete, indivisible and figurative. The development of literature is the development of conceptual thinking, which became more and more abstract. The structure of ancient comedy was, therefore, the result of the development of human thought, the evolution of which Freidenberg saw, like Cassirer. The concept of the genealogy of comedy by Freidenberg, seen from the perspective of the Cassirer's theory of symbolic forms, is an original, consistent and logical hypothesis about the cultural significance of ancient comedy. Most of the interpretative problems it presents arise from the attempts to consider it in isolation from the cultural theory endorsed by Freidenberg, of which Cassirer was the author. The article is addressed to philosophers of culture, literary critics and historians.

The analysis of possibilities of dialogue as the prerequisite for social and religious pluralism based on Ernst Cassirer?s philosophy of symbolic forms is the main theme of this article. In the central section, the basic elements of the philosophy of symbolic forms are briefly introduced and are followed by a portrayal of the relationship between consciousness, symbolic forms and freedom. The essay then focuses on Cassirer?s general premises for his analysis of myth and also his description of the techniques of modern political myths. These elements of Cassirer?s philosophy are put forth so as to demonstrate the relevancy of his thought with regard to the issue of dialogue and pluralism, and also to indicate the applicability of his analysis concerning the presence of mythical consciousness in modern societies, including also the societies on the territory of the former Yugoslavia. The conclusion endeavors to gather the wealth of Cassirer?s analyses and to apply these in a condensed manner to an analysis of the situation in the regions indicated and also to point out directions to be taken in the search for possible solutions.

Talking about God can not be separated from the activity of human thought. Activity is the heart of metaphysics. Searching religious authenticity tends to lead to a leap in harsh encounter with other religions. This interfaith encounter harsh posed a dilemma. Why? Because on the one hand religion is the peacemaker, but on the other hand it’s has of encouraging conflict and even violence. Understanding God is not quite done only by understanding the religion dogma, but to understand God rationally it is needed. It is true that humans understand the world according to his own ego, but it is not simultaneously affirm that God is only a projection of the human mind. Humans understand things outside of himself because no awareness of it. On this side of metaphysics finds itself. Analogical approach allows humans to approach and express God metaphysically. Human clearly can not express the reality of the divine in human language, but with the human intellect is able to reflect something about the relationship with God. Analogy allows humans to enter the metaphysical discussion about God. People who are at this point should come to the understanding that God is the Same One More From My mind, The Impossible is defined, the Supreme Mystery, and infinitely far above any human thoughts.

In conclusion, the book has drawn on various perspectives and on the notion of elite-instrumentalism to elucidate the religious practices of the Roman ruling elite in the days of the Middle Republic. It has investigated the religious behaviors of republican elites based on three categories: domi, focusing on the state religion and its formal structures in the capital; militiae, with emphasis on the religious preoccupations and actions of generals in the field of military operations; and domi militiaeque, taking into account the relationship between traditional religion in Rome and external religious influences. Finding the elite-instrumentalist interpretation/model to be inadequate as a primary mode of historical explanation, the book has drawn on various theories in order to offer provisional alternatives, including the psychological theory of cognitive dissonance, as well as those gained from studies in anthropology and cultural theory.

This article considers the cultural significance of the garbage panics of the 1980s, including the voyage of the infamous Mobro 4000 “garbage barge.” The article argues that the trash at the centre of these panics is important to our understanding of both the 1980s and the present because it demanded – and still demands – that Americans see and understand it as a class of matter unmoored from temporal as well as spatial boundaries. The alarming durability of the supposedly ephemeral refuse of a culture of mass consumption invoked an “archaeological consciousness” prone to muse upon the longevity of material remains. This consciousness was expressed in various cultural and discursive arenas throughout the 1980s, revealing that durable detritus was not just a pressing public policy issue but a marker of cultural anxieties emerging out of the operations of archaeological consciousness. From concerns about contingency of the mass-consuming culture of the late twentieth-century United States to reflections on trash's own epistemological complexity, trash spoke in unexpected ways throughout the 1980s, raising important questions about the relationship between producers of culture and their audience, whose receptiveness to the urgencies of archaeological consciousness suffers from a frustrating transience as far as trash is concerned.

Drawing on Mauss's classical essay on “The Gift,” the authors examine the relationship between Western development nongovernmental organizations and their Southern counterparts. It is argued that what starts out as a seemingly free gift is transformed into a heavily conditional gift when it reaches the ultimate recipient. Despite the apparent one-way flow of goods, there are in practice symbolic forms of reciprocity that tie together the Northern donors and Southern receivers. While the complexities of this relationship do not make partnerships between North and South impossible, they certainly make them problematic: there is no such thing as a free gift.

We address the issue of the relationship between conceptual thinking and understanding of conceptual texts only from the following angle: whether or not can working towards a profound understanding of texts that describe concepts promote the use of these concepts in unusual tasks. Employing the methods of classical statistics and factor analysis, we compare the metasubject outcomes of primary education in two samples of children that differ only in one teaching factor: the experimental classes were consistently working on creating and using conceptual texts. The principle of this teaching work was to establish a situation of bilingualism when introducing new concepts: to write down new characteristics of the studied subject in the language of graphical schemes and at the same time in verbal form and to translate sentences about this subject from one language into another. As it was revealed, this specially organized work with conceptual texts results in the following: (1) an increase in the level of mastery of learnt concepts if these concepts are presented in verbal form; (2) a better understanding of information texts with unfamiliar conceptual content, that is, one of the key elements in self-learning emerges.

The article provides a textual analysis and a publication of the Old Slavonic text of the Homily on the Man Born Blind along with a Russian translation. The homily is preserved in 14th-century re-translated triodion miscellanies (the so-called новоизводные триодные Панигирики), where it is ascribed to Athanasius of Alexandria. The original Greek text of the homily is unknown. This study considers the textual peculiarities of the homily and the relationship of its Slavonic manuscripts. Moreover, the article analyzes the composition of the homily and presents a list of texts that were examined in search of the Greek original. The edition of the Slavonic text, along with the Russian translation, is placed in the Appendix.
