It is apparent that existing social conventions unofficially mandates women to refuse sexual advances even when there may be the intention to engage. The adherence to this social script is what is referred to as token resistance or scripted refusal. Some studies have explored the subject of token resistance from a number of perspectives that attempt to identify the underlying reasons why women engaging in token resistance. However, there is very little research on this subject from the Nigerian perspective. This this study sought to explore token resistance further in order to understand the cultural cogency or peculiarity of the concept in the Nigerian context. This is because based on available literature, the conceptualization of token resistance may be different. With the use of purposive sampling technique, four sexually active women and undergraduates, volunteered to participate in the study. They were interviewed to understand their unique experiences and perception about token resistance using the principles of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) It was discovered that factors like personal pride, self-control, emotional security of relationship and the gratification of increased attention were responsible for women’s rejection of sexual advances even when there was the intention to do so. The study also got a better understanding of how women culturally represent this concept in Nigeria. We highlight limitations of the study and suggest areas for further study research.

This study described the lived experiences of the English enthusiasts at the University of Cebu – Main Campus. The study used Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) through 15 BSED English Majors interviews. The analysis of data generated six themes “Actually, I am not really fond of reading books, but I’ve learned to enjoy reading love storybooks. They are very entertaining.” (Gaining Interest and Love for Reading), “The challenges that I encountered in my journey towards acquiring the love of reading are the unfamiliar words. Whenever I encountered those words, I usually pause and find their meanings.” (Dealing with Unfamiliar Words) “I addressed the challenges in positive ways. These only urge me to love reading more.” (Context and Comprehension Challenges) “I simply love reading because I can use my imagination. When I read, I feel like I’m the main character of the story.” (Attitude towards Reading) “In reading, you will experience things you haven’t experienced yet. You choose an author and a genre first before you read. In that way your interest and love of reading will be sustained but exploring is more fun.” (Personal Book Choice) “In reading, actually you discover yourself more, especially if you read different genres of books. My journey towards reading is self-discovery.” (Realizations through Reading). The study attempts to explain the different factors involved in the love of reading. These are gaining interest and love of reading, dealing with unfamiliar words, context and comprehension challenges, attitude towards reading, personal book choice, and realizations through reading. The English enthusiasts encountered some difficulties in reading various texts, passages, and other English classics. However, their enduring interest, love, and passion for reading transcend all forms of reading complexities. In contrast, some students may lack interest and motivation in reading. They tend to be superficial readers, or they just read when they are told to do so. Reading for them is dull and boring. Thus, the English enthusiasts may share their lived reading experiences with those reluctant and passive readers, and they may become more interested and motivated to read beyond the parameters of academic requirements.

Through the characters of Zhenya and Boris, the film Nelyubov (2017) explores the issue of a toxic marriage. The story's theme reflects the complexities of the characters' relationships and the resulting problems. This theme adds intrigue to the film's problem articulation, particularly how the film's conflict can be constructed. Accordingly, this study seeks to identify the actant schemes created in the Nelyubov film. This study examines the location of individuals in the film using Algirdas Julien Greimas' Actantial Model theory. Further, this article employs Mills' Discourse Analysis and Smith's Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The results indicate representations for the subject, object, helper, opposer, sender, and receiver in the Nelyubov film, allowing for the fulfillment of the three kinds of axis: the axis of desire, the axis of power, and the axis of transmission/knowledge. The film's subject is Zhenya, and the object is the happiness he seeks.

The article describes the representations of landscapes in the films by Carlos Reygadas, whose role is to evoke the transcendental film style (as understood by Paul Schrader), and to express the experiences, thoughts and action of the screen protagonists. Landscapes perform various functions in Reygadas’s films. They are not only a background for film events or emphasize the mood and aura of contemplation of film images, but also a symbolic representation of emotions and experiences of the film’s heroes, and evoke the sphere of transcendence and sacrum, important for spiritual dilemmas and searches of protagonists. The article cites and discusses all of Reygadas’s fictional films made so far, which gives us the opportunity to compare them and demonstrate their mutual inspiration, and to continue the proprietary workshop, stylistic and thematic solutions. The research method in the article is analytical description of selected landscapes that play an important role in Carlos Reygadas’ films and the interpretation of the symbols contained in them, in accordance with the phenomenological and hermeneutic perspective. Interpretative phenomenological analysis enables, as the research tool used in the article, both the description of images (landscapes) appearing in Reygadas’ films and the presentation of their symbolic meanings. The subject of interest in interpretative phenomenological analysis is the life situation of film heroes, entangled in a chaos of various events and forced to make various choices. In accordance with the attitude adopted by the director, which can be described Katarzyna Citko as the syllaptic ‘I’ (a term used in the meaning given to him by Ryszard Nycz), they are also an exemplification of the worldview and the essence of the artistic creation by the author: Carlos Reygadas himself.

The presence of the internet provides an alternative for each individual to find a life partner (mate) without having to meet face to face. This study aims to analyze the shifting of meaning  in the ta'aruf process carried out by married couples and individuals undergoing ta'aruf. This qualitative research focused on exploring the stages of interpersonal communication in ta'aruf using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. The informants of this study consisted of seven people, of which three couples were married through the ta'aruf process and one person who was undergoing the ta'aruf process in Padang. Informants were selected by the purposive sampling technique. The results of this study indicated that the stages in the classical ta'aruf process includes an introduction, confirmation, exploration, family gatherings, and setting a wedding day. This classical ta'aruf stage transforms due to the impact of communication technology. Ta'aruf can be done through friends, parents, siblings, and social media. Online ta'aruf makes a shift in the meaning of ta'aruf, where the sacredness of a ta'aruf process has been interpreted differently, although the essence stays the same. At present, the seriousness of individuals in carrying out ta'aruf is not purely due to Allah, but ta’aruf has become a lifestyle, public consumption, and even camouflage.
