The purpose of this study was to find out the extent to which implementation of competence based curriculum (CBC) is adequately supported by laboratory facilities in public secondary schools in Arumeru District in Tanzania. Convergent parallel mixed method design was applied in the study. The study sampled 111 teachers, 177 students, 9 head of schools and 9 academic masters/mistresses making a total sample size of 306 respondents. Stratified-random sampling technique was used to select students and teachers whereas a purposive sampling technique was used to select heads of schools and academic masters/mistresses. Data were collected using questionnaires, interview guide, observation checklist and focus group discussion (FGD) guide. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The study established that, laboratory facilities were not adequate in the schools hence it was concluded that, the competence-based curriculum is not effectively implemented in the studied schools due to shortage of laboratory facilities. It was therefore recommended that the government in collaboration with other educational stakeholders should establish the required laboratory facilities for effective implementation of the competence- based in the schools.

It was found that only 34% of the teachers were trained while 66% were not trained for CBC implementation. The study concluded that, the implementation of CBC is rendered ineffective due to lack of teacher training. The study recommended that the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in collaboration with curriculum developers should organize training to all teachers for effective implementation of CBC.

The government of Kenya allocates between 35 to 40 percent of the total budget to education. It is essential that public funds be directed effectively and used for the purposes for which they are allocated for. This study was therefore set to establish the perceptions of stakeholders on the effect of financial mismanagement on physical facilities in public secondary schools in Gucha district. The study employed a descriptive survey design. The study population consisted of 126 headteachers, 126 heads of departments, 126 Board of governors‟ chairpersons, 126 bursars, 1011 teachers, and 10 quality assurance officers. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select 5 boarding schools, 37 day schools, 42 headteachers, 42 Bursars, 42 heads of departments, 42 BOG chairpersons, 337 teachers while purposive sampling was used to select 10 quality assurance and standards officers. Data was collected by the use of questionnaire, interviews schedule, Focus group discussions and observation forms. Data collected were analyzed using both Quantitative and qualitative methods. The study established that financial mismanagement had adversely affected physical facilities. From the study it was concluded that mismanagement had affected the quality of education negatively. Based on the findings of the study it therefore emerged the need for financial training for all stakeholders involved in financial management directly and indirectly.

This study sought to explore the influence of professional growth opportunities on the job performance of deputy principals of public secondary schools in Lugari Sub-County, Kenya. Adopting the descriptive research design, the study utilised mixed methods approach engaging both questionnaires and interview guide. The focus population for the study included 28 principals, 28 deputy principals and 420 teachers of public secondary schools within Lugari Sub- County. All the 28 principals and 28 deputy principals were purposively sampled for study whereas, 200 teachers were identified for study by simple random sampling technique. A pilot test-retest study was conducted in three public secondary schools from nearby Uasin Gishu County and a reliable Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.79 and 0.81 was obtained for the deputy principal response questionnaire and teacher response questionnaire, respectively. Supervisors and researchers from Mount Kenya University School of education were engaged to ascertain the validity of the research instruments and necessary adjustments effected on the tools before use. The questionnaires gathered quantitative data from teachers and deputy principals whilst the interview guide assembled qualitative data from the principals. The statistical Package for Social Sciences version 23.0 was used for the analysis of quantitative data yielding frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviation. Qualitative data were analysed thematically based on the objectives and presented along with the quantitative data. The findings established that schools in Lugari Sub County hardly support deputy principals for in-service training, the majority of deputy principals perceived unfairness in promotion procedures and that the position of deputy principal did not adequately prepare deputy principals for principal-ship. The study recommends that deputy principals need to be supported by the school management to collaborate and improve their requisite skills to discharge their duties effectively.

The Covid-19 outbreak is a new type of disease and is highly contagious. This new virus was previously unknown before infecting many residents of Wuhan, China. This virus is now spreading to most of the world. To prevent its spread, the government urges people to stay at home and learn online. The aimed of this study was to determine the level of stress of first-degree students in the Nursing Study Program at Stikes Karya Husada in dealing with the Covid-10 outbreak and online lectures due to the outbreak. This type of research is a descriptive study with cross sectional design. Sampling was done by purposive sampling technique to get a total sample of 70 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire in the form of google and found that most students experienced moderate stress (38.57%), some experienced severe stress (28.57%), and mild stress (32.86%). The stressors that cause the most stress are difficulty understanding online material and worry about contracting Covid-19. Pandemic conditions that are full of uncertainty need to be addressed wisely by various parties. It takes effort to reduce stress by doing a variety of fun activities in the home that can be done by students. Keywords: stress level, students, covid-19, online lectures

This study examined supervisory strategies as correlates of quality education among secondary schools in Ibadan southwest local government area of Oyo State. Simple random sampling technique was used to select thirty schools (public and private) and three hundred respondents consisting of 200 teachers from public schools, 80 teachers from private schools and 20 supervisors from Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to test the four hypotheses(P < 0.05)  Multiple Regression was used to determine the contribution of independent variables (Supervisory strategies) both jointly and individually to dependent variable (quality education).Results revealed that two of the supervisory strategies (companionable and synergistic) have positive and significant correlation  on quality education (r =0.853) and (r = 0.783) while authoritarian strategy had negative  correlation, laissez faire had no significant relationship on quality education (r = -0.522 and r = -0.200)respectively. The joint contribution of the four supervisory strategies to the prediction of quality  education in secondary schools was also significant (F (4,295) = 261.225).The paper concludes  with some recommendations to the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and the Government. Abstract The study assessed the availability of laboratory resources, teachers’ and students’ involvement in practical activities in Basic Science in junior secondary schools in Osun State Nigeria. These were with a view to ascertain the availability of laboratory resources in the teaching of Basic Science in junior secondary schools and the involvement of teachers and students to practical activities in the state. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The population for the study consisted of all Basic Science teachers, facilities for teaching Basic Science and all junior secondary school II students in Osun State. Ten schools were selected from each senatorial district through simple random sampling technique, from each school, ten students from JSSII were also randomly selected through simple random sampling technique to take part in the study. Basic Science teachers found in the schools were purposively used for the study because of their discipline and numbers. The facilities for the research were also purposively selected based on a must for teacher to use in the course of their teaching. Three instruments were used for data collection. They are: Observation Checklist for Basic Science Laboratory Facilities (OCBSLF), Questionnaire for Teachers on Teachers Involvement in Practical Activities (QTTIPA) and Students’ Questionnaire on Basic Science Laboratory Facilities (SQBSLF). Data collected were analyzed through simple percentages. The results of the study showed that 14(40.0%) schools indicated that beakers, boiling tubes, conical flask and cylinder are available while 21(60.0%) schools indicated that beakers, boiling tubes, conical flask and cylinder are not available, 10(28.6%) schools indicated that flat bottom flasks are available while 25(71.4%) schools indicated they are not available, 11(31.4%) schools indicated that round bottom flasks are available while 24(68.6%) schools indicated they are not available, 8(22.9%) schools indicated that hand lenses are available while 27(77.1%) schools indicated they are not available, 7(20.0%) schools indicated that Ammeters are available while 28(80.0%) schools indicated they are not available, 9(25.7%) schools indicated that Resistance box are available while 26(74.3%) schools indicated they are not available, 3((8.57%) schools indicated that plastic mammalian models (heart, eye, ear, and skeleton) and First Aid box (fully equipped) 3((8.57%) are available while 32(91.3%) schools indicated that they not available, 1(2.86%) schools indicated that Meter Rule, Rheostats, Connecting wires, Spatula are available while 34(97.4%) schools indicated they are not available. The results of the study showed that on the average teachers did not use laboratory facilities to teach the students and students are rarely involved in practical activities in schools. The study concluded that laboratory resources are not available to teach students Basic Science in junior secondary school level.

<p class="AbstractText">This study is aimed at exploring the voices of English teachers and students of a state senior high school towards the National Exam policy and its implementation in Indonesia. Several theories of psychology and language learning were applied in this study as the theoretical framework. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The participants were chosen by purposive sampling technique. The data for this study were garnered through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) conducted to the selected twelfth-grade students and semi-structured interviews done to two English teachers. Both data were analyzed descriptively. Upon the analysis, two paramount themes prevailed: (1) the negative response towards the implementation and accuracy of National Exam (NE) policy in Indonesia; and (2) unintended impacts of NE policy on teaching and learning activity, students’ motivation, and English Language Learning and Curriculum. This study offers information for the government as the policymaker, school leaders, teachers, and researchers to understand how the NE is implemented at the school level.</p>

ABSTRACTThis study investigated the implementation of online peer feedback practice, the students’ perceptions toward online peer feedback practice, and the students’ challenges toward online peer feedback practice. The study employed a mixed-method design with SMA PGRI Blahbatuh students as the population, while the sample was 132 students. The data were collected through observing the online classes using an observation checklist, conducting a survey using a questionnaire, and conducting an interview using an interview guide through focus group discussion. The study’s findings imply several strengths and weaknesses in the online peer feedback practice. It was also revealed that the students had positive perceptions toward the online peer feedback practice. Meanwhile, the interview results revealed several contradictory results regarding the students’ challenges. The students preferred the teacher’s feedback after the practice since it would make them feel safe. The students also suggested anonymous peer feedback practice since they could give the comments honestly, with details, and specifics. Through this study, students can learn to improve their skills in communicating and collaborating with their peers. The study also provided the teacher information to create more effective and efficient online peer feedback practice.    ABSTRAKPenelitian ini didesain untuk menyelidiki penerapan praktik umpan balik rekan secara daring, persepsi siswa terhadap praktik umpan balik rekan secara daring, dan tantangan siswa terhadap praktik umpan balik rekan secara daring. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kombinasi dengan siswa SMA PGRI Blahbatuh sebagai populasi, sedangkan sampelnya hanya 132 siswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi kelas online menggunakan lembar observasi, survei menggunakan kuesioner, dan wawancara menggunakan pedoman wawancara melalui diskusi kelompok terfokus. Temuan penelitian menyiratkan bahwa ada beberapa kekuatan dan kelemahan dalam praktik umpan balik rekan secara daring. Terungkap pula bahwa siswa memiliki persepsi positif terhadap praktik umpan balik rekan secara daring. Sementara itu, hasil wawancara mengungkapkan beberapa hasil yang kontradiktif terkait tantangan siswa. Siswa lebih menyukai masukan dari guru setelah latihan karena akan membuat mereka merasa lebih aman. Para siswa juga menyarankan praktik umpan balik rekan anonim karena mereka dapat memberikan komentar dengan jujur, dengan detail, dan spesifik. Melalui penelitian ini, siswa dapat belajar meningkatkan keterampilannya dalam berkomunikasi dan berkolaborasi dengan teman sebayanya. Penelitian ini juga memberikan informasi kepada guru untuk menciptakan praktik umpan balik teman secara daring yang lebih efektif dan efisien.

The role of agriculture in the economic development of this country is still very important, besides being a fuel provider, this sector also contributes significantly to the development of workforce which is expected to have an increase in the change in the level of poverty. The Ministry of Agriculture has a vision and mission in alleviating poverty by rolling out various forms of programs to increase capital for farmers. Farmers who have developed their level of education, improved changes in the economic and political structure, began to understand to form a farmer group that had the goal of obtaining and obtaining mutual assistance included in the agricultural program of the government, such as the UPSUS Pajale Program. Farmers who are members of farmer groups will strengthen the ability of their groups to manage and channel the Pajale UPSUS Program assistance that requires improving farm safety consisting of indicators; the role of members of farmer groups, suitability of group services, collectivity, and resolution of local wisdom that still requires in its farming activities. The success of farmer groups can not be separated from social capital which is the main foundation that must be owned by farmers as group members. Mangkuprawira (2010) describes the support of social capital in farmers such as social norms, mutual trust, networking, cooperation, mutual relations, participation, and commitment that will be directly connected to the success of the UPSUS Pajale (soybean) program being rolled out by the government, and seen from three indicators namely; successful output, successful results, and successful benefits. The UPSB Pajale Program in East Lampung Regency is held from February to March 2019. The data used are primary and secondary data with the Mix-method research method. The sampling technique used was the Proportional Stratified Random Sampling with a total sample of 140 farmers who were members of a farmer group receiving the 2017 UPSUS Pajale Kedelai Program in East Lampung Regency. Data processing is done qualitatively and quantitatively. Data is arranged qualitatively using descriptive analysis, while quantitative data is processed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis, which uses the LISREL 8.80 program. The results showed the value of R2 = 0.71, which means that the second variable namely Farmer Institutional Performance and the Existence of Farmer Social Capital contributed 71 percent and was significant to the Success of the UPSUS Pajale Program in East Lampung Regency.Keywords: Farming Institution, Existence of Social Capital, and UPSUS Pajale Program

Public secondary school education is rapidly growing in Nigeria, requiring huge investments by government. To justify the level of investments and improve the quality of education in the secondary schools, there is need for proper monitoring and evaluation through inspection. This paper examines the extent to which inspectors complied with inspection principles of independence, impartiality, transparency and mutual respect in public secondary schools in Ekiti state, Nigeria. This is with the view to improving the quality of education in the state. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 147 respondents, comprising 120 teachers, 12 principals, and 15 inspectors. Data were collected using survey questionnaires complemented with interview guide. Data were analysed with the use of frequency counts, percentage and means. Results showed that 46.7% of the inspectors indicated compliance with the inspection principles of independence, 40% with impartiality and transparency, and 53.3% with mutual respect. On the average, about 47% of the inspectors indicated compliance with all the inspection principles. The study concluded that inspectors’ compliance with inspection principles is low and therefore, intensifying their compliance with inspection principles is imperative to improving the standard of education in public secondary schools.
